Reina

Finnan          Carra         Arbeloa       Aurelio

Benayoun     Sissoko     Mascherano   Babel

                   Kuyt       Crouch

As you maybe can tell, my interest lie elsewhere than the CL this season. I realise that qualifying is important but finishing top of the group is not a priority THIS SEASON. That team should be good enough while giving Gerrard, Torres and Hyypia a breather for the more important (to me) fixtures coming up.

Torres must start in all the coming games to have any chance of winning all of them. There are many ways to rest him and that includes replacing him during the 2nd half etc when the damage would have been inflicted by El Nino. Hyypia will have problems against Cisse's pace but this is when the LB does the covering and the man to do it - Arbeloa. My team against Marseille:

                   Reina
  Finnan    Carra    Hyppia   Arbeloa
  Pennant   Mash  Gerrard   Benayoun
            Torres
                         Crouch

That looks about right to me.  Perhaps Riise for Aurelio - he has just come back from injury - and we haven't see Voronin for a while, so perhaps we'll see Voronin and Crouch up front together again?

Looking at the games we've got coming up, I'd be happy to see Gerrard and Torres on the bench for this one.  If you insist on rotating them Rafa, do it against Marseilles.

Hello lads
This is a Marseille fan speaking.
Marseille have been undergoing very hard times lately. An abominably poor start in the French championship, 11 players proving unable to play as a team (no team spirit), such a situation inevitably leading to a change of coach : Albert Emon was replaced by Eric Gerets one week ago exactly. Of course it will have been absolutely impossible for Gerets to make things better at such short notice before coming to Anfield. Marseille getting one point next Wednesday would be an extraordinary result, not to mention victory, totally out of reach. We Marseille fans just hope our players will show more pride and dignity than it has been the case recently. One of you mentions the name of Samir Nasri as THE player to keep an eye on. Nasri has been pinpointed as "The new Zidane". He is a very talented player indeed. Unfortunately for Marseille and very luckily for LFC, Nasri won't be able to play next Wednesday game, he's currently trying to recover from serious illness in a Marseille hospital.
The odds are definitely against Marseille.
LFC 3  -  OM 0 : such a result would be no surprise.
Thanks for your attention, and let everyone enjoy a great game.

I'd go for something similar, might even agree with starting the giraffe. It is a game we must win mind, to qualify we'll need 10 points and 9 should come from home games. But Rafa has pretty much already tried to win the Porto away game so who knows what he is thinking. I suspect he favours the Champions League, a lot easier to win and it justifies his rotation policies. If we end potless having focused everything on the Premiership he won't have any excuses, if we reach a final he'll have that to focus on.

Anyone care to venture a prophecy on what will happen if we're in the title race with a few games to go and heading for another Champions League final? Will he rest players or be compelled to play a full strength side in both competitions?

Welcome to the forum Josip. And thankyou for approaching with respect.

Hopefully Nasri will recover soon enough from his virus, an outstanding prospect he is for sure. Im certain Marseille will make a good account of themselves on Wednesday at Anfield...although not too good hopefully! It will be nice to see Cisse and Zenden again also, if selected.
Anyway, enjoy the game and more importantly any discussion leading up to and beyond it in here.

Thanks for your friendly post red37, and for your invitation to take part in any discussion about next Wednesday's game. If you lads have any questions about Marseille, it will be a pleasure for me to answer, if I can of course.   :)

St Mike, thought the second was a straight Red, maybe that's why.

I'd like to see;

Reina
Pirrie Labour Club 1976 Bill Shankly Prize giving at local ABA Championships.

"You've been booked in to do a three round exhibition bout tonight Bill."

yeah not to bad that team but.....

I think we should allow babbel to play up front next to Torres to give him a chance of being our second striker to Torres i know he has pace too but he can't be worse than the other strikers.
