WBA vs Liverpool 02/02/2014

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Well since no one is willing to start a thread for this important match I guess I'll try my luck as a match thread opener.

Like I said, very important match against a tricky side, regardless of their league position. They took points away from Everton, Manchester, Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea so they tend to play well with the bigger sides. Hopefully our strikers will be up to it like they were last time we played them and we'll have no problems.

The match is important because if we win we'll have a good distance away from our rivals for 4th place finish (9 from United, 5 from Spurs and 4 from Everton), and we might get very close to Chelsea, who have to play against City at the Etihad on Monday.

As for our tactics, as good as we were against Everton I don't think we should go with the same approach again. The derby was exactly that, a derby, where tactics are not as important as motivation and the will to win. We were extra motivated and made every touch of those 40% possession count. I'm not talking just about Gerrard, I'm talking about the entire team. I honestly doubt that we'll see similar performance again and knowing that WBA have a tough midfield themselves with players such as Mulumbu and Yacob I think that we should play it safe and play Allen in that midfield of ours. This is what I'd go for:

                                            Mignolet

                           Kelly      Skrtel     Toure     Flanagan

                                            Gerrard

                                    Hendo            Allen

                            Sturridge     Suarez     Coutinho

Despite us usually labelled as favourites in these match up's I think West Brom have won four of our last eight meetings (?), we can't afford another slip up against them today.

Hopefully the lads will keep up their focus and intensity.

Mancs lost yesterday, so if we win today then that's 9 points between us and Mancs.

Let's capitalize and show people why we deserve that CL spot!

With United losing and Spurs drawing a win today would put us stongly in the drivers seat for fourth.

Attacking wise we are strong very strong and If gerrard pulls out a perfromace he did against everton then i think we will win this comfortably. Im not keen on the CB pairing of Skrtel and Toure but at the moment thats all we have so have to make do.

Unreal vision from Suarez to pick out Sterling for the goal. Some player.

Taking it routinely but also too comfortable at times. Good first half in any case. Insane assist by Suarez.

Really? You thought we played good? I thought it was far from convincing against an extremely weak ,confidence-less team. Energy level is low ,having trouble developing the game ,losing way too many balls if was just the opposite from a good performance.

Coutinho and Hendo are the most disappointing ,Coutinho is losing way too many balls and Hendo looks like a championship player ,he is in decline from the last games.
1-0 is a very narrow lead in the PL ,we need to regroup and start playing with intent and purpose.

Think you'll find it was Coutinho who passed the through ball to Sterling that resulted in a goal. No what you mean though. Hope BR gave them a kick up the ar.se at half time.
