so we've scored bags of goals but leaked too many, BR buys defenders of a quality that tightens our defense and next season we finish 4th, would you consider that improvement and a good job done by BR?

If that happens then yes that is an improvement and a good job done

But it needs to happen first - the right defenders need bought or the right changes to defending need to be done.

certainly think it's more to do with defensive personal than a defensive system not working, especially now Carra is for the off.

But the same people last season had one of the best defensive records in the prem ?

For me the defensive problems this season are more down to how open we are rather the players not being able to defend.

We play with two full backs pushed right up the pitch and the gaps between defence and midfield mean when we lose the ball there is acres of space for the opposition to attack.
We need one centre half who can attack a ball really well as we dont stop crosses coming into the box often enough due to the position of the full backs.
And for me we also need a centre half with pace to allow the defence to play further forward.
The centre halves for me are too deep and its probably because there is no real pace in there.
If we could sign a centre half that had pace and could attack the ball then great, if not we need two I feel.

either way a change in players is the answer because BR won't change his style and rightly so.

BR has already changed his style when going forward

His set up requires some very very good cb's which will be out of our reach - we will continue to be exposed unless he changes it a bit

i dont think it`s the system thats letting us down anymore, granted early on in the season we were getting caught on the break a lot but we seem to have ironed out those types of problems.
whats letting us down at the moment is our inability to defend crosses/set pieces/corners etc and i dont think that can be blamed on our style of play.
heading the ball is just one of the basics of defending it has nothing to do with any particular philosophy, it`s like blaming a managers tactics because a player who cant pass it five yards.

I agree with what your saying but if you have 2 centre halves that are not as aerially dominant as most then the last thing you want is crosses coming in left right and centre.
Due to the position of our full backs its very easy to get in positions where you can get crosses in against us. The Fulham goal on Sunday was another example of it.

What would easier would be having full backs being position to stop the crosses coming in - as opposed to a times being the furthest forward

You're flogging a dead horse mate !! Rafa did some excellent work and I will always like him regardless of some of his shortcomings. H & G did not help the situation but some of the disastrous purchases that Rafa was responsible for could hardly be down to them. Dossena, Keane and Aquilani cost more than £40m at a time when supporters were moaning about a lack of support from H & G and proved to be three of the worst purchases the club has ever made. Rafa's handling of Alonso was poor to say the least. Rafa had a stubborn side and it was his way or the highway. Rafa was out of top flight management for two years prior to Chelsea offering him a short term contract. If he had done a truly remarkable job at Liverpool and Inter Milan clubs would have come running. In reality the reverse was true.

BR has done a good job to date and I am at a loss to understand why some people would kick him out in favour of Rafa. We need stability and not a change of manager every five minutes.

Because its hard to look past proven quality and proven ability. BR is very much unproven and there are still just as many questions now as there was in July. Does he really have the managerial ability to take us to the places we want to go ? Going by track record so far and it's not looking massively favourable towards BR.

Next season 4th place is the minimum required - if he can't get that then it will be time for a change
