Well I'm happy seeing him doing so well with England

I have mixed feelings
I am glad that he has been made permanent captain and is quite rightly seen as the best english player of his and most other generations. To be free from the shackles of the likes of lampard and Barry, beckham and ferdinand and finally allowed to play to his strengths must feel like he has died and gone to heaven. It fully vindicates our belief that he is without doubt the heartbeat of the english footballing family and the most talented man ever seen in an english jersey. That he is the Captain of LFC and a scouser only makes me even more proud and justifies my feeling of superiority to all these flag waving cockney w@nkers.
The downside is if he gets injured and that fu'cks up or season, which is far more important than this or any other international tournament

Personallly, as a scouser and an Englishman, I am delighted for Stevie. For too many years he has been shunted around the park to accommodate for lesser players. Now, he finally has his chance to stamp his mark on the England team and he is doing it with a plunder.

If you are a Liverpool fan, then of course, be concerned for his safety but we should be proud to see one of our own making his mark on the international stage as one of the world's all time greats.

I certainly don't want to spend next season annoyed because Gerrard is injured again.

That's a risk any player takes when playing international football; it's not just Gerrard taking the risk. Carroll's suffered serious injuries, so has Agger, Skrtel and a host of others, but you don't hear people calling for them to quite playing international football. Even those who don't have a history of injury problems are taking an extra risk because of the extra exertion they are placing on their bodies. Gerrard's suffered badly with injuries recently but that's in the past. As of now, he's looking fit and healthy and having a storming tournament with England. In short, there is no obvious cause for concern that by playing a few games for England, he is placing himself at an undue risk of injury that could shorten his club career. Even so, if there is some risk, I am happy to respect his wishes to play for his country, because that's the nature of football.

Obviously if you don't support England, despite living in England and supposedly being a member of UK armed forces, then that's up to you but Gerrard does and we should respect his wishes, not castigate him as being some seflish so-and-so who's putting his club career on the back burner. The logical conclusion to your argument is that no Liverpool player should ever play international football because the extra game time increases the risk of injury. That's b0llocks and if Gerrard were on here he'd no doubt tell you the same.

How the hell can you say his injuries are in the past ?! He has hardly played for 3 seasons for his club ffs and is 32 now - its not like he has years left on his career.

You want a perfect example go and look at Paul Scholes - retired from International to prolong his club career and still going strong.

Just because I live in England and work in the Forces doesn't mean I have to support England - no way would I want a team that have first class ***** like Rooney or Cole or Terry to win anything nor could I ever cheer them on.

I'm sick and tired of our best players coming back from Internationals ***** and out of games for Liverpool.

I agree about the risk of injury, I'm not supporting England in the euros but I'm glad he is showing his class and getting the recognition he deserves.

I wouldn't let any individual or group of individuals get in the way of my support for Liverpool, and the same applies to my support of England, because both club and country sit above that. The alternative would be like you choosing not to enter the armed forces because you abhorred the politicians making the decisions about the future of defence. You presumably draw some kind of separation between the two that enables you to do your job. Likewise, none of us completed halted our support of the club, whether in spirit or practice, when G&H took charge because the club consists of much more than its legal owners. At its heart, it consists of a set of traditions and common values as supporters. Pursue your line of reasoning, though, and we have to start questioning every aspect of the personal lives of LFC players to determine what sort of characters they are, before we can decide whether to support the club. We don't, though, because as I said, the club sits above all that. That's why I support England, even though I dislike some of the characters in the team.

I'm not really supporting anyone Reg, just watching it as a neutral, but of course I have preferences, I would love to see Gerrard holding the Euro trophy, he deserves to carry something heavy again! I wanted Denmark to do well.

Well put. Although as long as the ego's have been picked ahead of the talent with regards to the England squad, this year I am proud to support England as our club are having a massive influence. Gerrard is having a blinder and looking as good as ever, Carrol has been brilliant whenever he has been on the pitch and Johnson is finally looking like a defender. I don't like many of the characters in the team, Terry, Lampard, Beckham, Ferdinand, hell, lets even include Rooney. They don't deserve to be in the England team, they have done nothing to belong there. Gerrard has missed out for so long because of the egos, and now he is the main man, and he is showing his worth.

I worry about Gerrard's fitness because of his more recent injury record and the fact he's on the wrong side of 30 - simply because he's still one of our best players.

However, I have no qualms with him playing international football at an international tournament, it's the pointless friendlies thrown in at the early stage of every season that do my head in because our players do usually end up injured playing in them. It's a real pain in the @rse, I see England have a friendly lined up with Italy in August FFS, that's annoying.

But I cannot begrudge Gerrard or any other player who wants to play at an international  tournament - and tbf he's given this club everything for over a decade now and still hasn't won a title. And he's still one of our better players at 32. I think he'll end up being the best premiership player to have never won a title, the Jimmy White of football.

But presumably the players want to play for England, shouldn't that overrule your petty objections? Also is there not the fact that players grow by being involveled at the international level, and better players surely mean a better team.

You've had nothing comparable to say about Gerrard's performances for England, only pathetic criticisms of his decision to play for his country.
