This ex-player was who, may we ask?

Someone like Rush of Liverpool FC or actually someone like that fat old git who used to play centre back for the Pig and Shrew Pub team?

I wouldn't scoff at the "rumour" of SG's predicament...it was something feared way back in April when he broke down in some considerable distress.....just be prepared for bad news, which will make any news good :;):

well this post doesn't fill me with confidence :(

If he is knackered (which I again heard yesterday from another source) then perhaps there is a role for Cole. All the reports suggest he is fighting fit and raring to go. Not suggesting for a minute he would do as good a job as Stevie but he would slot into the Stevie G role as an advance midfielder.

Just a thought.

we are now getting linked with James McCarthy of Wigan and we have about 10 other midfielders= Gerrads a goona..............

maybe we are going to put all these new midfileders into a mince machine and come out with a new Gerrard.

I think more of a point is that he is not very well and we should wish him the best, I hear the docs are very worried about him, Ian Rush let the cat out the bag the other day to his bbc friends.
the docs are worried that he has now got blood poisoning and there was tracking in his leg.

if thats the case then he will do well to get back  before october as he will be so unfit.

Thommo's perm wrote:I think he could play the role of Hamman, sitting in front of the back four and breaking up attacks. He will still be a major force for us, just not as quick.

Problem with that is he is less disciplined than Hamann was and prone to "rush of blood" type tackles. His energy is what made Gerrard great and in that position he may be caught out of position. Sad because he is probably my all time best player, and I am old enough to have seen some great ones.

Cannot understand the benefit of keeping Gerrards injury situation under wraps really and they may as well just come clean and tell the fans the score. The drip of information just fuels speculation and gossip so just tell us whats going on and then we know what to expect from him, if anything, this campaign and in the future.

Stevie will come back and will still score plenty of goals for us before he retires but I think it's time to start looking at a proper long term replacement for him. If we got in someone young now he could maybe train under Stevie before he calls it a day. I know we have a lot of centre midfielders but none of them are good enough to fill his boots and im sure Aquilani will be off at some point, if not now then in the Jan window or certainly next summer. We need someone young like Wilshere, maybe James McCarthy from Wigan.
