at 10 mil, regardless of nationalities, are there better alternatives for a RB than Johnson?
i will believe there are better players out there for a lower fee than Johnson, we are simply not in a situation to pi.s.s away 17 mil like tat.

Well, I still believe Johnson woud be an ok buy at 8-10 million but since we aren't manure, Chelski, man pissy etc we can not make buys like this.

If Manure buys a Veron, Berbatov etc for 30 million and they turn out to be poor, they can shrug their shoulders and buy a Ferdinand, Rooney etc for 30 million and still have a great team.

Unless something at ownership level has changed we will never be able to do that. If we buy big and it turns out a poor buy
it will have a big effect and would would miss the opportunity to strenghten other areas of the team.

And I hate those petty remarks like "Oh, and how do you know what Rafa's bugdet is?"

Wtf is that for kind of question. We all know what we have spent during Rafa's tenure and with the losses twit and :censored: has done any logic both financially and by experience suggests
what the budget is.

So with 20-25 net spend take or give a few millions biting a 18 million chunk out of it is quite a fair bit.

Chelski, manure and man pissy might have 100 million to spend
so we can go into bidding war vs those teams, as that would be madness.

And everyone who talks about selling players. It might not be that easy.

Babel's agent says he won't be leaving. Dossena has no offers at all and neither has arbeloa. And with one year left and his "homesickness" he won't be signing a new contract.
I would be surprised if we got more than 7 million for him.
We have wanted to get rid of Voronin for ages and he is still in our books. I doubt very much we will get much for him.

And Pennant, Itandje will bring back nothing.
Kuyt would be ideal to sell when he finally has a good season.
He is 28-29, and last season was without doubt his most productive season ever. If it isn't then I'll eat my hat.
Not that it'll ever happen. Cos he works hard....

Just been reading that we have offered Johnson £80k pw NET OF TAX, making him our highest earner after Torres and Gerrard. I am sure Carra, Masch, and Alonso will be made up by that news.

Just a question but if Evra was for sale how much would the mancs want for him?

He also good going forward but a bit of a sh!t defender but he dont get found out much because no fecker attacks them.

And if we become a force to be reckoned with no fecker will attack us either including the mancs.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Johnson hits jackpot with Anfield move
Offer of £80,000 a week should seal England full-back's £17m transfer to Liverpool

By Ian Herbert
Wednesday, 17 June 2009
Glen Johnson, in action for England, is set to join Liverpool next week

Glen Johnson has been drawn towards a £17m move to Liverpool by a salary which will make him one of the club's highest earners.

The England international defender's earnings at Anfield will be eclipsed only by the club's elite players, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, if, as expected, he becomes one of the most expensive full-backs in history and signs next week.

As well as the substantial wage, thought to be £80,000-a-week net of tax Liverpool are also prepared to fork out £5m more for Johnson than the £12m valuation set by Portsmouth which they balked at last summer.

I don't think he would be a bad signing, and we all already know english players can be overpriced so i don't know why there is the hoo har.

surely rafa knows what he is doing in the transfer market. some defend his record in the transfer market yet slate him in here for offering 17 million for johnson, you either trust him or you don't

I think he's a really good player. Mind you, I have been saying we should get him for about three seasons so if anybody ever listened to me they'd have saved themselves about 12 million quid. take off a couple of mill we'd have lost on Robert Earnshaw and you'd still be miles in front :D

80K per week is madness...
As for Evra leaving the mancs... think they want somewhere between 10-15 mill for him... not more than that i wouldnt think... Fullbacks never go around for big money... its the least imprortant position imo and most teams spend very little to bring in the fullbacks they have.. as i said, a fullback needs to be solid and everything else is a bonus... the likes of Oshea, Wes Brown, Ferreira, L.Young, Kaladze (few years back), Heinze...etc have all played for top clubs and won the whole fcking lot with them... its not a must having an attacking fullbaks who will score 5-10 goals and provide double as many in assists... not that i expect johnson to do that but just saying... what did Alves go for ? 22 or 23mill was it.. and maican had a 22mill price tag slapped on him to fend off potential interest ?!

anyways... end of the day hes a good player and an improvement despite the ridiculous price we're paying for him... all the best to him and Rafa

Glen Johnson... scored 8 goals in his career (4 since the 03/04 season)... with 17 assists (2002-2009)..
doesnt say much given his age and the clubs he played for (besides Chelsea) but i thought the numbers were interesting.. expected double figure goals for his portsmouth spell alone... needs to improve on those numbers though when he gets here .. all comes down to how rafa handles him on and off the pitch....

Glen Johnson's Liverpool switch delayed

Glen Johnson's anticipated £18m switch to Liverpool has been put on hold with the main negotiating figures on their holidays.
The Anfield outfit remain quietly confident of winning the race for the England right-back ahead of Manchester City and Chelsea.

But everything is on pause with both Rafa Benitez and Johnson on their summer break.

In addition, Peter Storrie has been in Israel since Monday, discussing tabled bids with Sacha Gaydamak.

sounds like it's all done and dusted then and will be signed when both get back from their hols.

Sounds like Parry's still around!

If we really wanted him surely they could all get to a fax to get this completed. If Storrie's in Israel discussing tabled 'bids' then it doesn't sound like we're the only ones in for him.

I'll be happy when it's confirmed but at the moment i'm not overly confident it's a done deal.

I think he offers an awful lot more than Arbeloa going forward and has improved a lot defensively over the last 2 seasons. Bearing in mind he'll be coached by the man who took Carra from makeshift left back or right back and made him a top class centre back I think he'd be a very good signing.

I wouldn't mind Richards too if it's true he could be available for £5 million, I think Rafa could make a top class centre back and right back out of him and we'd potentially have 2 of the best English defenders for the next 10 years, which wouldn't be a bad thing at all considering UEFA's antics.
