Anyway might as well have a go at discussing the football seriously, there must be one or two who still want to do that.

In fairness we would have nicked it had we got something from the game. In the first half in particular we quite simply didn't play well enough. There were definately some positives for me, the most obvious of which was Mereiles who I thought pout in a hugely encouraging performance. On this evidence he's going to be an excellent player, and full marks to the poster who likened him to Steven Ireland, that's exactly the type of player he is.

I liked it when we went 4-4-2, for a couple of reasons. Firstly it meant we could drop Gerrard (who was sensational throughout for us) into midfield and still have someone to hit. Secondly, it seemed to re-invigorate Torres who came to life. Now N'Gog isn't up to it yet, but if we had someone who was I'm sure that's the way we will play.

Maxi was completely submerged, lost in the pace of the game but he did try. Unfortunately for us and him though, he isn't going to be a success I'm afraid, and as such we should use him only if we have to. Konchesly started well but I thought faded against admittedly a very good winger, while Poulsen was excellent throughout. Cole is beginning to find his feet again, and I thought defensively we did Ok apart from dealing with crosses. The Greek is the only answer we have at the club, and whether he is good enough in other aspects remains to be seen.

All in all though, I think there were encouraging signs for us. I'm certainly not going to join any posses high fiving each other while they put the boot into a manager who has had five games in charge.

I'm not as much angry by the fact that we lost than by the way we defended. It's an absolutely pathetic way of defending. It's like the houllier way of defending only thing is that we had hyppia and henchoz back then. I think skrtl is not good enough. Why is Roy persisting with skrtl? Get agger back in there, he's not a reserve left back for crying out loud. Last season we made a similar mistake of starting with skrtl and when we switched to agger we became much better...

Maxi is awful.  I have not seen him play 1 good game for Liverpool.  His form for 36 months has been shocking.  His not good enough!!

Dundalk is right there were flashes of potential.
But there are clear areas where improvement can be made with personnel changes, i think nearly all agree about Maxi.
The defence also needs some sorting, for me Agger should be in for Skrtel.

Gutted. Tale of two halfs , another jekyl and hyde performance. All the old cliches, but i'm strangely encouraged by that performance because we are not far off being a good side that compete imo . Two downsides only for me (apart from the defeat ) . Poulson is not mobile enough and our defending is atrocious . Agger for skrtle will help solve the defending and either lucas and gerrard or mereiles and gerrard in midfield . Nando must be pulling his feckin hair out with the lack of seviceat times. We also need to defend higher up as a team and press the players in possesion . Once we equalised we sat off like wedid in the whole of the first half , your just inviting presure . Made up with the fighting spirit and the quality we showed in the second half . So good positives a couple of negatives. We move on .

Dude why do you resort to abusing other posters when we are all upset with the result? What ciggy said is true we have lost 2 games in 5 with a single win. We have 5 out of 15 points. Lost 10 points.

Poulsen excellent !? Gerrard sensational ?! Gerrard scored a penalty and a great free kick within a ten min period but bar that was quiet - Torres had a couple of good moments, same with cole . Poulsen was a statue throughout he game - nowhere near any manc player and when he got to them they got past him at ease - just watch the winner as a perfect example when he was slow once again to close Scholes down - konchesky was in Nanis pocket all game long .

Nice post Igor. I agree that there were signs. We've got some good footballers in the team now, Mereiles and Poulsen can both play, and it showed by the way we were able to ping it about. Where we lacked for much of the game was in cutting edge, but there signs there once we really had to go for it.

Defensively we haven't really learnt that much. We have been short of a commanding centre half for a few seasons now, and three goals today came from poorly defended crosses. That the plast one was put over by a player who unquestionably should have been sent off 15 minutes earlier doesn't make it any easier to take.
