After all that talk.....beneitz negates it by picking a $hit team and we drop points against a sub-par team again... 

Bigmick and stu called it right when they did mention...after the team he picked against newcastle ..he will do this more often...and what you know....he did and he messed it up again. I mean which other manager (eh..Coach) picks Kuyt as a lone striker when he has torres and keane on the bench ?

The fact is now....its no longer in our hands. If manure wins all their games they will lead the table.

Thing is like i noted in a previous post mannure win ugly. look at thier 1-0 wins this season. Even when they play poor have players missing they still could dig in and get an odd goal from somewhere. We just lack that cutting edge. It could be lack of ambition, lack of passion or just the inexperience of challenging for the title. Its really unpredictable to think we could win the title because we have a major problem beating the lower sides and that will cost us heavily.

This was a frustrating game to watch.. We needed to win this one, regardless of what happened between Manure and Chelsea. If they drew and we stay top after Sunday, it won't change the fact that we dropped FOUR points against a relegation battling team.

Once again we managed to create nothing much despite the huge possession... anyone argued otherwise must be watching a different game. Champions don't and can't play well in all the games.. but something need to happen from somewhere for them.. Manure, Chelsea and Arsenal did it all the time on the way to glory. This time round, we were poor so we needed some luck but didn't get it.. Gerrard's shot in stoppage time was just a few inches away.. Such is the margin between success and failure.

I have lost count of how many 0-0 we already have this season. If we are honest with ourselves (whether you are happy-clappy or doom & gloom), we have to admit there is something seriously wrong here. IMHO, Stoke didn't even parked a bus in front of the goal this time round.. It fact, it wouldn't even be outrageous had they won the game bcos I thought we looked uneasy when they attacked (esp with Delap's long throws).

I thought leaving Torres AND Keane on the bench was shocking.. Noone should even try to speculate if they were injured, unfit or tired bcos they are CLEARLY NOT. It was simply a tactical decision that back-fired. By doing the outrageous & controversial of leaving Torres & Keane, I think Rafa has managed to outsmart himself again. I CANNOT think of a proper explanation other than Rafa GAMBLED one too many times bcos he thought a similar line-up with our Newcastle game would work as well.

Einstein once said "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." So to me, starting with a wrong formation/line-up is bad.. but refusing to change when the going get tough is worse (at least this time he gave Torres 30mins, unlike UCL final 2007 when he gave Crouch only a few mins).. but doing it all over again the next time round is madness!

Unfortunately, we can say or think all we want but Rafa will continue to it his way. That much I am sure.

Rafa was saying Stoke was a very good defensive team and I'm not surprised with the result. You have to wonder why Rafa put a very defensive line up against a very good defensive team....sounds like a draw to me from the get go. Babel played about 20 minutes and already more dangerous than Beni for 75 minutes. Rafa just left the substitution too late as always.

Make s one wonder that why did set up the reds like that! When you play away from home especially against a team that is shyte and will defend thier ar$ off you need a little imperus upfront and i guess we lacked that with the selection. Rafas love affair with kuyt will contine for long now.

Completely disappointed with that game from start to finish.  When you talk the talk on Friday you had better walk the walk on Saturday and Rafa let himself down with that lineup and with his substitutions.  The only thing I can say in favour of the team selection is that it bore a remarkable resemblance to the team we fielded at St. James' Park.  Just goes to show how poor Newcastle were on the day because Stoke had no difficulty exposing every weakness that lineup could muster.  We were chronically short of pace, offered very little width, failed to take charge of the game in the engine room and had no cutting edge whatsoever going forward.  If Torres was fit enough for 30 minutes he was fit enough to get minutes from the opening kick off and Keane, no matter how many sitters he's missed this season, still offers more of a goal threat than Kuyt.  I'm actually thankful we've got back-to-back derbies next because, as ragged as the football will doubtless be, at least Everton won't try to park the bus and Rafa won't help them out by unduly blunting our attack.

Keane has scored 3 goals in his last 3 games, Kuyt hasn't scored for two months. Just to keep things in perspective.

ok now that everyones settled down a little...

why did we only make 2 subs... and why did we only change like for like ? surely we were trying to win this game, werent we ?!

the main problem i had with the lineu, and the subs thereafter was the fct that we were always bound to find it very hard to make the transition from defense to attack... with mascherano and lucas u hav to players with poor passing and limited vision, to put it nicely...  i thought as 0 mins or so, we'd see the back of lucas for a forwrd IF ONLY to get Gerrard dictating the game from the middle and controlling our passing game a little better... benayoun saw very little of th ball and when he did he always semmed to manage to lose it... riera was pretty much isolated down the left with Aurelio offering very little in terms of attacking play... i thought we'd go for 2 upfront.. try to pin back their back 4 and open them up abit and then try to use the midfield 4 to start our attacks... as things stood, we didnt change anything and the only times we looked dangerous were when gerrard tried to take things into his own hands...

kuyt was poor despite all the defending he gets on these boards.. he was isolated against 4, but still managed to ruin quite a few attacking moves we had... poor touch, poor decisions and poor finishing to cap an overall poor display ..

elzhar/babel, torres and keane should have all been subbed eary on in the second half... stoke didnt change anything at half time and it was obvious that relying on balls played deep in their own area with little purpose were getting us nowhere..

poor result, hope the mancs and chelsea draw tomorrow because as things stand, any other result would only put more pressure on us...

We all know kuyt works his backside off and has a great overall work rate but i have to say he is just poor upfront. His shot he had was a odd angel but i have noticed when he takes shots on goal he never really is calm and composed he usually blasts the shot at the keeper or just hoping it hits the target. The guy is a dire striker. The goal stevie scored against newcastle was brill the technique was fab. If that was kuyt he would have hit the keeper without doubt.

If we want to be taken seriously, surely we can't have Benayoun, Kuyt or Lucas in the starting 11. As soon as I saw all 3 on the team sheet last night I could see the writing on the wall. You must feel for Robbie Keane, they don't play him with Torres, they don't play him without Torres. What has he done wrong? Surely something has happened. Did Benitez want him or was it just a board buy to make up for no Barry? game and a night. Got kicked out of the pub we were watching the game at around the 70th minute and then couldnt find anywhere else to watch the last 20 at 6am. Hopefully Manure and the Chavs start dropping a few of these games as well or we might be saying  goodbye to our title hopes again.
