Gerrard to have op - out for 2 weeks (atleast) - How would you setup formations now?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

If this is true - then it has definitely come at the wrong time for us, especially since we are grinding out much needed results despite poor performances.

How would we balance our midfield?

El-Zhar should be given a run of games on the right. I'd assume that Lucas would try to fill the hole that Gerrard leaves us with, in an attempt to provide similar support, that is - if we stay with a 4-4-2.

On one hand, I'm not too keen on a 4-2-3-1 at the moment, especially since Keane hasn't yet sorted his role within the team. On the other hand, this might be the opportunity for him to roam in that supporting role and provide the link-up play in our attack.

I'd be keen to hear your thoughts.

Bad timing for us..... I'd have to say

                    Reina

Arbeloa  Carra  Agger/Skrtel   Aurelio/Dossena

        Xabi  Lucas  Masch

Keane                          Babel/Reira
                Torres

bad news as gerrard is definitely a matchwinner... but it's not all doom and gloom... better to get gerrard's injury problem sorted out, recover and have him fire on all cylinders for the rest of the season. We will need him more and more as the season progresses... besides we have quality players to cover the CM in alonso, masch and lucas... and it might also spur the rest of the players on as they now have to step up and can't rely on their captain anymore... if we can show that we can win games with gerrard, we're in with a good shout for the title challenge...

Timing could have been better, with the four easier games just gone and a few testers on the way. I think we may revert to just Torres up front and bring in Mascherano and Lucas, something like ruskiy playmaker's midfield & attack line-up.

I think Keane did enough last night to convince me his transfer fee shouldn't guarantee him a place even on the bench. Turning point of the game? El Zhar coming on

I agree about trying Babel out on the right.

england abuse gerrard anyway by making him have to fit in with fat frank. when they start putting gerrard first and drop that fat kunt then they can complain about his absence

and he came on and played on the right mate and he changed the game, that should tell you how ineffective the right was before he came on. i think the lad deserves a spell in the team
