Not sure what to believe but really depends what our fans want? Do we want an owner like Abromovich or just to get rid of the two Yanks? Below is an article from the Toronto Star. I'm still thinking about the answer though.

Hmm, I agree with the sentiments in general, but not with saying that we don't need to throw money about. That is in fact exactly what we need to be doing, and it's what we should have been doing the last three seasons. When this owner comes in, if he comes in, I expect him to splash some serious coin in the areas we need it. F*cking sick to death with the Lucas', Konchesky, and Poulson et al signings. The first team needs big money spent on it and I've been beating that drum for three years.  I'm not sure American owners are up to meeting demands like that. They aren't used to buying players when in their sports "franchises" players are drafted in instead of signed, usually. I'm not quite sure, but I think I remember seeing something on a sports site a while ago about a baseball player being sold for a record price. Maybe one of our American posters on here knows more about that. Anyway, it's rare for them to go digging in their pockets to buying wholesale over there.

I'm sorry but we've been here before. I welcome the Red sox fans of course but 3 years ago i remember welcoming Montreal hockey fans and texas ranger fans who told us good things about the two idiots. I just don't see the cash coming without debt.

Very apt methinks. We need to do our own due diiligence on our potential new owners.

we don't get fooled again

Give me the guy who bought City every single time.

I dont wanna end up like Aston Villa.  Sustaniable but always there or thereabouts. Football and especially the EPL now requires hundreds of millions to challenge at the top.

Its all good that the Red sox have been a success but with draft system pretty much all franchises in the US get an option to sign the best talent.  A side could finish near the bottom and have 2 or 3 of the best players in that respective sport.  In football its just not like that.  We need to get back in the CL ASAP and without spending serious serious money it isnt going to happen.

Hello again.  :)  To answer a few questions...

The stadium -- Fenway is the most historic park in baseball, 98 years old.  It was in ok shape but needed renovation or to be replaced. They decided to renovate and have done a magnificent job. Here's an article that shows how uniquely they improved it:

http://leeinks.weei.com/sports....ce-2002

People seemed confused about Camden Yards, the Baltimore Orioles stadium. It's true that Baltimore is poorly run. But the connection is only that Larry Lucchino, our club President, used to be there when it was run well in the early 1990s. At that time they built a new ballpark which was very highly praised. The same architect who built that Baltimore park renovated Fenway. Here is a review of it:
http://www.ballparksofbaseball.com/reviews/camdenreviews.htm

And here's the Fenway Park review with a video: http://www.ballparksofbaseball.com/al/FenwayPark.htm

So whether they renovate your stadium or build a new one, these Henry folks will do a great job. Don't worry, I say that seriously. It may take time, but they'll fix it right.

Will they spend money? Boston is the #2 spender in baseball. They don't spend foolishly. Yes, they've made a few mistakes on players they've bought, but overall they are excellent decision-makers no one is perfect and they are better than most. They are the only team to win 2 World Series since 2001. I would assume that they'll spend for you too, but prudently.  Another thing...I realize that baseball and football are different, but the Red Sox have excellent youth development (minor leagues or farm system). Here's an article ranking them 4th of 30 teams (note that the way baseball's system is built, it's usually the less successful major league teams who actually have the best farm system due to their high draft positions -- then later they mess up and lose them to clubs like Boston and New York):

http://www.deepleagues.com/?p=1978

So, one thing that no one's mentioned, the above should indicate that there will be an emphasis on improving your youth, so that in future years you won't need to buy so many expensive veterans.

How do we feel as Red Sox fans? Well...  ???  The Red Sox are a money-making machine. So we have no worries financially. I know only a bit about Euro football, but I know enough to see that there are some mega-rich owners who spend stupidly and extravagantly.  I worry about you being a drain on us as Henry tries to compete in the Premier League. He WILL spend money, no doubt, but will your need for money hurt the Red Sox? That's my selfish concern.

You ARE getting a good new ownership group. Fear not. They have been superb here. Good honest people, smart, innovative, very concerned about us fans and driven to win. This is a good day for you!

You can't base ownership purely on geography, learn a bit about the guy and you'll see he's class. He's not gonna spend 300 million a seasno on players, but thats now what we want anyways

Naw, mate, there's plenty of big name sales, wheeling and dealing etc. in American sports, including baseball.  The draft targets promising youngsters but that's not the only--nor necessarily the primary--way that teams improve their rosters.  Nothing to worry about on that score.

On the point raised in the Echo blog about parallels between the Sox and Liverpool, I'd definitely agree: both storied clubs with a rabid and far-reaching fan base (all of New England support the Sox, as does much of Atlantic Canada, where I'm living now...with many other fans scattered around the continent and the world), who had/have been starved for success for quite some time.  It's heartening that this group got it right in Boston because that's hopefully provided the template for getting it right in Liverpool.

With that said, I think there are similar parallels between Liverpool and the Montreal Canadiens and so was optimistic when Gillett first turned up.  :suspect:  The difference being, of course, that the Red Sox have returned to the pinnacle of their sport since getting new owners, whereas the Canadiens didn't get up to much under Gillett (surprise, surprise).  For now, I'll remain cautiously optimistic while enjoying the spectacle of Twit and Tw.at being run out of town on a rail.  :nod

That is what most of us telling when H and G took over 3 years ago ... I have a bad feeling about this new owner ...

Hick will also try to stop the club from making any profit during this time.
Hicks could ask the pream to block liverpool from playing any game or for games to be set under closed doors.

this is going to get very nasty now.

the club was sort of solf 3 hours ago yet Hicks is in place to get it all put in the bim.

the sale of the club still leaves us with a debt of 37mil, thats about the norm for a big company.

buy do the new owners have the funds to buy players and build a ground.....no.

Your just p!ssed cos you didnt have a scooby what was happening  :D

Didn't you hear - lakes said last night he mentioned them a while back but the reality he didn't have the first clue  :D

lol benny, they were the unamed 3rd party, they first looked into it way back two years ago, a few days before the west ham game. then last year they were asked again to be a 3rd party when the board changed over.

now they have taken over the club, well untill Hicks has it put on hold in court.

For those wondering about Fenway/Anfield, the Red Sox owners looked at building a new stadium, but the fan were so connected to Fenway and so upset at the idea of moving, they decided to redevelop the historic park. They listened to the fans.

In baseball, there aren't transfer fees per se; more so, they trade players, not money. But the contracts the players receive are more expensive than football players, so it evens out, for sure. I have no worries about John Henry not spending the money and making the right moves. He's dealt with a rabid, historic and passionate fan base, and now he's about to get another!
