Here's my theory on Babel:

He's a confidence player and needs a run of games before he can play well. I think if he got 15-20 starts in a row then he'd be a great player.

Does he deserve 15-20 starts in a row? No! and we can't afford to wait for him either.

As much as I want him to succeed (when on form he's one of the few players we have that can create something out of nothing) he needs to motivate himself pretty sharpish or we're better off with some money for a replacement.

My opinion on Babel is that he is naturally talented and can do some brilliant things with the ball - his pace is his biggest weapon. Does he use it often enough? No. I can't think of many moments where Ryan has got his head down and beat a man then to put some quality into the box.

I still think he is worth keeping however - we don't have the strongest of benches as it is so he is one of the best options to have. Yet I would like him to play a few games in a row. We had the same problem with Jermaine Pennant didnt start enough games both Pennant and Babel are confidence players.

I'd be tempted to play him down the right tonight with Yossi on the other flank both swapping with each other every 10-15 minutes so its giving there weak defence tonight more to worry about.

I don't quite get this confidence player argument. Bammo I'm almost sure you said the same about Keane. Surely sport and confidence go hand in hand and if PL players lack confidence then there is something seriously wrong possibly at managerial level. During my working life I have had to endure many management styles and oddly enough I was at my most successful when I was effectively man managed and given the confidence I needed to perform. Would I be motivated by a boss that likes a pointless rant at the most inopportune time and finds it difficult to raise a smile and enjoy success. POSSIBLY NOT!!

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is continuing to monitor the form of Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez in regards to a January move. The Ajax star has been in superb form in Holland with reports from the Dutch press suggesting a swap deal involving Ryan Babel and £5m will see the creative star move to Anfield.

Suarez has been playing in Holland for the past three and a bit seasons and has consistently scored goals whether playing on the flanks or just behind the main striker. Last season was his best tally so far after scoring 22 goals in 31 league appearances (30 starts). Eight of those 22 goals came via the penalty spot as Suarez finished joint 2nd in the Dutch scoring charts. Despite the Uruguayan’s best efforts, Ajax finished 12 points behind champions AZ and one point behind 2nd placed FC Twente meaning they failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Ajax’s failure to qualify led Suarez to urge the club to bring in new recruits. He told Sportsweek in the summer, “It would definitely be useful for Ajax to sign some quality players. It’s up to the coach to decide on which position we need to strengthen the squad. However, we could use some physically strong players in my opinion.”

“I’m extremely disappointed that we failed to qualify for the Champions League once again. I need to play at top level in order to keep improving as a player.

“Nevertheless, missing out on Champions League football is not just bad for me, but also disastrous for the club. Ajax have to wait yet another year to play at the highest level.”

Liverpool were one of the clubs who were interested in providing the Uruguayan with the ‘highest level’ of football required as Rafa Benitez is a keen admirer. The player’s versatility also interested the Spaniard who was and still is looking to strengthen his squad significantly. However, Barcelona and Manchester United are also reported to be keen and no wonder as Suarez has started the season under new manager Martin Jol incredibly

Man i hope thats true.. Suarez is a classss player. Would be a great little squad player, much better than Babel.

Babel lacks basic football skills such as keeping the ball as well as the intelligence and awareness. We know this as 9 times out of 10 when he has the ball the result is him either giving it away or running into a player, or both. He is way out of his depth at Liverpool and should be sold at the first opportunity.

Thought he was a disgrace tonight, he appears to have given up on the idea of turning things around and just backed out of challenges and in general looked half hearted most of the time.

Would actually row him to holland on a dinghy if i had one at the minute.

I really dont know what to think about Babel... he is not good enough at the moment, an I doubt he ever will be.

We could keep him, but I think we would probably be better off just off-loading him after the world cup.

Best case scenario is he has a fantastic world cup, and we almost get our money back...

Nothing new that we haven't said before about Ryan. The only difference is more time has passed by and he still here.

I would be amazed if he is still here past the summer.
