Well he's abit like all managers really , makes good buys and bad buys .Makes mistakes (god forbid ) and rectifies those mistakes . Not perfect by any means ,but what manager is. The secret is winning shItloads  of  trophies to cover your mistakes ,which the great managers do and to which Rafa has done abit , but not enough for some .

Looks like we could get some reasonable fees for players who are contributing nothing to our season, Babel (10mil) Dossena (4.5mil) and Voronin (1.5mil). I imagine all three will receive golden handshakes as they have not asked for transfers. So we will probably end up with 13-15mil in our pockets. It will also mean our wage bill be reduced by about 100K a week.

If Rafa is going to get the boot at the end of the season or even earlier do we really want him to spend that money in Januart or shall we use it to pay off his and his staffs’ contracts when/if the time comes?

I see where you're coming from there and if we were in a slightly better league position I'd agree.

I think we need to invest some of the money on a player or two now though to try and finish 4th place and get CL.  Maxi Rodriguez would be a good start, but I'd like us to bring in one more, an out and out striker if we can.

If we need a striker we should be looking to get someone in on loan for the rest of the season rather than spend 10mil upwards on one. Because of the terrible season we are having Rafa can’t/shouldn’t be guaranteed a job for next season so it doesn’t make sense to give him that sort of money to spend. I seem to remember Houllier wanting to buy Dawson in the January before he was sacked but the board wouldn’t sanction the deal. Wouldn’t be surprised if the same happens this January.

Agreed. Benitez has proven time and time again that he is absolutely useless in the transfer market. 20 mil squandered on Aqualini is the latest nail in the coffin.

I dread to think where he'll waste money next.

So the lads been injured, yeah OK its dragged on a bit longer than expected which we are all fuc'ked off about! He has had a few appearances as a late sub and started a couple of games, that is all we have seen of him!

I think the term squandered and nail in coffin are just a little too harsh though.....just a tad!
Football pundits who have played the game as a career are saying its too early to judge the lad, given the fact he is not match fit, getting to know the team and coming from a different type of football.........................but people on here have their minds made up already

Head in sand?....feck all like it mate!

I've been watching football for long enough to know that you dont judge a player from a different League, finding match fitness and playing in a team miles off its best after a few cameo roles and a few starts back to back.

You and Tony should meet up or at very least chat on MSN,I reckon you would get on very well....you could call it the prozac gang, you should both were black and only use sad smileys in any correspondence! :(  :(

Exactly. The lad has played a few games and put in some average performances for a side that has been playing terribly since the beginning of the season and he’s already deemed a failure? What nonsense.
