RAFA BENITEZ LEAVES LIVERPOOL - Official Thread, includes merged threads

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I will be staggered if he keeps his job and this situation has split fans right down the middle. There is such passionate support for this man on one side and yet on the other there are people who are falling out of love with club whilst he remains in post. At the moment I have to be honest and say that if Benitez remains in the job for another term I will find it very hard to find the enthusiasm and passion for Liverpool I once had. Its just falling apart under his reign and I think another year of Benitez will have me questioning if I stomach anymore of it.

Do yous two seriously think Rafa is at fault for 20 years of us not winning the league? Do both of you seriously think Rafa Benitez is the biggest problem at this club at the moment? The way some of you are banging on, you'd think he was the worst manager in the league or in the history of this football club.

Funny how people twist things and exaggerate to try and make a point.
Where did either of them make out that the manager is the worst thing at the club ?

What they did was in the RAFA BENITEZ thread..not the owners one- they stated that they were finding it hard to have the same enthusiasm as previously.
I can relate to that.
I have not been able to enjoy football at all this season and its really the managers fault.
No he isnt the worst manager in the league but if you give every other manager in the league a shot at managing liverpool they would be hard pushed to have a season as bad.

No Reg, I support Liverpool FC not Rafa fc, so while I may feel Rafa is not the best manager we can have I will still support the team. You on the other hand will soon no doubt find similar qualities in your new master up the road.  No doubt failure will be yet another comfort for you in your new home.

Still there is hope for you yet .... you seem finally able to accept that there IS BETTER OUT THERE.

After coming 2nd last season i think its fair to say i was optimistic mate.
But its not just the fact that this season has been so bad. Its the fact that i think it could have been avoided.
We havent been bad this season, at times we have been an embarrasment.
And it doesnt matter now where we came last season.
The fact is we are going to come 7th this season and were humiliated in the cups meaning we have now gone a long time without a trophy.

A change of manager is essential.

Have to agree with the above.. it looks to me like last season was the "freak" season as if you look at how we have played generally under Rafa since he came here it hasn't been very pretty.

You just have to take into account the negative way he sets the team up, his numerous poor buys, his no sense substitutions, his stubborness, his loyalty to players who work hard but have little skill and his man management to see he is not going to improve the way we play.

Who remembers pass and move?  Its a distant memory now.. very sad
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Benitez has worked under difficult circumstances but its a bloody hard job anyway. Sometimes you get the impression he wants an easy ride when hes always asking for big money and more control but no top football job is free of restraint. All managers at the best clubs have hellish pressure and expectation under the eye of rich owners and huge expectation. Ok hes not had the biggest budget, but hes has had one of biggest in the divison at his disposal and the advantage of being in charge of a prestigious club that by his own admission can attract top class players anyway. The control he begged for was given and now he over looks everything at Anfield.I doubt theres a manager with more control at a football club anywhere. I am not arguing that the owners have not caused him problems, its obvious they have, but I just feel its being over played by Benitez to mask some of the poor decisions hes made in the transfer market and his tactics in the Premiership. Despite all the adversity at the football club it would surely be very difficult to argue that he should not have made much better use of his resources and his selection of player and squad assembly has been very poor. To me the rot really set in when he tried to use Alonso as a make weight to broker a deal for Barry. In itself it was a poor decision and in the ripples cost us the services of Alonso and we lost out on Barry anyways. Then we had the Keane fiasco last year followed up by another 2 lads signed this summer for £40m who have not made any impression at all.Its just not good enough and frankly the prospect of Benitez now being given any more funds frightens the life out of me because to me it looks like the fella has lost the dressing room and is likely to make a hash of any recruitement whilst looking as dazed and on the ropes as he does right now.

Very true

The majority of the games we've paid to watch under Rafa have been negative
I will be very disappointed if hes still here next week never mind August
He will never change his ways, and I find it hard to believe that some people still cant see that he has way to many faults in his managerial make up to ever take us back to the top.
A truly outstanding manager would have never made his poor judgment calls
Rafa just hasn't got it, and all his smoke and mirror spin wont ever change that.
