TAKEOVER COMPLETE - H & G Finally Jibbed!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

rick parry has a vested interest in keeping g&h at the club as well, despite his very public spats with them. had he done his job properly and done his homework on the yanks then he should never have sanctioned selling the club to them. as it is he's had his pants pulled down and been completely bummed by them. no chief exec worth his salt would ever allow a situation to develop where that would happen

a new owner would almost certainly have to get rid of him on grounds of incompetence so how far will he go to keep his job?

as for all the silly money getting banded about latterly by chelsea and now by man city, well it really could be the death of football as a game. the top teams in the league will always be the ones with the most money now that the gap between the haves and the have-nots has become an unassailable gulf. sooner or later some other mad foreign businessman will decide to buy a premiership club as a glamorous toy/hobby, and hey presto we'll have wigan athletic showing off their brand new 90,000 seater stadium and bidding £48 trillion for kaka et al. the game will turn into a complete farce (it's already half way there) unless some drastic rules are brought in which will level the playing field for all clubs so that management skill/youth development/player teamwork will once again be the areas in which teams can make themselves better than the opposition.  i haven't read bigmick's F1 analogy so apologies if i'm reposting his idea but can you imagine if ferrari were continually winning every single race, so mclaren get themselves a rich benefactor and decide to buy all ferrari's cars in order for themselves to have a chance of winning some races?

but in the meantime i suppose we have no option other than to keep up with the joneses, so with that in mind i so desperately want laurel & hardy to finally let go of their death grip on the club. i don't know much about DIC but at least they clearly have the money in place without having to mortgage the club's @rse to raise it. with those 2 idiots in charge this club is going nowhere fast

Don't know if you've ever seen the sport, they used to show it on C4 some years ago, but over here in Ireland, we have two of the most amazing amateur sports in the world. Now, I'm not biased just because of that, but I've watched dozens and dozens of different field sports in my time.
Gaelic football and Hurling are played by amateurs, by committed fit-as-bejaysus athletes who go out on the field year after year and lay down their lives for their county.
Both are played at a frenetic pace, by blokes who are fitter than many you'll see in the Premiership or elsewhere.
As it happens, we're coming up to All-Ireland Final time of the year, so I expect one of the channels over there will show the games.
Have a look just for research - you won't see any :censored: trying a stepover, or giving it the dying swan on the pitch.
More of this in the Premiership please...

I fear Hicks is actually in a stronger position today than he was a week ago.

What Merril Lynch are saying is - here's the opportunity you´ve been waiting for, its all coming together after the Man City deal so dont blow as there is only one other Arab group, get out now. (And our fees are.... xyz which will be paid by LFC).

They´re not saying, your name is $hit, why dont you sell for emotional reasons?

Its no coincedence their recommendation came out exactly as the ManCity news became public.

who cares as long as he sells. He has to though as he must see that LFC is a battle he can't win and he isn't going to make a lot of moeny on us as he doesn't have th emoney to invest properly so its time to get out.

its funny i can't see much difference from the past, except more clubs have big money rather than just manu, madrid,ac milan etc.

i think its great for other clubs to do great things a have a great period in their history.i heard some goon say on the radio if city win the next 3 league titles it will be bad for football, yet nobody is saying if manu win this season it will be bad for football. ok my club could go into lower divisions if we keep these two fools in charge, but thats how the cookie crumbles. you are either good enough or you are not.i do thnk its time that one of these billionaire club start giving the fans cheapers tickets instead of spending it on all on one player. but in general the more billionaires the better...if tickets eventually become cheaper.

I'd like us to have one :censored: poor season if we can't win the league this year. That way those to :censored: won't make a single penny out of our club and DIC will have more money over to strengthen the squad with.

I am pretty sure it would be better for the club if DIC had to pay as high a price as possible. The higher they pay the more invested they are, and the longer it will take for them to see gains, meaning they will stick around longer.

the reason salary caps work in America is because we are the only freaking coutry (that has any kind of serious money to spend) that plays American sports.  There is practically no competition for players and such, the owners have the benefit of setting up a closed shop system where everybody gets a team with at least one superstar, and there are just about enough teams to cover the whole country for tv viewership. The franchise salary cap set up is just a way to ensure that ALL the billionaires win and don't have to duke it out for profits and players. Teams make money even if they finish in last place because of all the shared revenue.

Also, if it was only implemented in England, than the premiership would eventually fall to level of the dutch league, if the salary cap was supposed to mean anything. The top English players would be spread all over Europe.

I would like to see FIFA implement something similar to what is going on in Denmark. (at least I think I remember reading about this idea and that they do it in Denmark)   Pretty much teams are only allowed to spend a certain % of the revenue that the club generates on transfers and salaries. So each team has in effect its own salary cap, but it is only limited to how much money you can make.  I would also be in favor of points deductions for having debt on the club (starting in a few years of course), and/or a luxury tax system in which any dollar of transfer or salary money over the limit spent has to be matched pound for pound by the club and put into a pool that is shared by all the clubs under the luxury tax limit.    Also would be a fan of limiting the squad, but more like a 30 man squad with at least 6 players being trained at the club

What Lakes was mentioning on the previous page, telling Hicks to sell up. What I am suggesting is that ML havent said this for negative reasons ref his reputation as suggested, but becuase in light of the Man Citeh deal, it presents an opportunity. Sell whilst the market is hot.

While i have only started reading the last 10 or so pages in this thread, my opinion would be that the more of the serious money men will want to get involved in Premiership clubs - and why not.  It has a massive global market (possibly the biggest sporting market), where upto 10 games are televised around the world everyweek - more if your team is in Europe - every kid on the street is wearing your "companies" shirt.
Compare this to F1 - where races are on every couple of weeks, and only last 5 of 6 months of the year but only the avid F1 supporter will go out and buy F1 merchandise.  Yes, care has to be taken that the clubs do not become the playthings of the rich, i seriously doubt that any business person, be they Arab, Indian or whatever, will treat his/her investment as a toy - they have not made all their money by acting the gobsh!te.
If we were to see for example another three or four clubs taken over by serious money men, and these clubs were able to afford the top players - it will still come down to (a) what team is managed the best and (b) who a player wants to play for as the money being offered by both team will be silly money regardless.  This has to be good for the league as at present there is only Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool that have dominated the league for the past 10 years - it is becoming like the SPL - when was the last time there was a few other serious contenders - Blackburn only.  Think about it - four or five clubs going into the last few weeks/games - think of the Super Sunday line up if there was not just one but several games that could decide the league.  Now that has to be good for football and the fans.

Might mean they are less willing to invest as heavily in the playing side though. Although with the money they have it shouldn't prove too much of a problem.

I would prefer H&G to get as little as possible and us get a new right winger if given the choice though  :D
