Birmingham Mail are reporting that we turned down £9m bid that was made last night WTF!!!!!!!!!

apparently Rafa wants atleast £12m according to the report!!!!

£9m we should of snapped their hand off, I'd personally wade through the snow & piggy back him all the way there myself for that price!!!

If true we can now declare officially that Rafa has lost the plot or been told that he won't be getting any of the cash so there is no point in selling, actually that sounds like the most plausable resoning to me!!!!!
Shankly on boardroom meetings - 'At a football club, there's a holy trinity - the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don't come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques.'

I think Rafa could have played him more. We are crying out for a genuine wingman who has pace and Rafa instead chooses to use others who are less qualified for the role. Yes Babel has let the team down on occasion but, has never been given a fair crack imho.

Birmingham, hmm, I don't know, why sell him to a club so close to us in the table?  :p

Seriously thoough, I'd get the Maxi deal sorted quick before selling Babel so that Atletico don't get any ideas about trying to get any money out of us saying "well they've just sold Babel so maybe we can get a coulple of million and not lose Maxi for nothing."

Aside from that, pounce on the chance to get 8 million for him.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

I doubt he would agree to a move to Birmingham anyway.

From The Mirror

Liverpool turn down £9m Birmingham bid for strike star

Liverpool have turned down an £9million bid from Birmingham for Ryan Babel.

The Anfield club received the offer last night, but immediately insisted that the price falls well short of their valuation of around £12million for the Dutch international.

The Liverpool striker is keen to leave Liverpool, after making clear his frustration at a lack of first team opportunities since his arrival from Ajax two years ago.

But Benitez wants to recoup the £12million he paid for Babel, and the player himself is still keen to move to a club with Champions League prospects.

-------

CHL is right  - Babel would prob turn them down anyway...

But we turned down £9Million for Babel ???

Can't believe he would turn it down. He isn't even in the team!
That's a fair offer in my opinion.

Wouldn't you think that with the apparent financial desperation we are in that we'd jump at that figure for Babel.?

Like most on here I would take a hit on Babel and accept £6m - £7m and I cannot believe we turned down £9m

But if Brum come back in with a higher offer then this is a master stroke by Rafa

Can only assume the manager has been told he won't be able to spend the money (at least until the summer) raised for any January sales otherwise he'd bite Birmingham's hands off, surely? If it's been rejected because Rafa wants to keep the player (that he never uses) then it's total folly.

It's one thing after another this season. It's just one big cluster f...u...c...k  :(

I believe Babel may have become a good player with a little more understanding from Rafa but Rafa is never gonna be a "put your arm round them" manager. He is very stand offish with everone from what you here.

However I do also find Babel very fustrating. I played as a winger for many years, only Sunday football level but it still gives you some appreciation. I was a right footed player playing on the left so my tendancy was to come inside but I knew you had to mix it up a little and go on the outside (and that was at that level where my next opponent hadn't scouted my movements!!).

Babel when ever he played was too predictable. What did amaze me that when he did play on the right wing he still mainly came inside (except for the Torres goal cross that everyone talks about).

I think he should have been given more of a chance and maybe moretime upfront but the simple truth is that Rafa doesn't really want him anymore so SELL HIM !!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry, assuming there is any factual basis for the claims. Which is more laughable, turning down £9m for a flop and losing only £2.5m on the player, or valuing him at £12m?!?

If Rafa rates him at £12m, why doesn't he start him more!??! If he's worth £12m how come AURELIO a LB is playing on the left ahead of him!?!?!? How come, at 1-1 against lowly Championship side READING he is an unused sub?!?!? Words not backed up by actions, one of Rafa's many 'fine qualities'. Could of course be a bluff to raise the stakes, but surely if you have a player so under-used as Babel you accept sizeable bids rather than risk the suitors looking elsewhere? £9m in the bank is better than £12m as a price-tag never to be matched. It's like the dubious logic of wanting to accept say £14m than £10.6m because it is the higher bid when it also comes down to whether the player wants to move to the club offering £14m. You can only accept bids on the table, and only then if the player wants to move to that bidding club. We might want to take highest bids, but we can't force the player to do likewise.

EDIT : so even if we accepted a £9m bid from brum, would Babel want to go there? Would the wages be an issue? Perhaps the wages they'd have to offer make a £12m bid unlikely

Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

I was firmly in the "Rafa is out of order for the way he treats Babel" camp. I defended Babels inconsistency and put it down to being Rafa's fault for not giving him an extended run in the starting eleven. I still feel that this is part of the problem.
But Babel has now had chance after chance to say to Rafa "stick that up your exit hole" by coming on or starting and playing like the player we all think he could be. Sadly this is not the case. What we have is a petulant, sulky, apathetic child who, when given the chance cant be ar'sed taking it. People call anelka "le sulk" but I would have him a thousand times rather than Babel.
Will he look back on his Liverpool days with regret thinking "I should have tried harder. I could have been a champion" I very much doubt it. His immaturity will make sure that others are to blame for his under-achievement .
Hopefully, if he does go to Brum, he will continue with his bad attitude and do the same for them as he has done for us...

Fu'ck all!
