Rafa is virtually powerless now
The players need to take control now and play to their strengths. Mash being banned might bring an unplanned response. Sometimes fate steps in and all the anal planning and boring attention to detail goes out the window and instinct kicks in.
Might go Boxing day now

very happy he has said that, our players should not to be seen putting the manager down at any cost.............behind closed doors is another matter.

I'm not sure of what the situation in the dressroom is, but I think Torres is quite honest when he defends the manager.

I like Fernando's words.

Unfortunately, him saying that is the definitive proof that Rafa's job is in real danger.

Without doubt its in danger
So it should be
Lets hope that Rafa understands this and adapts so that the team wins.

You're right. I think it's refreshing to hear from one of our most respected almost exactly what some of the fans (myself included) have been saying for the past while that the players really do need to look at themselves. Torres is one of the few that shouldn't include himself in that, and I think he knows it otherwise he wouldn't be saying it. It's almost like a sly dig to the rest of his team mates. The fact that he has to come out and publicaly state that sacking Rafa would do no good does show just how much Rafa's job is on the line now, and it's the media that are going heywire with all the speculation. The pressure is seriously on.

Why real Liverpool fans won't desert the troubled ship like the glory hunters calling for Rafa's head

By Richard Buxton in Liverpool Fans Blog
Published 18:58 20/12/09

Anyone who has walked down Bold Street in the heart of Liverpool city centre will have noticed a large poster adorning the outer wall of the Burger King restaurant on the corner proclaiming 'the home of the Whopper'. Seasoned Liverpool supporters would argue that the sign would be more fitting if plastered across the exterior of Anfield.

With the Reds' failure to carry on where they finished last season, the club had to resort to marketing techniques frequently used by local rivals Everton by having to sell tickets for the match against Wigan over the counter at their official club store in the bustling Liverpool One shopping centre.

Given that this was the game where the club marked the 50th anniversary of Bill Shankly's arrival at the club, one would expect this to be a sell-out. Only 41,116 supporters, 800 of whom were travelling Latics fans, watched Rafael Benitez's side run out 2-1 winners in a nervy finish.

The reason for the reduced capacity crowd and the over-the-counter sales was because the people who normally occupy those additional few thousand seats don't care about Bill Shankly, or what he did for Liverpool.

Furthermore, they aren't going to travel to Merseyside on a cold Wednesday night in December for all the hot dogs in Anfield unless Manchester United or Chelsea are playing at L4. This is because Liverpool Football Club has become a victim of its own success - and success, like the Pied Piper of Hamelin, attracts more than its fair share of rats.

Many a glory-hunting rodent has strode up Walton Breck Road over the past five years as the club marched on to European finals and nerve-wracking title races but as soon as success dries up, they will spearhead the mass exodus out from Anfield. It happened in the latter days of Gerard Houllier’s reign and, given current events, it will happen during Benitez’s time.

They will crawl back to their familiar rocks of Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford once the good times stop rolling. However, they will be back, and in greater numbers once success returns, but real Liverpool supporters, regardless of their personal views on Benitez, will back the manager of the club to the hilt until he resigns or is sacked by a higher power.

It is not in their nature to pander to national radio hosts’ demands by calling for the manager to be sacked and replaced by Jose Mourinho, turning a very blind eye to the Reds’ financial plight and the small matter of Benitez’s £20million pay-off should he be dismissed before his contract expires.

Nor is it in their nature to call for the manager’s head on the Kop following a frustrating draw, dressed head-to-toe in a jester hat, a Superman cape and home shirt with ‘comical’ slogans on the back; El Sexy 69 and Crouchenko to name but two.

However, those who maintain that Benitez should be supported, even if he is making an absolute pig’s ear of the season due to stretched resources, are accused of being personal apologists for the Spaniard; further evidence, were it needed, that the modern football supporter has lost his way.

As Liverpool prepare for a strong winter of discontent, a banner which proclaimed: "it's easy to support a team when in glory, but to support a team when in struggle…shows your character" could not be more apt for those who will continue to support their football club through thick and thin.

Yeah " REALFANS "  while the rest of us want a successful club the "real fans" are happy supporting a manager that has managed to drag us down to our lowest point since Souness left. Maybe those same "real fans" would prefer it if we had stayed loyal to Souness too

Maybe its time for a bit of "GLORY HUNTING", because I for one am sick of promises of "next season" and failure and would like a nice cup or two to go along with all the promises.

What I don't understand is why the feck are these "Glory Hunters " following Liverpool anyway? There's not been much "glory" around for going on for four years now!

Maybe its time that these "TRUE FANS" found another club that is happy with failure, and left Liverpool to the fans brought up on the fact that first is first and second is nowhere! "Here we go gathering cups in May", as now become as redundant as these "real fans" and their low expectations and Uriah Heep complex.

Or could it be, december being the month of christmas, a lot of peoples money is being spent on friends and family at a tricky period for britain, being in the state it is. So first of, from this, I gather this kid (and he must be a kid, with money to spend on himself) is possibly the most ignorant supporter we have as he clearly trying to big himself up as a "proper" supporter.

Nor is it in their nature to call for the manager’s head on the Kop following a frustrating draw, dressed head-to-toe in a jester hat, a Superman cape and home shirt with ‘comical’ slogans on the back; El Sexy 69 and Crouchenko to name but two.

Who gives a damn what people have put on the shirt? As far as im concerned they are investing money on the shirt itself, for the lettering and for the ticket. As far as im concerned, they are investing into to the club that help pay the wages and bring in future players. I always thought Liverpool were famous for the supporters sense of humour, obviously not.

My take, the kids a prat, who has tried to insult everyone who doesnt agree with him. Im better than you as I want rafa to stay....bloody hell.

  :D Oh dear.

Real fans can see the bigger picture. They know that staying within reach of Birmingham and Fulham is a massive achievement, and is fully deserving of an open topped bus parade at the end of the season.

I have noticed one or two real fans who have pledged allegiance to Rafa saying that if such and such was appointed manager, they'd never go to the game again etc etc.

Real fans will walk through a storm to support their club. As long as they like the manager and he's never told them to shush.

Since there is no money in January as I said already though back in August, how do you expalin that Lakes?

Weren't you pointing out that Rafa had so much more and wondered why he didn't spend it?
