Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is planning a position change for Martin Kelly to help solve his selection dilemma at right-back. With fellow youngster John Flanagan also competing with Glen Johnson at full-back, Dalglish claims Kelly may have to revert to playing centre-half, where he plays for England Under-21s, to get more games at club level. “It’s brilliant for us,” said the Scot. “Kells played at centre-back for the Under-21s and that’s where he started here. That’s what he set out to be and maybe that’s where he will go back to. “The two goals Martin got in the last two games for the Under-21s will not do him any harm.

I've never seen Kelly play at cb for us so be interesting to see how he fits in if the opportunity comes up. There have been some disasters already this season with positional swapping, Skrtel comes to mind.

Gary Neville would never get into the England team until Rob Jones got injured.. Hope Martin Kelly can be as good, if not better than Rob Jones..

i was at the Liverpool-Sheffield Wednesday game in August 1993.. and Rob Jones was outstanding. One of the few plus points of the Souness era (other being Fowler's arrival). He never did get that goal... remember him smashing the post against Leeds.

Feel abit for Kelly.. hasnt really put a foot wrong, but Johnson coming back means there aint really room for him at the minute.

A center defensive partnership of Terry and Ferdinand would leak goals left, right and center. He's not in the England squad because he's well past his best.

He won't admit it, but Hodgson is looking to WC'14 by bringing in these younger players.  When given the chance he's brought through younger talent.  Chamberlain as part of the original squad, then Henderson for lampard, now Kelly for Cahill.  Kelly is a great all-around footballer, I hope he takes his chance but no matter what the outcome he'll get invaluable big tournament experience.

although i can see why the likes of ferdinand might be upset i can also see what hodgson is doing.
the fact that martin has come right through the england ranks as a centre half including at U21 level its obvious as crim cram has already said that hodgson has one eye on the future.
unless there is a horrendous injury crisis kelly wont play, hodgson has took loads of defenders (probably too many defenders and not enough forwards imo but that is roy all over) so martin is there mainly to gain big tournament experience.
