RAFA BENITEZ LEAVES LIVERPOOL - Official Thread, includes merged threads

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Right, time for some facts.

1. Mourinho isn't going to be Liverpools next manager.
2. Rafa Benitez will still be in charge of Liverpool for game one next season.
3. Fernando Torres will still be playing up front for us next season.
4. The current owners will still be our owners next season.

There, I hope that clears a few things up for a few worriers. The big question is, if we don't sign anyone of note, what is our ambition for next season? Is it like this one to struggle to get into the top seven, or is it possible given our current squad to dream a bit bigger?

Being honest here Michael and realistic . What would you expect given the circumstances you've outlined .

I think that even if Rafa stays and we don't buy anyone of note we will do better next season. We may or may not get top four, but we will do a LOT better. We have too many good players not to!

You'd grow to love mourinho Nanny. He has that siege mentality that supporters love. Similar to mascherano. Its combative and straight talking. You get answer rather than "possibilities" :p

I think a lot depends on who is the manager Igor. I think this season we had a huge opportunity to do something given how poor the Premiership is/was, but we blew it.

Next season I expect it to be a lot harder if we don't spend any money. Whichever out of Chelsea/Man Utd doesn't win the title I expect to go in quite big. United have money in the coffers from the Ronaldo sale, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they cashed in on Berbatov. Chelsea have an ageing team, and my guess is Abrhamovic will bankroll a spree, particularly if they don't win the league. I think Man City will probably keep Mancini (who I rate highly), and I expect them to buy, while Arsenal must surely invest in some spine to compliment their elegance.

Spurs and Villa have outbought us over the last couple of seasons (not outSPENT, but outBOUGHT) and I think we'll find it tough to keep finishing above them.

In short, if Rafa stays as manager I think a top four spot is probably the limit of our ambitions (but we may well not get there) if we don't spend. Under a different manager (certainly one as good as say Mourinho) I'd expect us to challenge for the title (but not win it).

So a serious question Mick:

You honestly believe if we do nothing this summer except replaced Rafa with Mourinho, while Chelski, Manure, City, Villa and Spurs continue to spend/improve, that we will end 2nd/3rd with maybe 5 pts to the winners??

I am sorry, but I don't see such a vast improvement.
I'd still see us still having to fight to get 4th at best under any manager if nothing else changes from status quo.
I don't see that as pessimistic, but realistic.

Ok given the four things you've said will be fact next season . I'd say we will struggle to finish top four , infact i doubt we'd achieve it . If city get fourth this year they will defo spend big bucks for the champions league next year. Think Villa and spurs will outspend us next season so i'm looking at europa league again and a good cup run . Now hopefully i'm talking :censored: and Rafa would work with what he's got . Gerrard and Torres will stay fit and be sufficiently upbeat to spearhead a title challenge and a cup win will be good aswell ,

Serious question Igor. Given that the last three of Micks predictions come true, who do you honestly think we would have the better chance of improving with next season ....... Rafa or Dalglish/Mourinho? Forget the money argument.......same players, same owners.

So same as this season then. But who would be held accountable for it? Rafa, or the yanks?

Both. As S@int is getting at above, I honestly think Maureen would do a better job, yes. BUT if we have the same owners we simply cannot afford Maureen right? so we have Rafa and thats what we make do with and thats who we lend our support to

My question didnt involve maureen. My question was, who would be held accountable. Rafa, or the yanks?

depends on the goings on in the summer really then doesnt it? If he's given nothing to spend or has to embark on another sell before you buy fiasco then the Yanks will have to shoulder some blame

That said tho if Rafa wants to sell a player to buy another he surely must get it right and if he does get it wrong then it's his fault

Its purely circumstantial and how it will be viewed is completely subjective i.e. you know what the antis will say and you know what the pros will say

some people will look at the cause then the effect, others will focus on the effect

 .... now I really REALLY want to see Mourinho as our manager next season... just to see if Mick's predictions are correct... and also to put to bed some of these speculations...
