Gerrard is a world class player and it showed when he was 19, same for Owen but there are not so many "world class" players out there so you cannot expect all players to be of that level. It does not mean that these players cannot become "very good" because they will improve. Gareth Barry, Lumpard, Andy Cole for example all improved a great deal but were/are never "world class players". Just because a player is not as good as Gerrard was at 19 when they are young does not mean that they are cack, it just means they are not "world class" but certainly can help the team win and will improve. No team has a squad of all world class players.

The game has changed a LOT since 1998.  There is much more money in the game and the PL is a lot more ruthless and competitive which makes it even harder for young lads to get a chance.

Spot on...

Good points..... agree completely.

Players like Stevie come along once in a generation. Unlikely we'll be able to replace him with ONE player..... If we can get 2 who can produce what 1 and half Gerrards can do.... we've done well.

Well Carra is saying Stevie could go on for another 4 or 5 years... no doubt they'd be advised to keep their gobs shut if he wasnt actually making a come back.

Imo the problem is the top6 clubs combined with stupid/greedy kids. The biggest talents are bought early to avoid insane prices and are stuck playing in the reserves for years. Its so important to qualify for europe that the top clubs cant really take a chance on the kids as they tend to be less consistant performers. The result is that they sit on the bench or play in the crappy reserve league.

If they went to clubs in the midtable/bottom table or even championship clubs instead i think they would develop faster. Those clubs can afford to let these kids play. They should not go to a big club before they are good enough to compete for a first team spot on a regular basis.

It would be even better to learn from spain and have a liverpool 2 team competing in the lower leagues instead of the useless reserveleague.

He will be back in training on monday, let's hope there won't be any setbacks and he will be at least on the bench for the next game

I don't think he's anywhere near done, but I don't expect him to already be on the bench for the Bolton game.  He may get a couple minutes in the Stoke game, especially if Kenny wants him for the Spurs game, but I can't say I'd expect him to get any time after that long break and only 1 week of training.

With so many injuries and on the wrong side of 30, I wonder whether he would be back at his best when he returns. As a precautionary measure, Kenny should build a team based on a post Gerrard era.

It may be he will never line up with Meireles, more likely with Adam, Suarez and Downing
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

We still need him and I pray for the lad that all the rumours regarding the possibility that it's all over is b0llocks.

See you back on the pitch Stevie lad..... in whatever capacity, he still has a lot too offer at 31.... unless the injuries have indeed taken their toll..
