RYAN BABEL to join Hoffenheim

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Never really got going, was played out of position (if at all) in the majority of games by Benitez...could have been better managed like a few other players.  In saying that he's had opportunities to shine but hasn't delivered.

He has now been under 3 different managers.. how many more - too busy twittering, if he gave half as much time to his football.. !

I'm still perplexed as to why we didn't sell him to Brum for the 8-9 mill they were alledged to be offereing last season but I guess at the time Rafa was unlikely to see any of the proceeds. Showed a lot of promise in his first season but he never grabbed his opportunity and only really performed on the odd occasion coming off the bench when other players were tiring and games got stretched. I don't go along with the old 'he was always played out of position' line because he never once looked like a striker when he got the opportunity. Must admit I always liked the idea of seeing him play on the right hand side but we only ever saw it a couple of times. We can all see the boy has talent but he lacks the  toughness and fight that was needed. Still, it woudn't surprise me if, given the right coach at the right club he might still get somewhere near his potential.

Not that i'm his biggest fan but anyone else worried that we now have just TWO players (Jonno and Torres) who will actually run at players and take it on left in our squad now? We are desperatelky in need of a couple of players with a bit of pace and trickery in their locker. Maxi and Kuyt don't really do it for me on the flanks.

The difference between players at the higher levels is often not talent but mentality. Babel lacked it...
Hope he gets a new lease of life at Hoff...
Floyd stepped left and threw the hook that caught Hatton flush under the chin. Finally, the British champ had arrived in that mythical place of which his fans speak: Hatton Wonderland.

Think thers a player in there somewhere but we havent seen much of it during his time here unfortunately. Came here with high hopes but just never fulfilled his potential and neither him or us can wait forever so you have to cash in. They may not have been keen to sell to another Prem club because I guess they also feel theres hope for Babel yet and didnt want to be haunted by him here. Though he dissapointed you pretty much every time he was on the park somehow you still felt he was going to show us something so it was a bit weird and in the end tiresome. Good luck to him anyway.

I thought Birmingham or whatever had offered 10 for him in the summer?  Seems like we could have got more for that.  Or in the make weight for Suarez, we could have said we will pay 20 million for Suarez in 10 cash and Babel worth 10

Well I suppose it never really worked out for the chinless wonderkid.

Cant believe he was never tried on the right flank in all the time he was here. Just maybe....that was his position.

Would have got rid of 1 or 2 more ahead of him though. Jovanovic, Poulsen or Ngog hopefully will follow and generate some much needed Moolah to heklp get the players Kenny & Commolli wants.

Ryan has been one of the symbols of the club in recent years.. managers have come and gone and no one has ever got the best out of this lad. He has it in hm but the mental side has often been short..

He is the type of player who will blossom in his late 20s I think. We dont have time to wait that long!

Selling to buy again? with no debt? feck off, better not be, better just be clearing out the deadwood, more to follow please.

Mind you I suppose this means we will be getting new players in if some fringe players are being sold, god I hope they are first team players and not "The Next Drogba/Henry/Zidane/ insert name here"

Nearing the end of January and we need id say around 5 players, theres not even 5 players names being banded about in rumours, im not impressed, hopefully though, we have returned to the Liverpool way and the reason we are hearing hardly anything is because we are keeping it behind closed doors, mind you there is no reason a SINGLE half decent player would want to come here right now, look at where we are in the league, we arent going to be in ANY european football next season.

totally agree mate! good ridence babel-you just didn't take the countless oportunitys given to you. i sincerly hope he is just the start of clearing out dead wood, his attitude stunk! & his fecking so called natrual ability, was just another way he rubed salt in my wounds watching him.

his constant failier to deliver when ever he was given a chance in the side will be somthing that i'm glad i won't have to endure again!

i for one am made up with this & imho this isn't a situation of having to sell before we buy-it's a case of shipping him out now, while the club can still get a half decent fee for him, because he has had more than enough chances-enough is enough! who ever descision this was it was a great descision for the FC,hopefully this will be a major warning for many others that think that half hearted effort & a shyte attitude will be tolarated -cause with KK we all know it certainly won't be tolarated any longer!

too bad he didn't figure it out sooner eh?  :D

its weird though beause we could have sold him for more in the summer or earlier. Anyway it's the first piece of wood burnt so its a start. Surly this means we are indeed going to sign someone  ???
