i hope this lad comes good because so far this season we've been crying out for a player who gives us some width. Every time our midfielders get on the ball they look up and see 4 players lined up along the 18 yard line. This means we're limited in attack and vulnerable to counter attacks. We need natural wide players who can get decent supply to our strikers and can get back and give the midfield a dig out. Not 4 strikers standing in a space where you could throw a blanket over them and they've no space, can only get on the ball with their back to goal and as a result cannot make chances.
Steve Gerrard Gerrard,
He'll pass the ball 40 yards,
He's quick and he's f*cking hard,
Steve Gerrard Gerrard.

Their team is slowly looking better and better though and they could potentially have the best squad outside the top 4 if they go ahead with the signings theyv been linked to.. Ronaldo, Joe, Elano, Petrov, SWP, Hamann, Corluka, Richards, Dunne, Kompany, Zabaleta.. i even rate Harte in goal ffs. Give them a couple of years and maybe a couple more signings and i think everyone will be talking about ManCity. Anyways back to Riera... Can anyone see him starting in any of the top sides:

Arsenal - Rosicky, Nasri - no
Chelsea - hehe - no
Manutd - NO
Tottenham - DosSantos, Bentley - no
Villa - Young - no
Everton - probably yes but then again why are they in this list anyways
Portsmouth - Krankjar - no
Blackburn - Pederson - no
ManCity - Petrov - no
Middlesbrough -Downing - no
Newcastle - umm new guy seems very good - no

Meaning there are atleast 11 teams in the league that have better left wingers and wouldnt have Riera in their starting lineups... makes you wonder what our ambitions for this season are signing average players who will most likely offer us little in terms of having an edge over other premier league teams.. because end of the day, thats what it is all about.

Before anyone starts talking about giving him a chance and him not yet kicking a ball. I do hoppe he does well for us and turns out to be the next Ronaldo but just cant see it happening. I have seen him play a few times for Espanyol and he hasnt imprssed me at all. Plays like Duff on one of his OFF days ... Can think of atleast 10 wingers or so who would have been in our price range and would have been better players to get imo.. and i dont think that splitting the money we were going to offer Barry into two and getting 2 average players instead of just going for one top winger was a smart move at all if that turns out to be the case. We already have players who can play in all different positions the only problem is that they are quite simply.. not good enough

Petrov is very overated and you forgot Michael Johnson who's one of the best prospects in england.

I'm not sure Chelsea would have sold SWP to us - they can pick and choose who
they sell to.

I got no problem with Rafa buying unknown players, so long as they have the quality to play here. Look how many unknown players have turned into stars at Arsenal. Their kids ran rings around our first team on our home ground ffs!

Anyway I hope he turns out good.

Yeah one minute unknown and the next everyone knows everything about him and he's getting his fu'ck kicked out for being nowhere near good enough! :D

I dont see why anyone has a problem in giving him a chance.Considering our two major options on the left are both consistantly poor(Babel and Benayoun) I really fail to see how anyone has a problem.
He's a natural left sided player something we at present dont have,he would need to be very very poor in his position to be any worse than those two out there!
Then people are complaining we have missed out on SWP when we are much more in need of someone for the left. Why the fu'ck would we sign SWP when we have more options for the right and our left is far more in need of being filled?

I really dont think half the ones on here that are moaning about this guy know anything about him,its the fact that they know nothing about him that they are moaning about as opposed to being clued into his ability or lack of it!
I wonder if hypothetically we went back a lot of years and there was a virtually unknown defender on his way called Sami Hyypia and we were on here at that time.I bet the same ones would be moaning saying he was gonna be cr@p and crying their lamps out as usual....How wrong they would have been?
Now I am not saying for a second that this guy will turn out a legend like Sami but what i am saying is that he deserves a chance because it looks like hes gonna be wearing the shirt pretty soon and all the tears and rants in the world won't change that!
FFS give the fella a chance of a few games before he gets judged and executed!

Johnson is def. a great prospect for the future and i think he'll soon be snapped by one of the top teams. As for Petrov being overrated i actually think hes pretty underrated. He's been great for them last season scoring 5 goals and making 10 assists in the league. He can go past his man, cross the ball and has a good shot on him. By far their most important player up the pitch (now Elano is the more overrated of the two if you ask me). Anyways they signed him for 4.5 mill which was def. a bargain and if had paid double that to get him i would have thought it was good business...

As for your point LFC2007 i really dont have an answer to that but if you dont rate him then fair enough .. you have your opinion and i have mine.
