REAL BETIS VS LIVERPOOL THREAD - all build up, reaction here

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Super result from the Reds and don't underestimate what a fine result this is. There won't be many teams who travel to Real Betis and claim all three pts and I suspect both Anders and Chelsea will not do so in the group stage.

Crouch didn't look overawed, Pongo was effective and 20 year old Sissoko played like he's been on this stage for years. A lot of positives from tonights game and it's nice to start our group stage witha  win for a change. Bring on the "special one" in a fortnight

??? Was you watching the same game as me  ???  Traore was dreadful and doesnt even belong in a Liverpool shirt, he should have left as a hero in May :)

What game were you watching? Traore was solid, he kept Joaquin[spelling] quiet for most of the game. Only late in the second-half did Joaquin get the best of Traore.

There is something utterley unique about a Liverpool /Man U game. The build up, the atmosphere in and around the ground, the fervour of the fans , the extra 20% players seem to find for this fixture.

I'lll be there Sunday singing my head off and reminding those "selective memory" mancs just how many times the most successful club in the history of English football have won the European Cup  :buttrock

Theres NO WAY I'm paying £43 (approx $85 ) to watch LFC at Brum ....and the cheecky feckers call us Scousers thieves ! ???

Just for you AB I'll draw a comparison. it costs circa £26 to watch LFC at Anfield , £23 to watch LFC at Aston Villa the closest ground to Birmingham. Their taking the :censored:

43 pounds !!?!?! Birmingham FC make me laugh, you'd think that you were paying to see Barcelona play instead of Birmingham for 43 pounds.

Hang on a second, what does the £400 you pay for your season ticket cover then?

Only home games I'm guessing.

You won't see many left-backs keep Joaquin as quiet as Traore did tonight. Yeah, he got skinned once, but most of the time Joaquin beats his man for fun, and he didn't get anything out of him for most of the game.

Sissoko was absolutely majestic. Looks like a phenomenal buy on what I've seen so far. Made Alonso look ordinary, which takes some doing. Garcia too had a great game. Perfect finish for the goal, and his work rate in getting quickly from attack back into shielding the defence was very, very impressive.

Crouch looked very good too - I've said all along that his touch will surprise a lot of people for such a gangly freak, and we saw that three or four times. The little dink through into the area in the run up to the second goal was absolutely sublime. Hats off too to Zenden for his cross - inch perfect. Shame there wasn't much more of that from him.

Carra made some important contributions, Pongo was up and down the pitch like a man possessed, and all in all it was a job well done in almost every position. Only Josemi and Hyypia really need a finger pointing at them, but to be fair the problems they had were completely down to the fact that they don't have enough pace to take on the players they were up against. Shame too that Cisse didn't capitalise on their looseness at the back towards the end - in that 2 on 1 he looked like he didn't have a clue what he wanted to do with the ball.

Reina will have a lot of attention this year, purely because we all want him to own that position for years to come. Tonight I thought, other than that slightly lame punch in the second half, that he looked the business. He's already giving the air of a very reassuring presence.

Scary second half, obviously, but that was inevitable given the quality of opposition, playing in their own back yard. I just wish we wouldn't sit back and try and absorb the pressure at times though - just whacking it up the field to nobody in particular does us no favours at all.

I'm not going to overanalyse too much though. It was a f*cking cracking result, and after a few jitters when the draw was made, I completely back us to make it out of the group on the strength of tonight's result and first half performance. :)

I was happy to see some players that had hit a bad patch of form play well. Zenden went well, dont know how you can rubbish him after his first half. He is the only Liverpool player that takes on players and puts in crosses from wide areas(something that you dont get from Risse).
Garcia was really active and the goal seemed to raise his confidence higher. Sissoko keeps on getting better and better...
Crouch looked really sharp in the first half, he is so good on the ball, it seems that whenever he gets the ball at his feet, all defenders turn and watch and he hits the open man. Great pass to Zenden to set up Garcia's goal.

I was watching at 4:30am with the volume down not to wake people up, but i couldnt control my emotions, i could not belive it, a goal in the 2nd minute!!
Well done Reds, a good 3 points
