United were up for the game BIG TIME.
What with Rio returning and coming so close to geting their ****** whupped in Lyon the other night there was only one way they were gonna play.
Now lets put this into context, in the first half we were ****** poor and lucky to come off only 1 down. However in the second half there were plenty of occasions when we made them look plain ordinary.
Remember what Rafa says :- we are taking small steps.
I saw things out there that encouraged me, I mean who on the pitch passed the ball better than Alonso? When we did decide to play a little,  our tempo and ball retention were better than at most times last season.
Now also consider that for as badly as we have played, we lost to two goals that were given away by VERY poor defending.
Yes Utd had other chances but considering that they were buoyed by having their asses burnt by Fergie and Rio's return and a poor 1st half by us it was not that bad.
We got beat (fairly and deservedly) but keep the faith, there are good times to come.

To be fair, it was really a bad bad display of football that LFC dished out. We are really discouraged by our own players that, in a match of the month, a match that millions watch around the world, liverpool was ran over by a team at its worst form. I really cannot accept that kind of sub-standard display.

Guys, its not about me slagging the team. I have no intentions for that. But its how I feel that the team did not perform at all. The coach is not to blame. He plays a tactic. The players play to the tactic. It could have work but the will to play throws all of Benitez plans down the drain. We are just like Real Madrid, not playing to the fullest potential!

I pray that we start to put in good performances and grew from experience that complacency must never set in even if you are in top form. What we fans want is just a good performance by the team we support.

Come on, guys and gals.
The boys had a bad game, surely they are entitled to have a bad game or two in a long season. We have 11 players on the field and a few reserves, the normal rationalisation is surely they can't be playing badly at the same time? Well, sometimes these things happen.

After the recent highs, we are knocked back down to earth and reality. We realise that we have yet to bridge the quality gap between us and arsenal, chelski and perhaps manure. manure probably psyched themselves up to beat us and try to kick start their season.

The important thing is to immediately bounce back in the very next game and get a win and continue from there. Most of you were really behind Rafa recently, we should stick behind him now. As I have said in several threads, I am very concerned about us having a consistent run of results, and until that can be achieved, we can only dream about the title. It is still early days, Liverpool have shown good playing progress under Rafa, apart form this and the Bolton game. There is still much work to be done. Let's just get on with it...

Liverpool didn't play badly. It was their strategy that worked well. They dragged us to a level that Liverpool hasn't gained. Their style of play last evening demands a high fluidity - definitely a deadly style for a team with most of the parts of the engine are new. You can't be in such level of fluidity if you haven't been in the same team for a long time. You can't play in a telephatical interaction with the other players if you just arrived yesterday.

Manure spent the most out of their energy to employ this tactic to be only exhausted in the second half (the obvious consequence). Second half actually belonged to us if we're not to far from the fortunate.

This might not have worked well for Manure if we had been with the old soldiers (Murphy, Owen, etc. who would have been in a better fluidity than our current squad (but Manure might not also have employed the same tactic if we had been with the old team). I know there's no point in bringing in any 'if', but this is only to contrast my point of view.

Credit for bustad alex for inventing this tactic. This should also work well for Manure to face other team with new arrival players such as Chelsea.

So, i think it's a well deserved defeat to be taken advantage of.

I didn't watch the game cause in different time zone but reading this whole thread gave me some idea and thoughts about our team. It just sounded like some of the old problem still exist. Lacking consistency is always our trademark the last couple of years. Its really difficult to attain the level Arsenal is in. They are focused and the confidence level is high but for us, we still have a long way. We just don't seems to be on the same page every game. I have no question on the skill we have on our team but it seems certain players lacking the mental attribute of being tough enough to ride it out or wanting bad enough to win. They just seems wanting to look up for someone on the field when they are down. Well, I have to be honest that I expected us to beat ManU last night because we always played good against them the last couple of years but I was wrong. I'm sure they are all beating themselves and hopefully this loss will reunit them as a team and not distance from one another.
