I have to disagree mate ,I said on his first tentative steps as Liverpool manager ,that if he wished to entertain the notion of playing progressive inventive
football he would have to accept some harsh decisions needed to be made ,most notably the issue of Gerrard being no longer capable of pressing the
opposition into giving the ball away ,or adapting to this concept of passing the ball in relative comfort rather than smashing a Hollywood pass that is either
too hard or too high.
It seems whilst not wishing to lay the blame squarely at the feet of the manager ,that some fans will undoubtedly blame the players ,but given this shambles came on the back of a classy performance away at Udinense and a battling display against West Ham then its surely the lack of passion coupled
with our totally unimaginative attempts at making genuine opportunities around the opponents penalty area, that should be the focal point of any debate .
Villa have ,for as long as I can remember been a bogey team capable of putting in a performance that belies their position in the table ,nothing new there, but
on Saturday albeit from including Downing (who incidentally provided our most potent threat in attack )then it was the same defence that had retained our
unbeaten record . On Saturday the players were simply clueless ,Sterling was completely out of sorts and Joe Allen had his worst game in red .
I'm still optimistic mate,I have nowhere else to go ,but I promise you as soon as we stop playing football then I may start eating from the same table as you .
