Mill Financial 'swoop for Reds' - LFC ownership latest

Oct 14 2010 By John Thompson

The Liverpool FC ownership war has taken a dramatic twist with reports that Mill Financial have effectively taken over the club.

It is being claimed the American based Hedge Fund has acquired all of Tom Hicks' shares to go along with those of George Gillett, which it already owned.

It is further claimed that if they repay all outstanding loans to RBS before the set deadline, they will by default become the new owners of LFC, nudging out New England Sports Ventures.

However the Echo understands the move would not signal Hicks and Gillett returning to ascendancy in the battle for the Reds.

Instead it is believed Mill Financial, in turn owned by Springfield Financial who have links with the Washington Redskins American Football team, may be acting on behalf of another, as yet unamed and unknown group who have put themselves in a position to move in at the 11th hour and takeover the club.

Inevitably, it will lead to speculation that Chinese businessman Kenny Huang could be behind today's dramatic developments, though that is by no means clear.

Critical meetings to discuss today's development are now being held in London involving Liverpool's English directors - chairman Martin Broughton, Managing Director Christian Purslow and Commercial Director Ian Ayre.

No one from the club was prepared to comment on the so far unconfirmed reports.

i dont think it has to. Mill already owns part / all of Gilletts shares

If Hicks sells his 50% stake in Liverpool to Mill, it doesn't need aproval from the board, or ratification by the premier league - thats how Mill financial currently came to own part of the club in the first place (cause Gillett defaulted on the loan), and why they're so interested in making more money out of it because they also stand to lose money if the NESV deal goes through

cp_edwards   @JimBoardman  Interesting that PL made no comment when Mill originally took 50% ownership, surely constitutes a change of owner?

bensmith_times:    Important to stress that Mill should not be portrayed as bad news for #lfc at this stage

Is it true that Mill Financial are going to pay the loan back to RBS at 2pm. today ?

If that's the case , then can we not get an emergency court hearing to get this injunction lifted before that time.

Mill Financial must have  a death wish to go anywhere near this !!

I heard Mills might have another buyer lined up for 11th hour takeover.  Possibly Kenny.

This is all insane.  Looks like the Liverpool board are on the back foot now.

Mill Financial are  a Hedge Fund . They are not into putting money into sports business' , they are into buying distressed business , asset strip , then sell off to the highest bidder.

God help us !!

also

if i open up a trading account now and buy for example £500m of shares in RBS, it doesn't need board approval, only the approval of those people selling the shares.

transfer of shares does not need board approval. Hence when Gilletts shares were given to Mill when he defaulted on the loan it didn't need board approval and it didn't need premier league approval.

I agree with the reports that IF Mill has purchased Hicks's shares, Mill can legitimately pay the loan to RBS and own the club outright

Then Mill can do with Liverpool what it wants.

Including, as some reports suggest, sell to Peter Lim for a quick profit......
