Brendan Rodgers thread (signs extended contract)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

you people better start accepting the fact that we are a team in transition and rebuilding phase and it will be a very good job by Rodgers to repeat the same finish last season. We outplayed man united for long stretches with 10-man... when did that happen last time? I like how Rodgers is building the team...

We are a mid table team trying to get back to greatness. However we are struggling badly because 1) we are not buying the league, and 2) Alex Ferguson.

1) Man City, Chelsea, Man United, all these teams have one thing in common, MONEY. They can go out and sign the best players out there. If a top player is on the market, one of these three clubs will sign him.

2) Alex Ferguson. The hold he has over referees is there for all to see. We see Fergy time, we see penalties given when a blind man has a better judgement, we see the blatant bias the FA has towards Man United, and yet nothing is ever done about it. We laugh at the italians for the corruption in their league, and yet not one member of the media circlet dares to question Alex Ferguson. Doesnt that speak volumes for itself?

Liverpool are competing in a league where money and influence talks, and Liverpool have neither. When Ferguson retires, some balance may be restored, or, it may be shifted.

Brendan to me so far only knows how to talk well and no points to show for. True, we can play good possession and attacking football making our opponents look like novice for long spells but if we cannot score and win the game, you will still be relegated. I would rather be like manure where they play lousy football but can still end up with 3 pts at the end of the day. One thing I don't understand about him is, why did he let A.C. leave without a replacement?  If we had Kuyt and Bellamy in the United game, things could have been different and he didn't find replacements for those 2 either. Why was he so thick?

If we're still where we are now by January, forget about signing a quality striker, no renown striker will want to come to a side that is fighting relegation, they are after CL football. Even if we can get one to please the crowd, he will be another overpriced dud like A.C. Just face the fact that the players we have in the last game will always struggle to score. We need an Owen/Fowler/Rushie who can put away the chances created. The only solution we might have in overcoming our scoring problem is not to look at the transfer window but look at the youth, maybe guys like Wisdom and Yesil in particular could come out good and I would love to see Yesil given a chance in the first team. I know he's only 18 years young, but Owen made his debut at 18 and Rooney made his Everton debut at 16.

I have really lowered my expectations now, not lowered to finish in top 7 but lowered to avoid a drop to championship football which will make world headlines in the soccer world. Brendan can sugarcoat the problems we have now, but if we don't start winning and climbing up the table, I'll be happy if we can just finish 4th from bottom.

I have never lowered my expectations when it comes to Liverpool, and I have supported them all my life.

I guess this speaks more for todays supporter than the people I grew up with.

Agree with AF comment - and not many in the media speak of it because they are cowards!

Well when Benitez made his comments regarding Mr Ferguson the media hounded on him (Benitez) like a pack of hyenas. Mr Ferguson can do no wrong in the eyes of the media or his club for that matter.

Owen was 17 when he was offered a professional contract and went straight into Evans's senior squad.

He's doing a satisfactory job at the moment - however we need to start getting wins under our belt. We've got matches against Norwich, Stoke, Reading and Everton coming up over the next month and we really need to be taking a maximum of 12 points here to really push on. Sandwiched in between those we've got matches against West Brom, Udinese and Azhi.
