Considering Jonjo's form of late ,shouldn't he be resting and Gerrard playing? :)
Seriously ,what really impresses me about the lad is his mentality ,no fear straight forward all in their ,Good Job Shelvy!!

I can't believe I missed such a good game. I thought it was starting in 8. f*cking idiot. At least I saw Shelvey's second goal. Can someone tell me how we did? Also, I want to know how bad Assaidi and Pacheco were  :glare:

Well, I enjoyed that. Shelvey certainly made a difference, but I think we need to recognise Borini - obviously Coates goal would've been saved without  Borini's obviously dummy to put the defender off, and Shelvey's second came as a result of a great little turn and run from Borini that opened up the defence for Shelvey to run in.

Enrique and Carra weren't great were they? Our defence this year has been concerning, a lot of individual errors.

lots of mistakes, but a good performance from the kids, which will build their character and confidence.  Only down side to the match is Cara, he's past it and shouldn't be playing anymore.

Pacheco worked hard but was barely seen. Partly because of the service to him, but when Borini came on for Pacheco his movement made a real difference.
Assaidi played well in the first half (played on the left), but didn't do so much in the second half (playing on the right). Looked decent though, definitely not a bad debut.

Defensively worrying but impressed with the drive to win.

Average
Jones - ok, won't ever be more than a sub keeper for a top club
Coates - good game but need to be much more composed if he is to establish a first team place
Enrique - confident but a little rusty after injury, will get back to bet soon I'm sure
Downing - good game but again overshadowed by more talented youth players
Assaidi - good debut, promising.
Sterling - not on long enough to make an impact
Borini - same as above

Poor
Pacheco - had his chance, outshone by all the other reserves playing.
Sahin - disappointing, anonymous for big parts of it. Was the loan fee really £6m?
Carragher - outmuscled? Really...

Good
Suso - quality, a real talent.
Shelvey - immense, had that Gerrard-esque knack of changing a game
Wisdom - impressed, look composed and physically ready for senior football
Henderson - no where near as good as Shelvey or Suso but put it a really good shift. Needs to build on this.

Downing did assist Coates for his goal right? (since Borini didn't get a touch).

I thought Sahin was good, kept the tempo ticking and his passing was superb tonight

I would say that Sahin, Henderson, Shelvey, Suso and Wisdom all looked good tonight.

Wisdom was great defensively, but he doesn't look like a right back at all

I didn't really notice him until the latter parts of the game. Looked far more dynamic in a Madrid shirt

Sahin has hardly played in 12 months !!

And Enrique was absolutely shocking out there
