Due to the fact that August 31 lands on a Sunday, and so in keeping with guidelines and as well as several requests, the transfer window was extended to midnight on Monday, September 1st.

31st landed on a sunday so you get the monday as well.
Parry going to be so gutted he has to do some work tomorrow, thats at least we hope he does, he proberly thinks that it closed and he`s managed once again to not bring in Rafa`s targets. C.nt.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

I wouldn't be surprised to see this deal go tits up today. Why has it been left until the last minute??
This could be Simao mk II, except I don't think people will be threatening to riot in Barcelona because Espanyol are selling Riera :D .

Scraped through to the group stages of the CL on Wednesday, suddenly the Riera deal is going through between then and the following Monday......................  :D

i think this is an important one tbh, an attacking left sided player will (should) give us alot more balance and let the other players who are currently either filling in the position or being shifted around to compensate more freedom to play their natural games

Liverpool have confirmed the deadline day signing of Spanish winger Albert Riera from Espanyol.
The Reds have beaten off competition from Premier League opposition to secure the 26-year old on a four year contract.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is thrilled to have landed the former Espanyol man and is confident his new recruit will have no problems in adapting to life in Premier League football.

"Riera has the qualities we were looking for," said Benitez. "He's a left footer who normally plays on the left wing, he's good in the air, strong, powerful and a good crosser of the ball.

"He's the kind of player we have been talking about. He can beat players and get good deliveries into the area for our strikers.

"We've known about him for a long time, since he was at Mallorca and then through his career with Bordeaux, Manchester City and Espanyol.

"He can talk English and of course he knows the Premier League, which is a big bonus. Usually foreign players need time when they go to a new country, but Riera already knows the league and the style of football

He also had offers from other English clubs but he said no to them because he wanted to come and play for us. That means a lot to me because it shows the commitment he has to play for Liverpool."

Riera will wear squad number 11 at Anfield

While Man City chase Berbatov and Villa.

Oh the irony of it all :) Given that he did play on loan with them for a while and they opted not to pursue.

BUT .. I wish the lad well and hope his arrival will resolve the left flank issue, once and for all.

Welcome Riera. Be proud to wear that red-shirt and don't go about diving too much !!!
