Brendan Rodgers thread (signs extended contract)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

What is going on at the club is unacceptable league finishes over the last 4 seasons

We are currently going through the worst productive period in the league than I can remember.

Because results aren't great people will be unhappy with things.

For the last 5/6 years our club has been ripped apart by two cowboys and now the club is in a pretty poor state with our current owners having no clue about the game and having someone like Ian Ayre in charge ! It doesn't bode well for the future for some.

I don't think our current management structure have the ability or experience to move us back into the top levels of the game in Europe.

Ever the Fu*king optimist!
:wwww
Rafa has done well at Chelsea because there is no doubt he is a great coach. However, when he has money to spend he goes mental, and thats why hes got Chelsea in the top 3 and won a trophy. Not one penny to spend and make do with what hes got is the key to Rafa's recent success. Ive no doubt that one day he will come back, but for now Rodgers is our manager and people should respect that and not keep going on about the return of an ex manager.
Not for 3 years at least anyway...

But you're missing a key factor - the squad.

I would equally be disappointed of our performances and league finishes if our squad had remained unchanged over that period. But it hasn't, from owners (H&G) who robbed us dry to new managers implementing different systems that require different types of players, the resulting instability was always going to result in a drop in expectation of what we would expect was a good season. I don't like the demise, but if it is to stop backing Rodgers is imperative. Removing instability is the key to returning to league finishes and trophies we expect of this club.

to be fair to FSG i think they have learnt a lot over the past 2/3 years, you hardly hear them mentioned these days but they are there when needed (like when john henry flew 2,000 miles to make a speech at the hillsborough memorial).
look at the way the club handled the latest suarez incident as well, they were far more pro-active and dealt with it in a low key and professional manner.
i think they are growing into the job.

Brendan has the team playing good attractive attacking football.
Henderson is starting to look a player, Downing is showing signs of what he's capable of.
Skrtel, Borini and Allen have not become bad players overnight and will improve next season.
We have some good young players coming through.
Brendan will add more depth in the summer and ship out those who don't fit the picture.

I'm a lot happier and more optimistic now than I was when we had the likes of Poulsen, Adam, Konchesky and Joe Cole.

Lets face it, unless Henry gets fed up and sells us to a multi billionaire, we're going to have to get used to it and back the plan.

Agreed all except for Downing who I won't quickly forgive for his first fifteen months at Anfield which were nothing short of a disgrace. I think he has improved but compared to PC he is very average. Mind you it is all about opinions and at least one poster agrees that Downing's improvement has contributed to Liverpool's success since the beginning of January. However it must be appreciated that the same poster want's BR out and Rafa in, Ayres sacked and a rich sugar daddy to take over the club and spend a fortune on superstar players together with a new stadium. Forgive me if I don't share his view of Downing !!

Summer will be very important. We must keep Luis and get at least one high quality CB together with a DM to add some strength in depth. BR has got things moving in the right direction. Now he must take the next step. Top four next season is achievable if we don't repeat this years awful start of 3 wins out of the first 14 games. I'm enthusiastic about the future but there is still a lot of work to do.

At the end of the day they will be judged on the results on the pitch as well.

Plus how we move forward in regards the stadium , how the manager gets backed.

The problem I will always have is they have a money man ( Ayre ) as someone making football choices.

This is the same guy who was involved in removing Rafa and bringing in Woy.

For Ayre I would suggest to go and find out what happened at Huddersfield.

We need someone within the management structure who knows the game - someone that can go to the owners with experience to back him up , someone BR can also go too - Segura was that man.

"BR has got things moving in the right direction." That is exactly what people should take from this season.
We have improved in our league position and our goalscoring stats are outstanding. We have better players and a better way of playing, so bring on next season...
The future looks bright, the future looks Red!

Nice to hear Brendan praise Carra after the game and mention we need to buy some players in the summer. Looking forward to seeing what and who he has shortlisted to join us, especially if Courtinho and Sturridge are examples of the level of player BR has his eye on!

Decent effort this season though BR, lets kick on from here.

Well the players BR had his eye on where more the Borini and Allen type - well known to him , players he feels comfortable with.

Coutinho etc were examples of the scouting committee being involved ( and recommended by Segura ).

Let's hope it's not players like Williams , Vorm and Sinclair on their way.

I think taking control away from BR in regards the signings will be a good thing

I'm not fussed who does the scouting or signings as long as they're of the quality of Courtinho and Sturridge. If it's the scouting committee that have the say so then good on them. BR however has to manage the players once they're at the club so let's get them in and get to work ! Hit the new season running!

Need to hit the ground running - we won't have European football to worry about so that should help us out a bit. Get the right defensive signings and tactics and would could get in amongst the top 4 early. If we aren't within touch in the first 2 months then we will struggle.

He was one of the players on the list for signings in the summer recommended to Kenny by Segura along with players like Valbuena and Diame.
