Intesesting if this can be believed.

I was on a business lunch yesterday and one of my suppliers has lots of contacts within the Liverpool family.  One of his best mates comapnies delas with DIC on some level (nothing to do with Sports, he some millionaire steel bloke.. or something).

Well this guy who I was talking to was saying that his mate had met with some of the DIC people when they came over last week for the first semi against Chelsea.  They got talking about Liverpool and he was told that the deal with Gillette is signed, but can not be released until the end of May as that whe the agreement between Gillete and Hicks is over and they can then sell with out the other persons permission.

They also said that they may be going to the papers soon as they where not happy with the greif that David Moores has been getting from sections of the fans as it is David Moores who, out of his own money paid for both the Torres and Masherano deals.

They also said they see Liverpool as one of the biggest sporting clubs in the world and if managed correctly will make them obscene amounts of money, but they will definatley support Rafa (who they said they would keep) in the transfer market in almost Abromovich style.

Now I deal with this guy pretty much every day, I have just been involved in handing him a multi million pound deal BUT I don't really know him.  He doesn't seem to be a bullsh1tter but obviously everything I have written here has only come from him..

I take it we will have to sit and wait, but if it comes into the papers that Moores did pay for Torres and Mascha we should believe that we will be owned at least 50% by the Arabs before next season and have a sizeable transfer kitty for the summer.

Ps Don't shoot the messenger:p
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

yes but IF and it is a big IF we loose tomorrow then the fact that Hicks will then have to sell up to DIC will soften the blow quite a bit for me.  :D

But sod that I want us to spank the chavs then destroy the Mancs and crush Fergies dreams before being taken over by one of the richest people in the world.  :buttrock  :wwww  :wwww

its gonna take a whole lot more than some yank selling his share in our club to soften the blow of a miracle defeat against chelsea.

Not for me TBPH. If you offered me here and now a defeat to Chelsea and Hicks selling out the next day, I'd have that in a heartbeat. Getting rid of these owners is far more important than winning the Champions League this season.

no mick. for me we're a footballing club and any success on the pitch should be treated with more importance than anything off the pitch. I'd rather see us win against Havant and Waterlooville than Hicks leaving because it's a success on the pitch. Plus the more success we have on the pitch, the more freedom it gives Benitez to demand money off Hicks and the stronger the grip the fans have on Hicks. It also puts more money into the club which may give Hicks the extra couple of millions he wants before he leaves.

Either way, I'd rather see us win any single match before wanting Hicks to leave. That's not to say I don't want Hicks out because I like everybody else do, but success on the pitch comes first and foremost for me.

You need to open your eyes and smell the coffee soft lad.

i know mick gets on everyone's tits, but to call him "soft lad" is a bit to far.  :rasp

seriously though, you would rather see Liverpool fail just to get Hicks out? You don't want Liverpool to succeed?  :no soft lad

Can you just confirm something for me soft lad, is our name Liverpool behind the scenes Club? is our name Liverpool buisness club? is our name Liverpool franchise Club? or is our name Liverpool FOOTBALL Club? If you're not so soft as to realise our name is Liverpool Football Club, then you must surely see that football comes first...buisness second. I've never wanted Liverpool to lose and never will, if that means Tom Hicks is here for 50 years then I couldn't give a toss, because I want Liverpool to succeed...not Tom Hicks to fail. People will obviously come back with saying we can't succeed while Hicks is here...well since Hicks arrived, we've signed our most expensive defender, midfielder and forward as well as two european cup semi finals...something other clubs can only dream of. No doubt people will reply with it's all down to Benitez, but we're gonna blame Hicks when things go bad.  :no discraceful. If we're gonna blame Hicks when things go bad, shall we praise him when things go right? Of course we won't, which is why I'll never blame Hicks for what happens on the pitch. What happens on the pitch is the most important thing for this club, because we are and always will be a football club first and foremost. Success on the pitch is much more important than getting rid of Tom Hicks.

Let's just be honest...you and everyone who else who considers getting rid of Hicks and Gillett is more important than succeeding on the pitch, can sod off, don't attend matches and don't celebrate when we win the league, european cup, fa cup and league cup next year. Just sit there with a face like thunder, because Hicks and Gillett are still the owners.

So wake up and smell the coffee soft lad.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Although i agree with your sentiment i think you're being very short-sighted in your opinion. Of course we all want Liverpool to win every game and every trophy, but to think that Hicks is in this for anything but the short-term cash is ignorant. Yes Hicks will buy us the best players- he's not going to buy us worse ones is he? But he will also level ALL the debt against the club which Moores could have done. Why didn't Moores do that- because he knows the risk involved (take a look at Leeds for evidence)!

With the team we have at the moment it would have taken 2 monumental performances for us to win the Champions league this year. Possible- Yes. Probable- if i'm honest, No! We don't have the transfer kitty to compete with Man U or Chelsea and Hicks certainly can't afford to bank-roll it in the short term to get the long term gain. Yes he'll buy us players, start building the stadium to solidify his 'business' and then sell it for more because with these done we can only be worth more. Now would you rather us be dragged through the mud and live in complete uncertainty while he does this, or would you rather DIC took over now and we start building from today free from mud-slinging and uncertainty?

If your answer is still Yes then it is you that are the soft lad, personally i'd rather take the defeat, sell for a reasonable price and start really building something from today free from all the bulls.hit! If we're playing bad on the field we should know where to level the responsibility and at the moment there are too many options in the equation that have nothing directly to do with the team!

I am almost certain that Torres was paid for with a seperate loan, taken out for summer signings and which was also used for Babel and possibly Yossi....

Liverpool's European exit may force DIC move
Oliver Kay

The most turbulent season in Liverpool’s recent history is approaching a distinctly low-key conclusion, on the pitch at least, but the battle in the boardroom will continue to rage over the summer, with George Gillett Jr determined to defy Tom Hicks, his estranged co-chairman, and force through the sale of his 50 per cent stake in the club to Dubai International Capital (DIC), the Arab investment group.

DIC remains supremely confident that it will take possession of Gillett’s shares in the club in the coming weeks, but Hicks maintains that he will continue to exercise the power of veto he has — a claim that is disputed by Gillett and DIC — to prevent any such sale.

Hicks’s proposed veto is on the basis that he is still trying to find the funds or the backing that he would need to buy Liverpool outright. Hicks is under pressure to prove that he has the funds to take the club forward on his own, but sources in Texas have indicated that he is drawing up a business plan that would raise the £300 million needed for the construction of the club’s proposed new 71,000-capacity stadium in Stanley Park, which is due to open in 2011.

The end of Liverpool’s Champions League campaign, after their defeat by Chelsea in the second leg of their semi-final on Wednesday, was expected to accelerate the process, with DIC having kept its distance over the past four weeks, but now it must weigh up its next move, whether to wait or whether to exert more pressure on the owners to reach a solution. For now Rafael Benítez, the Liverpool manager, appears to be working on the assumption that Hicks will be calling the shots at Anfield for the foreseeable future.

Benítez suggested after his team’s defeat at Stamford Bridge that “just one signing could make a massive difference” to Liverpool, but once again a significant turnover of players is expected. He already has agreed a deal to sign Philipp Degen, the Switzerland right back, on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund and has made moves to sign Fernando Amorebieta, the 23-year-old central defender, from Athletic Bilbao. Those would be relatively minor deals, but Benítez will pursue more ambitious targets, including Gareth Barry, the Aston Villa and England midfield player, and at least one winger and striker as well as the usual smattering of talented teenagers.

On the way out of the club are Harry Kewell, whose contract expires on June 30, and, if the right offer comes in, Scott Carson, John Arne Riise, Jermaine Pennant and Peter Crouch. Even Xabi Alonso, a player who has been one of the cornerstones of the Benítez regime, is likely to be sold if any of his previous suitors, such as Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid or Barcelona, meet his £15 million valuation, particularly if Barry arrives as his replacement in midfield.

Steven Gerrard, the captain, believes that reinforcements are needed if Liverpool are to challenge for the Barclays Premier League title next term, but, having been unhappy with the team’s progress earlier in the season, he been reassured by their performances in recent months.

“There is no point looking back or thinking what might have been,” the England player said. “We have to look forward because we have to go into next season looking to improve again. Hopefully, we will go into next season with a stronger squad because that could make a big difference. If we can bottle this disappointment, it could be a big motivation for us.”

DIC will back Rafa Benitez if takeover succeeds

By Henry Winter
Last Updated: 2:33am BST 01/05/2008

Rafa Benitez has been reassured by DIC, the consortium seeking to take over Liverpool, that his position as manager will be safe if they buy out Anfield's current owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

DIC, the investment arm of the Dubai government, are keen to keep the Liverpool fans on their side, knowing how much the Kop reveres Benitez.

Liverpool's manager has been concerned about the uncertainty seizing Anfield, amid speculation that DIC might replace him with Jose Mourinho.

While the former Chelsea manager is understood to have informally sounded out DIC about the possibility of taking over from Benitez should their takeover go through, it was never pursued.

Liverpool fans voiced their support of Benitez during last night's Champions League semi-final second leg with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. DIC are aware that the appointment of Mourinho would not be tolerated by Liverpool fans, and the Portuguese manager is understood to be more interested in Inter Milan.

DIC have agreed a deal in principle with Gillett to buy his 50 per cent stake but have been told by Hicks that he has no interest in selling. He has pre-emption rights on Gillett's shares but DIC believe that option runs out at the end of May.

Although they are understood to be prepared to force the issue, they are unwilling to make their move until the end of the season.

DIC are concerned that reigniting the civil war inside the boardroom will destabilise Liverpool at a critical point in the club's European campaign.

Hicks has claimed that it was his partner Gillett who wanted to remove Benitez and hire the former Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who is now set to take over as Bayern Munich coach in the summer.

The move was a major PR disaster and has played a major part in turning the Liverpool's fans against the American owners and uniting them with Benitez.

DIC, who have been posied to make a £450 million bid for Liverpool for much of this season, have now made it clear they want dressing-room continuity in the form of Benitez. If the Spaniard were to leave, players like Fernando Torres and Pepe Reina would be expected to follow him out of Anfield.

so you'd rather we lose? ok...i wouldn't.

I don't want Hicks at this club anymore than you or any other Liverpool fan does, but do I want Liverpool to fail...no, not in a million years. Also I wish people would stop whinging about debt. Chelsea are one of the richest clubs in the world but are still in debt. Every single football side will be in debt. They'll all have outgoings put on the club rather than owner. Which is why Chelsea are in debt and not Ambrovich. So I take it when DIC come in, we won't be in any debt? It'll all be rosey? No again it won't. We'll still have debts, we'll still have huge wages to pay off, we'll still have a new stadium to build and we'll still have the possibility of DIC walking away with us in even more debt. Sometimes, you have to be careful what you wish for.

Also "we can't compete finicially with Man U and Chelsea"  I suppose we couldn't compete with them in 2005 when we won the european cup. Or in 2006 when we went further than United after they were knocked out in the group stage. Or 2007 where we made the final. How come we can't compete with them, only when we lose? We lose and straight away it's "we can't compete finicially" I take it United and Chelsea only had an influx of money AFTER mid september when we were top of the league, because obviously we couldn't of been top of the league when they have money could we, that might mean us competing and we all know we can't do that. So obviously the huge amounts of money Chelsea and United have came after our 6-0 drubbing of Derby. Or maybe it's down to the fact that they are much more consistant in their performances and cosistancy is one thing money can't buy So lets start looking at the basic problems before we shift excuses onto not having money.

I know where to level the responsibilty when we're playing badly on the field. It's the responsibilty of players and manager. For example...a decorater paints a wall badly, does he/she then go and blame his/her boss? No they take the flack because it's their job to perform as well as they can. Likewise it's up to the players and manager to perform in their job as well as they can. Tom Hicks dorsn't go and select the 11, he doesn't play any part in the match, so how can problems on the field be down to him? Blame him as much as you like for the new ground taking an age, blame him as much as you like for promising us this, that and the other and we're getting a tenth (if that) but on the field problems are not down to him or anyone else in the boardroom.

Keegan blasts “disgraceful” Hicks
May 4, 2008

Keegan branded Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks “disgraceful” and had no real idea about football. King Kev is absolutely livid at the way the American owners are handling the club.

“They’re a club I love and I think Rick Parry has been treated disgracefully.”

“What so-called businessmen, who are supposed to know about etiquette, are saying publicly in interviews should be said in the boardroom between individuals.”

“What I see – and I have my own opinion – is a guy in Hicks trying to get someone so riled that they’ll buy him out for more money. That’s what I see.

“I might be wrong, but if that’s not the case then why don’t they just get together in a room and work a way through it?”said Keegan.

Keegan continued: “Nobody’s safe – but have they ever been? These things will happen more and more as you get more people with money, who have no real idea about football, running clubs.
