I cannot understand why he would be our second most expensive player ever and Torres was only a few million more. It doesn't matter that we are owed money, or the installments, we are still paying £18m for an average full back .

we'll have to wait and see if he is average, mate. It's how he plays in our team that counts

Other teams have been buying 10 -15m+ full backs for years and years and if we win the league then it's worth every penny.

As for comparing his price with Torres - well i think that we got a bargain there ... in the current market Torres would be 40-50m

You kidding? 60 - 75 at least mate!

Anyway even if Johnson couldn't get into the squad before that was then and this is now. They could easily just offer him silly wages and at the end of the day if he did go there he knows he would be a starter. I have a bad feeling about this but ive not seen anything concrete apart from that medical story from last night.

I wont be happy till ive seen it announced.

Because he's good and he's English, end of story.

On a sidenote, is there anybody you actually do rate? Sometimes I think you should go and support Arsenal since you spend most of the time creaming yourself over Wenger's "transfer policy". He's just paid £10m for an average Dutch centre half ffs.

they are just saying that we have both put the same offer in and its down to the player, the bbc have changed it from this morning as is said he was on the way to them.

yep thats what i am thinking, but i think his club will try to get him to come to us so they dont have to pay back 7mil.

i think probably 70-80% of our players would have gone to another club if they;d been offered more money elsewhere.... just my opinion like

He was apparantly nicknamed badjohnson as he was that poor.
As they had gudjohnson at the same time.
While its quite funny and probably was only meant to be banter, he was a young kid at the time and probably could have done with more support.

Spending 10-15 mill on fullbacks ?! for years and years ?!

lets list the fullbacks in the top clubs now shall we...

Cole - mainly a swap deal with Gallas - fee unknown
Bosingwa - ill give you that one...
Belleti -
Wes Brown - fck all
Evra - 5mill
Neville -fck all
the 2 brazilian kids -fck all
Clichy -fck all
Sagna - 6mill
Gibbs - nothing
Eboue - nothing

now to look at some of the other names around Europe...

Maicon - peanuts
Dani Alves - alot.. 20sumthing mill i think
Zambrotta -6 or 7 mill....

so on.... Fullbacks usually go around for cheap... unless theyr the best in the world i wouldnt understand why anyone would pay more than 10mill for a fullback... thing is, most clubs dont...
Unless ur a chelsea or a Barcelona or Madrid or Utd with all the other positions sorted out and with loads of cash to spend then it doesnt really make much sense spending so much on a fullback...

Still, Johnson is a good player and i expect him to do well if, rather when he signs... as long as we go out and bring in a top attacking player aswell, ill be a happy man.
