Well it does take intelligence to be good at football, Babel just seems to run into trouble trying to take players on when there is little chance of it.. he should just be intelligent and go for the better option.

Once you lose the ball and the opposition has it, the only way you can get it back is 1) opposition attempts at goal (2) you work your :censored: off getting it back (3) they scored a goal.
Babel has, lets say, potential but he needs to read the game better and dont give the ball away like charity.

Sure, there are aspects of Babel´s game that he needs to improve but it doesn't take a scientist to play football.
If he can constantly beat his man with pace or skill and get crosses in like he did vs WH he has come some ways.

I just don't want him out left anymore as he isn't ever going to perform out there.

But he cant consitently beat his man and get crosses in - has shown that on lots of occasions in the past .

No because Torres has a good track record against good sides as well as run of the mill PSV sides :-

5 in 6 vs Chelsea
1 in 3 vs the mancs
3 in 5 vs the goners

Or just the small matter of 9 in 14 against the rest of the 'big four'.

My point was you can't claim Babel looks more comfortable on the right on the basis of ONE game against a less than impressive side. Well you can, it just needs a bit more backing evidence than that.

Drpepe - I sincerely doubt Rafa knew PSV would be that ordinary, or that Lucas would boss the game. It was a calculated risk/gamble and it came off. He could do the same in a Carling Cup game and lose 4-2............. fergie took a similar type risk in the semis of the cup last year and lost out to the bitters

Being able run at the defenders, burst past them and deliver a good cross. I find that essential for a player in that role.

He can dream about doing that while he`s on the bench.

He`s cross was a fluke, he didnt look up once. Go watch it, never takes his eyes of the ball, ala milan Baros.

you'll never be happy will you? He did well when he came on , beat his man . Give the lad credit FFS !

Go watch it.

All I`m saying is if he`s doing well being brought on as sub and not well when starting then leave the fecker on the bench.

Babel has showed touches of class at times at Liverpool. I was just want to show it on a consistent basis and show that he can devlop into a great Liverpool player first. I do believe its his attitude that will prove the stumbling block
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Babel has vowed to fight for his place.........

Although...i am not a big fan of babel.....i hope he does well because he could be another match winner for us if Torres, Gerrard and Benayoun have a bad game.

Note to Benitez, if u gonna play babel.....play him upfront or on the right FFS.......and not on the left.....

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news....cc=4716

Ryan Babel has firmly denied ever claiming he was considering leaving Liverpool to join former club Ajax and has vowed to fight for his first-team place under Rafael Benitez.

Ryan Babel has struggled to secure a regular first-team place at Liverpool.

Babel appeared to cast doubt over his long-term future at Anfield when he was quoted as stating at the start of the month that Benitez had broken promises regarding his first-team participation and that he would welcome the chance to join Ajax on loan in January.

However, after making a positive impression as a substitute during Liverpool's 3-2 win over West Ham on Saturday, Babel claims his apparent outburst was the result of a poor piece of translation on the part of the English press.

"I didn't say any of those things," Babel told the club's official website. "I did an interview in Holland and I don't know who in England got hold of it but it was the worst translation I have ever seen.

"The fact is I'm very happy here and I don't want to leave to go anywhere. Yes, there is a lot of competition for places at Liverpool but that's the same at every top club. It was like that when I was at Ajax and that isn't a problem for me. I didn't accuse the manager of anything.

"I heard about what was being reported when I was away with Holland. When I got back to Liverpool I went straight to the manager and told him it wasn't true. He accepted that and there is no problem. Now I just want to concentrate on playing."

While keen to underline his commitment to Liverpool, Babel still has a real fight on his hands to earn a regular place under Benitez in what is a World Cup year and has started just one game for the club so far this season.

Benitez appears to prefer Dirk Kuyt and Albert Riera in wide positions while Fernando Torres occupies the lone striker's role, meaning Babel has been restricted to the bench. However, the Dutchman was encouraged by his cameo against West Ham.

"Before I came on the manager said I needed to bring some energy to the game and that I needed to run at them," Babel said. "I enjoyed it and that will give me some confidence. Now I hope to carry on like this. If I keep working hard then hopefully I can get some more minutes and in the end get a place back in the starting line-up."

Didn't we buy Kuyt when he was a striker ? :O

Wasn't Carra a right back (or was it left back) when he started  playing 1st team football ? :O

So what are u on about ? Just because babel played left winger in a u20 tournament does not mean he can make it playing there in the strongest league in the world. We should play babel to his strengths....

He has a point  :p

I think Babel has a lot of confidence in him at the moment, against West Ham i loved how he had the ball at his feet and would be all calm and barely touch the ball for a few seconds.. then blam! he hits you with his rediculous pace.

Wats also good about him playing on the right is that he feels much more secure taking players on and running down the line rather than being forced to cut inside, and its most common that he gives away possesion when he cuts inside.

Can see him doing good tonight if he plays against Leeds.

what exactly are babels strengths and when does he ever produce them consistently ?! left right up front - anywhere he has played he has disappointed .

Yes we bought kuyt as a striker and he has filled that role numerous times for club and country

Carra started life as a striker as a kid - then broke through into liverpool first team as a dm then played right back left back and cb on numerous occasions until settling on cb .

One of the reasons Babel himself stated how much he enjoyed playing on left in previous interviews was it enabled him to cut inside and shoot .

I think Babel enjoys playing on the left of a front 3 - as he did in Holland - because it gives him feedom to do what he wants. No defensive responsibility and he can drift inside if he likes.

That doesn't work for us. Here he needs to be disciplined and track back, something he hasn't yet shown enthusiasm for. At Ajax he would pick the ball up out wide and run for goal. For us his job is to take it down the line which invariably means he's stuck on his much weaker foot

He has power and pace, as well as a decent shot on him. If he applies himself properly and works hard to take his chance in the first team then he could come good, be that on the right or in the centre (behind Torres etc). (Disclaimer: before anyone freaks out I'm not saying to drop Gerrard!).

He needs to motivate himself like Kuyt does. Most people would bust a gut if they were even picked for the reserves so it amazes me that players take their fortune at being professionals for granted. I bet they'd all try hard if their basic wage was equivalent to JSA and everything else was performance related!
