As much as winning is the aim of the game; i have to say i would rather the Yanks got out of our club. If they were seriously hoping to stick around our new ground would be under way, he would have re-financed and everything would be rosey. But it isn't; if we win he'll drag it on into another season, our stadium still wouldn't be started and we'd be further in debt as Hicks will buy us some big player (to try and blind us further) and just level the fee against the club. In the short term, whatever it takes to get rid of him will benefit us in the long term. If Hicks stays we won't win the premiership next year and we'll be further along the Leeds road- simple as!

Success on the pitch IMO will not happen unless we rid ourselves of the current owners, the long term future and success on the pitch is dependant on us having real owners who back the manager financialy and otherwise. so YES i would defininatly take a loss now to be rid of G&H, and those who would not and look only at the short term are foolish to say the least.

If only it was that simple.

I agree that LFC exists to win trophies and not to make money but the future of the club is also paramount.

Thankfully we are not having to make a decision on one or the other, its not quite as simple as that.
But if we could get rid of the current owners and get some stability the rest and the future should take care of itself.

Ok so we have nothing left to play for this season. Surley now the focus now needs to be on what the :censored: is happening with the owners. Now that we are obviously not going to the final will DIC and the owners thrash out a deal sooner rather than later?

i can't see anything being done very soon just think if they are going to sale then it will be for every penny they can pinch and it will drag on, that mean signing new players becomes a huge problem as h/g won't want to part with money and dic will come in late and that means player will have been lost out on

hope i'm wrong and that they have already sorted most of the details out and it just a case of theres the paperwork get on and sign it, we live in hope anyway

Liverpool's European exit may force DIC moveOliver Kay
The most turbulent season in Liverpool’s recent history is approaching a distinctly low-key conclusion, on the pitch at least, but the battle in the boardroom will continue to rage over the summer, with George Gillett Jr determined to defy Tom Hicks, his estranged co-chairman, and force through the sale of his 50 per cent stake in the club to Dubai International Capital (DIC), the Arab investment group.

DIC remains supremely confident that it will take possession of Gillett’s shares in the club in the coming weeks, but Hicks maintains that he will continue to exercise the power of veto he has — a claim that is disputed by Gillett and DIC — to prevent any such sale.

Hicks’s proposed veto is on the basis that he is still trying to find the funds or the backing that he would need to buy Liverpool outright. Hicks is under pressure to prove that he has the funds to take the club forward on his own, but sources in Texas have indicated that he is drawing up a business plan that would raise the £300 million needed for the construction of the club’s proposed new 71,000-capacity stadium in Stanley Park, which is due to open in 2011.

The end of Liverpool’s Champions League campaign, after their defeat by Chelsea in the second leg of their semi-final on Wednesday, was expected to accelerate the process, with DIC having kept its distance over the past four weeks, but now it must weigh up its next move, whether to wait or whether to exert more pressure on the owners to reach a solution. For now Rafael Benítez, the Liverpool manager, appears to be working on the assumption that Hicks will be calling the shots at Anfield for the foreseeable future.

Benítez suggested after his team’s defeat at Stamford Bridge that “just one signing could make a massive difference” to Liverpool, but once again a significant turnover of players is expected. He already has agreed a deal to sign Philipp Degen, the Switzerland right back, on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund and has made moves to sign Fernando Amorebieta, the 23-year-old central defender, from Athletic Bilbao. Those would be relatively minor deals, but Benítez will pursue more ambitious targets, including Gareth Barry, the Aston Villa and England midfield player, and at least one winger and striker as well as the usual smattering of talented teenagers.

On the way out of the club are Harry Kewell, whose contract expires on June 30, and, if the right offer comes in, Scott Carson, John Arne Riise, Jermaine Pennant and Peter Crouch. Even Xabi Alonso, a player who has been one of the cornerstones of the Benítez regime, is likely to be sold if any of his previous suitors, such as Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid or Barcelona, meet his £15 million valuation, particularly if Barry arrives as his replacement in midfield.

Steven Gerrard, the captain, believes that reinforcements are needed if Liverpool are to challenge for the Barclays Premier League title next term, but, having been unhappy with the team’s progress earlier in the season, he been reassured by their performances in recent months.

“There is no point looking back or thinking what might have been,” the England player said. “We have to look forward because we have to go into next season looking to improve again. Hopefully, we will go into next season with a stronger squad because that could make a big difference. If we can bottle this disappointment, it could be a big motivation for us.”

Lets just get behind Rafa and the lads and show these two what football means to the fans of our club rather than us bitching over them again.

yes but IF and it is a big IF we loose tomorrow then the fact that Hicks will then have to sell up to DIC will soften the blow quite a bit for me.  :D

But sod that I want us to spank the chavs then destroy the Mancs and crush Fergies dreams before being taken over by one of the richest people in the world.  :buttrock  :wwww  :wwww

its gonna take a whole lot more than some yank selling his share in our club to soften the blow of a miracle defeat against chelsea.

Not for me TBPH. If you offered me here and now a defeat to Chelsea and Hicks selling out the next day, I'd have that in a heartbeat. Getting rid of these owners is far more important than winning the Champions League this season.

no mick. for me we're a footballing club and any success on the pitch should be treated with more importance than anything off the pitch. I'd rather see us win against Havant and Waterlooville than Hicks leaving because it's a success on the pitch. Plus the more success we have on the pitch, the more freedom it gives Benitez to demand money off Hicks and the stronger the grip the fans have on Hicks. It also puts more money into the club which may give Hicks the extra couple of millions he wants before he leaves.

Either way, I'd rather see us win any single match before wanting Hicks to leave. That's not to say I don't want Hicks out because I like everybody else do, but success on the pitch comes first and foremost for me.

You need to open your eyes and smell the coffee soft lad.

Whatever happens I just hope it happens smoothly and quickly. Its the Euros this summer and there is the potential for any of our targets to have their price tag rise should they have a good tournament (European targets of course :-). The last thing I want is to read that we missed out on several key signings and had to settle for 2nd or 3rd choice because things on our end were not sorted.

I seriously hope thats not all we are going to be going for. What about a new striker? This is all just paper talk right now anyway. The only one out of that lot I hope we do get is Bently. I think he has the makings to be able to hold down a 1st team place no problem.
