Considering Rafa is a bit of a control freak I'm sure he's got his blackberry, backup mobile and laptop with him on his hols, I'm sure he's still in contact, don't worry.

understand the fee is a bit scarey saint but the difference with keane and johnson for me is the age and the stages of their career - johnson is still pretty much developing and still got a good 8 years left whereas i thought paying 20 mil for a striker who had prob only 2/3 at the top left was over priced .

A player is either worth the fee you pay or he isn't. My opinion on Johnson is that he is not worth the fee or anything close to it. I will be delighted if he proves me wrong.

Don't get me wrong though, I wanted Rafa to only buy 2 or three players rather than a lot of "average priced" players. I think continuity is important, and we have the basis of a very good team. I also believe one of the reasons we did so well this season was that Rafa f.ucked up his transfers last season and so there wasn't the usual disturbances as a lot new players came in. So its not all bad that he has spunked a fair wedge of out transfer funds on one player...... just that imo it was the wrong player to be spending so much.

Not many players go for what they are worth these days thou saint - been like that for a while - Ferrira the guy maureen bought was 17 million and that was 5 years ago .Well im still pretty confident we will spend another big wedge on one more player .

We all will agree that the kind of money being throwing around is really ridiculous. But the problem is there is always someone next in line if you take a pass on a player regardless of the price. This is why you have to overpay to keep up. Otherwise, you wouldn't even get a half decent player nowadays. Since everyone is overpaying, I guess we are all on even ground :D

All the moaners complaining about it costing too much were probably the same gaggle who were bitching that the money we paid for Torres was too much for a striker who was unproven in the Premiership and wasn't an out and out goalscorer, and thought we got done good and proper when we bought Mascherano for £18m.

I for one never worried about the fee paid for Torres or Mascherano, but I certainly thought we paid over the odds for Keane and are doing so again for Johnson.

Just because someone doesn't clap their hands like a trained chimp every time we buy a player doesn't mean that they can't appreciate the difference between buying a top class player at a reasonable price and an over-rated player for an extortionate price

I never complained about the price we paid for Bellamy either..... I just said he wasn't good enough.

I'm kinda in agreement with saint here, regarding the price.

I never complained once over the fees of mash or torres. the only fee I thought was ridiculas in recent times was £7m for pennant, when I though he was worth a punt at £2.5m oh and Keane - who was always was and will be a £10/11m striker not a £20m one.

I like Johnson, he's a good player. But he aint worth £17mil.

Just look at the last 12 months. Last summer the kid was worth about £7m, in January, we reportedly baulked at his £11m transfer fee. now after 1 season of good form and a few games for england his stock has risen to £17m. Personally, given that he's young and english and after a good season, I put him at £10m - but not more than that.

As an over-elaborated, OTT example, to me it'd be like buying Ashley Young for £30m. Young, english. Improve our first 11? - yes (when he's on form). But not worth that amount of money? - No.

Dam right on that... English players are usually over priced. A bid for theo would probably have to be in the region of 30 mill.. Glen for me is worth 11-13 mill max.

His price has risen also due to the fact that chelsea and shitty were involved thus pompey would just sit back and let one of them dictate the price and the rest will have to follow

Or walk away mate, once the price gets more than you think the player is worth .....you walk away.

Well maybe this year its rafa deciding if the player is worth it and it seems rafa thinks he is - from what i have been told the fee will be over installments as we let them have crouch the same - the 18 mil includes bonuses for cl appearances and caps etc .

That just makes it easier to pay, it doesn't mean he costs any less. Obviously anything that we can buy on credit will appeal to twit and tw@t anyway.
