what makes you think that? to me it looks like he's playing well within himself in a more disciplined, deep lying role that he's been given. there's still plenty of time to rest before the serious footy starts again.

He is dying on his feet at the end of each game - he is an injury ravaged 32 year old who has hardly had a run of games in the last 3 years. He is going all out for this tournament for England . He isn't as bad as Owen in terms of putting country before club but it gets close at times.

For a guy who's been 'dead on his feet' at the end of three games now he doesn't half look like a top player. Not only has he proven his ability, as if it needed proving, to maintain his defensive discipline and carry out his defensive duties effectively as one of a midfield two, he's just about had a hand in every goal England have scored and has created even more with some exellent through balls and crosses. Following an injury plagued season where he didn't play many games, and in which many doubted him, this has to be a good sign for us all and yet people still have something negative to say. It really is pathetic. One of these days, these numpties will realise just what a great player he is.

Who is saying he isnt a great player ?

Yes he has been injury ravaged - for us - his club. That is where the priority lies not with England.

It actually annoys me to see him playing 3 games in a row and play well when he has hardly done it for a couple season for the team that matters.

No, you're right. He's only been our best player of the past 20 years. He's only dragged out of the sh!t in European Cup and FA Cup finals. He's only put in match winning performances on hundreds of occasions. Other than that, we've NOT seen him play anything like as well as he has in an ENGLAND shirt and we should ALL be annoyed about it.  :)

I meant the last two years as I stated in my earlier post.

Stop trying to make out that I'm saying something that I'm clearly not.

He has hardly done anything for us in the last 2 seasons because he has hardly played so yes it does annoy me to see him fit for England .

So you would like to see him injured for England, i think people need to stop being so selfish.

Steven Gerrard has been given a huge honour and i find it incredulous that people are annoyed about this, this is a guy that has given everything for liverpool and will continue to do so.
He will have my support 100% while he captains his country, we should all watch on and be inspired and proud about  he is doing at international level.

Where did I state I want him injured for England !?!?

I want him retired from International to concentrate on the club that pays his wages and the club i support !! I am a Liverpool supporter not an England supporter - all I care about is my club not fecking England.

That's exactly how i feel mate.

Made up for him so far, and no matter what happens from here he personally can be proud of what he has played like so far.

He has also helped me be interested in England playing again...just  :D

Spot on, Redtribe/Ben. He's a Liverpool player and any Liverpool player playing for their country should have our support, especially our captain who's not had it easy with injuries of late. It's not about 'supporting England'; it's about supporting Gerrard and being pleased to see him have a really good tournament so far, whatever that means for the England team. As for Benny, you seem anything but annoyed to see Carroll playing well and proving himself on a big stage like the Euros -- despite the fact that he plays for England --  but for some reason you have a different rule for our captain. This seems to be a recurring theme with you.

Recurring theme ?! What utter tripe

Gerrard - Liverpool captain - spent the last 2/3 seasons struggling for fitness and injury playing for his club - coming towards the latter years of his career with a body that is broken because of various injuries - I want to get the best final years out of him at his club not his country - I don't want to see him putting all his energy into England over the summer then have him suffer from it during the season and we once again for the 4th season in a row only see our best player for a handful of games - selfish because I want to see him doing it for his club.

So you can explain the recurring theme if you want - I think he is second greatest player to have played at the club.

Carroll - has spent 18 months struggling for the club in terms of fitness and form and finally started to get form for his club and then the season ended so its good to see him continue to grow in confidence so once again Liverpool reap the benefits - he is also only 23 and hasn't got a body that his falling apart.

I'm a Liverpool fan and I want the best for my club and I actually want to see our captain fit for the majority of the season.

I spent years watching Owen struggle with injuries only to watch him be fit for England and then struggle again for his club.

I certainly don't want to spend next season annoyed because Gerrard is injured again.

You can tell Stevie has always really wanted to win something with England, or at least press really far and do well in a tournament, and he's wanted to captain England.  He finally has that chance, and despite the fact that I'd much rather he retire from international football and just focus on the club, I feel that he really does deserve this for what he's done for our club.
