So, for us, it is about getting players in who are hungry to succeed and to pull on the shirt.

In some ways he is right, but its the top clubs like liverpool that have turned football into a game of who offers more money. We should not complain about a situation we helped create. If we are serious about getting back to the top we just have to accept that it costs a lot of money in player wages, and yes players should have a right to negotiate for their wages just as any other employee. The only other solution would be to radically change the financial aspect of the premier league and make it more about the sport again. I dont see that happening as the big clubs like liverpool would resist any change that would make the gap between the big and smaller clubs smaller.

Side swipe.

Its just letting agents know that we wont be pulled around, and they wont be getting away with high fees,.

you make a good point mate, we often forget that during our halcyon days we often spent big and blew everyone else out of the water. we are one of the clubs that helped shape this modern game where greed rules.
we often broke the british transfer record (sending transfer fee`s higher and higher), we were the first british club to have advertising on our shirts and along with spurs and everton we were one of the main clubs pushing for the formation of a breakaway premier league back in the late 80`s.
the formation of the premier league was really the end of english football as a sport, the formation of the prem was really the top 20 clubs saying to all the other clubs throughout the land`f##k you we are keeping all the money for ourselves`.
it was thatcherism meets football and the end game is being played out now - we have exorbitant ticket prices (which have by and large drove out the working class), kick off times dictated by t.v companies, stadiums that resemble shopping malls, stadiums with no atmosphere, players who`s only thought is `whats in it for me?`, parasitical agents who earn millions, billionaire owners who can turn also rans into the richest club in the world with a swipe of a pen and clubs not giving a sh1.te about the man in the street but fawning over corporate clients.
the one big positive to come out of the modern game is health and safety

People talk a lot about man-management and in truth it it (for the most part) speculation becausde we don't get to see what goes on behind closed doors however, it has been good to see a couple of players (Enrique and Downing) come back into some form after both players got a bit of a blast in public (at least twice for Downing) from the manager. Enrique looked done and dusted at the club and yet now he is playing his best football at the club (a tall order given how impressive he was for the first 3 months of last season) and dare we say it, whisper it even, does Stew Downing have a future at LFC after all. The lad has been showing a it of form just recently. Watch this space.....

You have hit the nail on the head here dude.

Modern football resembles not even a shell of what the game looked like 20-30 years ago. The sad thing is I can only see it becoming worse and worse if something isn't done soon.

Let's be honest here, some supporters will never accept Rodgers here and a certain supporter on this forum who is stuck in a 1970's time warp is still bitter that Kenny was sacked last summer.

We could win the FA Cup and the Europa League this season and some supporters still won't give Rodgers any praise or respect.

I've got mixed feelings on Daniel Sturridge, there's times where he looks really good and there's times where he plays like dog excrement. He's inconsistent for my liking, that's something he needs to work on. Though last season when he played on a regular basis under Di Matteo he was arguably Chelsea's best player. My main worry is that we are signing a youngster who isn't an out-and-out goal scorer. We need someone who can score goals. 38 goals in 140 appearances is not prolific enough for my liking. 12 games and 2 goals is not much better than the goal return of Andy Carroll who has 1 goal in 9 appearances.

Erm.......... Fulham didn't turn up, which is probably why Downing looked "up for it"
