The only problem with that is Gerrard has never been the most tactically disciplined of players. He's generally poor at tracking runners and often loses his man

I've seen that other posters have mentioned this as well, and although he won't be as useful there as he used to be few years ago, I think it's worth a try. He might not be as powerful and explosive as he was but he's still got the creativity and vision and he's a far better option than playing Aspas behind the strikers. With Coutinho out, it might be ideal to try this against Southampton and see how it goes. I'm also curious to see how a midfield of Henderson and Lucas would look like.

That's even worse if he's in central midfield. That's why I think Henderson would do good at CM especially when we're defending and chasing players.

I think Lucas used to play as an attacking mid. Benitez used him there and I thought he looked natural. With Hendo beside him, Lucas might save energy too. I think Gerrard played deeper too a few times, and he's much older now, so to your concern Greavsie, who knows? Others have adapted the role to conserve energy in their later years, including John Barnes of all people.

It doesn't matter where you use Gerrard or Lucas or Henderson. It doesn't hide the fact Gerrard is the only one who is good enough in that midfield.

Lucas and Henderson are't upto it. Never have been, never will be.

But Stevie is 33 not 23, and he is gonna start disappearing in games, as time goes by and he gets older. More prone to injury, legs wont last 90 mins etc etc.
Age slows everyone, all sports people, and he is no different.

We could do with a quality replacement soon. :p

Was hoping there'd be an academy player learning from SG this year. For the money spent on transfers and invested in youth, we might have hoped to see some younger players getting a look in.

What's Coady like from the reserves?

Isn't this kid Hughes from Derby supposed to be a Gerrard-esque type player? That's what all the rumours are saying...
He looks like he should be out on his bike, he's that baby faced. :)

I think Henderson has the potential, but needs to add more to his game.

hendo has the ability, just needs to realise it and just go for it now and then. can definately play in stevies place but whether he will ever be as good as him is another thing.
he has greatly improved from when he signed, so if he continues in that vein then who knows!!

Must have misread your post, thought you were suggesting to move Gerrard higher up the pitch.

Brilliant... so now we've gone from drop him Gerrard's Sh*t/too old/ Lucas is better to now saying Henderson "has the potential" to replace him?

What a f*cking joke!! Henderson is dog average and I very much doubt if any other team in top 10/15 would look at him.

Like vision, passing ability, heading ability, tackling, anticipation, shooting, positional sense and speed?

Don't waste your breathe Stu, there's a lot who seem to think that replacing a player like Gerrard is as simple as picking peaches from a tree.
