Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I wish DIC had just showed the same determination to buy the club then as they have recently. Those two jokers would not have been able to outbid DIC . I think it was more to do with how Moores handled the deal.

If Benitez goes then so be it. Might not want it, might not be happy with it, might not even agree with the reasons he's left, but that's football. You have to move on. I personally don't think he will go in the summer, unless he's sacked which I don't think the yanks will do because it means an extra 6 million payout, so I'm not to worried right now.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Maybe Rafa`s p!ssed of with coco for not sorting out a new deal for him so he`s had to go cap in hand to Hick`s. Either way with a year to go its shocking that a new deal hasnt even been mentioned and with all he`s given them whitch could well be 2 CL finals in a year and a bit. :no
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

I cant believe Rick Parry is saying he only met Jurgen under instruction to do so.  He didn't have to go and if he really didn't want to go he wouldn't of have.  But he did and that makes him just as guilty.

Why the :censored: do the papers always misconstrue quotes. We all heard what Rafa said after the game on the weekend but the Metro decided to use those quotes and start with the sentence "Rafa Benitez will decide his future only at the end of the season". :censored:.

Talk of pricey naming rights for Dallas Cowboys stadium intensifies

04:34 AM CDT on Sunday, April 13, 2008
By CALVIN WATKINS / The Dallas Morning News

Cowboys officials continue talks with several major companies regarding naming rights for their new stadium in Arlington.

Owner Jerry Jones has spoken to numerous Fortune 500 companies in the United States and overseas about putting their name on the estimated $1.1 billion stadium, which is scheduled to open in 2009. Sources said Mr. Jones wants to work with a company that has established itself not only in the United States but also globally and is in strong financial shape.

"I do believe AT&T is one they have talked to," Arlington Mayor Dr. Robert Cluck said. "AT&T is a great name. I've had a lot of contact with them because of the Cotton Bowl coming to the stadium. I think the Cowboys will pick a very, very strong company with which to name the stadium."
Cowboys spokesman Brett Daniels said it would be inaccurate to imply that the organization has a deal in place with anyone.

"Our naming-rights discussions are ongoing, and they are a major part of our stadium project," Mr. Daniels said. "Our organization has never had a naming-rights partner, and because of that, this is one of the most important things the Dallas Cowboys franchise has ever undertaken."

"We don't have any comment on that," said Stephen Jones, chief operating officer and executive vice president of the Cowboys. "It's no different than with the players. Until we get to a point when something's definitive, we wouldn't make any comment on that. It's certainly nowhere near that."

AT&T spokeswoman Sarah Andreani denied there was a deal.

"We absolutely do not have a naming-rights agreement with the Cowboys," she said.

The naming-rights deal could be the richest in sports history, sports marketing experts have said, because of Mr. Jones' marketing prowess and the team's global brand strength. The Cowboys, according to Forbes magazine, are the world's most valuable sports franchise at $1.5 billion, and they play in one of the top five media markets.

The largest naming-rights deals in sports belong to two New York-area franchises. The Mets, who will open Citi Field next spring, will receive $400 million over 20 years from Citigroup. The New Jersey Nets plan to move to the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn in 2009 or 2010. The naming-rights contract with Barclays Bank bank is for the same amount as the Mets' deal.

The Houston Texans have the NFL's largest naming-rights deal. The Texans have a 31-year, $310 million deal with Reliant Energy.

Existing sports venues bearing the AT&T name include AT&T Center in San Antonio, AT&T Park in San Francisco, AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, AT&T Field in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Texas Tech's Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.

"I think it's exciting, and certainly AT&T is large enough that we don't have to worry about it being a financial problem," said Arlington Councilman and Mayor Pro Tem Ron Wright. "I think AT&T is a great corporation, and very financially successful. They are headquartered [in San Antonio] and I like that."

BBC Sport football expert

Liverpool is a club that has prided itself on being a model of togetherness on and off the pitch - so the current bout of very public boardroom in-fighting is hugely detrimental.

If the Americans cannot unite and move forward they should sell to Dubai International Capital

In the past Liverpool traded in positive news and if there was anything negative no-one ever heard about it. Sadly, there has been a lot of dirty laundry washed in public recently and it is not doing anyone any good.

Manager Rafael Benitez has a chance to lead Liverpool to their third Champions League final in four years, and yet so many headlines are about the differences between the co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, with Benitez and chief executive Rick Parry now dragged into the debate.

Indeed, the results on the pitch have gone a long way to masking the differences between the owners. Make no mistake, if Liverpool were not in the last four of the Champions League, the media would be having even more of a field day at the club's expense.

It is a simple thing to say, but for the club to go forward and challenge Manchester United's domestic supremacy, this must be sorted out quickly before any long-term damage is done.

We'll come to the ramifications for Benitez later, but in my opinion the only way forward for Liverpool Football Club is a new stadium and if this goes on the back-burner because the owners cannot sort themselves out, then this is once again detrimental.

If the Americans cannot get together and go forward, and from what we see and hear there is little sign of that, then they should sell to Dubai International Capital - clearly a very interested and ambitious party with the financial muscle to build the new stadium and invest in the team.

I love Anfield and the European nights there now are something else. They are even better than the ones I used to experience, perhaps because it was expected as a matter of course back then. I love the "This Is Anfield" sign as you go down the tunnel and love looking around the place where I played and had so many great memories.

Rafael Benitez will find it difficult to plan for the future in an atmosphere of uncertainty

But time moves on and Liverpool are being left behind, with Manchester United getting 30,000 more fans every home game and Arsenal having a licence to print money at The Emirates. The new stadium has to be the next major step forward for Liverpool, and it cannot afford to be held back by differences at board level.

This brings us to Benitez, who has clearly and publicly been unsettled by developments behind the scenes at Anfield.

He needs to have plans in place for next season and it is difficult for him to do that with all that is going on in Anfield's corridors of power. He needs to know how much money he has to spend in the summer. He needs to know who is going to own the club to back his transfer plans.

My hope - and my belief - is that Benitez will stay because you cannot argue with his record in the Champions League. The Premiership is another story, but they have improved this season.

Liverpool need to find another signing of the quality of Fernando Torres in the wide positions, and to my mind the player who could fit the bill is Blackburn's David Bentley, although Mark Hughes will have his own ideas about that.

I said at the start of the season that Liverpool needed a 20-goal a season man in the Premier League. They have found him in Torres and yet still come up short in the league, but with a couple of quality additions they can improve again.

But the main item on the agenda now - apart from the obvious ones of playing in the Champions League semi-final against Chelsea and securing fourth place in the Premier League - is ending the boardroom strife and moving on with the new stadium.

Bollox.

Why is there this myth that when a manager leaves, there will be a mass exodus of players that he has signed?  Name a top club this has ever happened at??

Did Chelsea have a mass exodus when Mourinho left? No.  Why?  Because it doesn't fu.cking happen.  If players are happy at a club, then simply a change of manager, even one they like, will not cause them to look for a transfer.

Just offf the top of my head, it happened at Porto when Mourinho left.

Some players will want to go, and some will be sold should Rafa leave, that much is a given. Not a great position for a Club under so much debt to be in, a rebuilding phase yet again, we'd probably fail to get in the CL and the downward spiral begins.

Bloody hell cheer up people, al this talk of an acopalypse is getting totally silly. I repeat again, THIS WILL ALL GET SORTED OUT VERY SOON. Hicks will have to sell as he can't buy from Gilett, as the credit crunch tightens its grip on America they will not have a choice other than to sell and the sooner the better.
