TAKEOVER COMPLETE - H & G Finally Jibbed!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I believe that the boycotting idea is nigh on unworkable in reality. As other posters have said if regulars don't go to the games then others that can't get regular tickets or day trippers will take their place and still line this toe rags pockets.

I think a more effective course of action would be for non confrontational organised pickets (probably by S.O.S) of the VIP's entrance to the Main stand and the corporate guests entrances in the Centenary stand. These corporate guests/box owners pay big bucks for these seats and if the fans are picketing their entrance they won't like it. Many of these corporations use the boxes/seats for wooing prospective clients and current customers and it won't make them look good if their customers are having to walk by mass demonstrations against someone who is very similar to them making them feel uncomfortable (but not intimidated). This would hopefully result in them pulling the plug on their big fat corporate hospitality packages which will certainly hit Hicks where it hurts - the wallet.

I think that the most effective course of action for us fans to take en mass is to stop buying merchandise of all shapes and sizes thus making Hicks' pockets a little less emptier.

FINANCE EXPERT EXPECTS DIC DEAL

Football finance expert Professor Chris Brady has dismissed Tom Hicks' termination of Liverpool takeover talks with Dubai International Capital (DIC) as a "negotiation manoeuvre" and expects the deal to be wrapped up by June.

Hicks ended discussions yesterday, insisting in a statement he was not interested in jointly running the club "by committee" with DIC and vetoed their proposal to buy out 49% of co-owner George Gillett's 50% stake.

It has led to speculation that the proposed £400million deal is dead in the water, but Professor Brady, who is the Dean of the business school at Bournemouth University, believes Hicks is angling for a better price.

He told Football Insider: "Clearly Hicks wants out now. He probably thinks he can get £450 million by stalling and they (DIC) will probably go to £450 million.

"My guess is that this is a manoeuvre in a normal negotiation. Hicks will wait and try to get as much money as possible by frustrating DIC, but it's obvious from the dialogue he will sell.

"From what I've heard there is no rush of alternative buyers out there and DIC are keen.

"Dubai (DIC), presumably, will want to wrap the deal up by the middle or end of June so they have time to prepare for the new season."

Earlier reports - since denied by Hicks - suggested Hicks and DIC had disagreed over the Dubai group's plans to install a fan with full voting rights to the board.

Brady, who thinks DIC will eventually assume total control of the club, believes the scheme would help any new owners avoid the same popularity issues suffered by Hicks and Gillett.

"If Dubai buy 90% of the equity at some stage or another, then a group, possibly Rogan Taylor's (Share Liverpool FC Group), can take 10% for the fans with board membership," he added.

"I suspect that's what Rogan's group are aiming for, and I reckon DIC will take that.

"They would get the majority and controlling stake, and it keeps the fans quiet for five years or so, which is important.

"No matter how much due diligence they (foreign investors) do, they do not quite understand how involved and awkward fans can be over here."
++

When this is the gameplan, you can see that a boycott of any kind is a complete waste of time.

However the key point is that he says HICKS wants to sell out, not just Gillett.

He might want to sell out Reg, but only for a huge sum. 250 million isn't enough for this greedy :censored:. He's holding out for 800 million, if not more.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Oliver Kay - TimesEuropean master Benitez puts an added notch on bulletproof

March 12, 2008

Should he tire of wondering who will sign his next pay cheque – or, more pertinently, his next Spanish superstar or South American teenager – Rafael BenÍtez will never be short of offers from Italy. A coach does not claim the scalps of Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan in the Champions League without attracting covetous glances from the smoke-filled boardrooms of Serie A, and the Liverpool manager is said to be well aware of this as life on Merseyside becomes more complicated by the day.

On the eve of this critical Champions League tie, it was put to BenÍtez that “you don’t need this”, “this” being the very public power struggle being played out between Tom Hicks, Liverpool’s co-chairman, and Dubai International Capital (DIC), the would-be owners. In one sense he does not need it. But those close to him suggest that he does; that the Liverpool job, once regarded as a natural stepping stone to Real Madrid, has consumed him.

BenÍtez has sailed remarkably close to the wind, entering a dangerous political game that almost cost him his job in November and may yet in the long term, but it is on nights such as this, faced with a tactical conundrum against high-class European opponents, that he has built his reputation, not only among Liverpool supporters but throughout Europe. He might struggle on the domestic front, but more than a few clubs – even Inter, on course for a third successive league title in Serie A but without a European Cup since 1965 – would settle for that in exchange for the kind of Champions League success BenÍtez has enjoyed.

This was not your typical BenÍtez tactical masterclass in Europe; it was too frenzied, too open, for that. But, with a 2-0 lead from the first leg, BenÍtez had decided not to play into Inter’s hands by sitting back and trying to soak up pressure. He picked a team equipped to counter-attack, which they did to such devastating effect in the 64th minute, when Fernando Torres – a forward whom Sir Alex Ferguson, after much consideration, deciding against battling Liverpool for last summer – scored yet another truly wonderful goal to add to his collection.

Hicks might like to take some of the credit for that, having sanctioned the club-record £20.5 million deal that brought Torres from Atlético Madrid, but Liverpool’s success in the Champions League this season has come in spite of the club’s American owners, not because of them.

After a couple of iffy results and an untimely BenÍtez tantrum during the group stage in the autumn, Hicks and George Gillett Jr tried and failed to hire Jürgen Klinsmann as their new manager. As unstable as the club have been from top to bottom this season, that was, and remains, truly astonishing.

That development, more than anything, turned Liverpool’s supporters against their American owners and had many of them praying for a takeover by DIC. Contrary to Hicks’s statements, DIC remains confident that will happen at some stage. More upheaval is ahead at Anfield, but much more of this and BenÍtez will be bulletproof.

DAILY POST

Revealed: How Dubai plan to put fans on Liverpool board killed deal
Mar 11 2008

TALKS between Liverpool’s co-owner Tom Hicks and Dubai International Capital collapsed after DIC proposed putting a fans’ representative on the Anfield board.

It is understood the Dubai negotiators wanted a supporter representative in the boardroom with full voting rights.

The plan to give fans a stake in the club’s running followed a trip to Liverpool by a representative of DIC who met members of supporters’ groups campaigning for the Americans to sell.

Billionaire Hicks swiftly pulled the plug on discussions held yesterday with DIC, saying: “Based on a meeting held earlier today in Dubai between my representatives and officials of Dubai International Capital LLC, as well as other recent contacts between us and them, I have decided to terminate any further discussions with DIC regarding their possible purchase of a minority stake in Kop and, in turn, in the club.

“DIC made it clear that if they invested in the club, they would want it to be managed by committee.

“Based on my 13 years of successful experience as an owner of professional sports teams, and based in particular on the situation at Liverpool Football Club over the past year, it is clear to me that such a committee approach would not be in the best interest of Kop, of the club or of the club's loyal and passionate supporters.

“Accordingly, I have decided to exercise my right under the Kop Football (Holdings) Limited partnership agreement to veto any sale of any portion of Kop and the club to DIC.

“I and my colleagues and representatives will continue to explore a number of other options with regard to the ownership of Kop and the club aimed at achieving an appropriate ownership, financial and organisational structure for Kop and the club over the long term.”

DIC have made no official comment since, but significantly have not said they are no longer interested in purchasing the club – or a significant stake in it.

It is understood their interest has not waned despite Hicks calling off the deal. It has also been suggested Hicks wanted the Dubains to pay for the building of the new stadium and for future transfer fees, but without any real say over big decision regarding the club’s future.

There has also been no comment from American co-owner George Gillett, who has fallen out with Hicks and has made no comment for many weeks and whose name has been missing from all recent statements issued from America.

Gillett is understood to have agreed in principle to sell 49% of his half stake to DIC, and the other 1% to Hicks to give the Texan a controlling interest.

DIC have accepted that Hicks will not sell his share in Liverpool in the near future, but would insist on a clause giving them first refusal to buy his stake.

As far as Liverpool are concerned, it is back to square one with Hicks and Gillett at loggerheads – even more so now the Texan has vetoed the sale – and There are only 17 months until the £350m loan the Americans took out in January has to be refinanced again.

Furthermore, another loan of around £300m will have to be taken out to finance the building of the new stadium at Stanley park.

Fans today reacted with dismay to the decisions. Les Lawson, secretary of Liverpool Official Supporters Association, said: “This has gone down like a lead balloon. We just want Hicks and Gillett to do what’s right for Liverpool Football Club.

“Hicks is doing this because he wants to run LFC in a particular way. DIC were saying they wanted to run the club by committee, that’s how it has always been done.

“I just hope they don’t walk away, but continue to force the issue.

“As far as I am concerned, there is no way Hicks and Gillett are going to win back the trust of the supporters.”

A spokesperson for Tom Hicks later denied the claims saying: "With regard to a report claiming that talks between [Tom Hicks] and Dubai International Capital collapsed after the Dubains proposed putting a fans representative on the Anfield board," I can confirm after consultation with Mr. Hicks and his representatives at the meetings with DIC that at no time during any such meetings did DIC propose, nor did Mr. Hicks or his representatives reject, any such proposal."

Well I guess its no surprise that I'd be happy as well. Actually I have moderated my stance a little. If Rafa could assure me that he would stop rotating players and formations as much as he did this year then I'd be willing to give him one more season, if not then he has to be sacked as we will NEVER win the league with his mass rotation tactics, and the league is the most important thing, I'm getting bored of continual European glory  :p  :D

Interesting...

A day after Hicks broke off negotiations on a partnership deal with Dubai International Capital, the correspondence underlines the Dallas businessman's determination to stop George Gillett selling his shares to DIC.

In the emails, Hicks blames Gillett for the calamitous PR own-goal of approaching Jurgen Klinsmann as a replacement for manager Rafa Benitez last November before going on to criticise him for holding the club back.

"I have a large investment and plan to make a bigger one," Hicks told one fan in an email, later published on the internet. "Gillett has held us back financially, but that will change. In the end, one person must have responsibility for making decisions. It has been very difficult for George and me to agree on things (Klinsmann) and DIC wanted their people to have an equal vote on things like keeping Rafa (I will), signing players and managing the business.

"The club has not been run very well for a long time now. I intend to fix the problems."

In another email, Hicks writes: "I have taken huge risks because I believe our club can be the best in the world again.

"Gillett knew Klinsmann from Vail [Colorado]. In hindsight, it was a big mistake, but I have publicly, and privately, backed Rafa since our meeting December 16th.

"The finances will be fine. We are playing much better. DIC has been playing the press like a drum. Our new stadium will be the best in the world."

Hicks' exchanges with fans are part of a new charm offensive to persuade supporters to drop their opposition to his long-term ambitions to remain in charge at Anfield.

However, fans' groups have expressed their anger at Hicks' decision to call off talks with DIC as they closed in on a £170 million deal with Gillett for his 50 per cent stake. Hicks says he has the power to block the sale.

Les Lawson, secretary of the Liverpool Supporters' Association, said: "As far as I'm concerned, there is no way Hicks and Gillett are going to win back the trust of the supporters."

Unbelievable, truly unbelievable.

He's blaming Gillett for the Klinsmann fiasco yet it was HIM who revealed to the world that they had discussed the post of manager with him. It was HIM doing things like that in the full glare of the worlds media that has ultimately destroyed our season and is dragging the club through the mud.

If this is his idea of running the club properly then I hate to think how much worse things could be/get.

I don't like things being done through the media when it comes to the club but if he really wants to try building any bridges with the fans we need assurances set in stone that no more debt is going to be placed on the club, either to pay for his takeover or for the stadium. That is nigh on impossible I believe which leaves only one course of action for him to take...

FUCK OFF!!!

i think this is a great idea as it's easy to implement and doesn't affect the team- we should picket the VIP's entrance and also the club shop-whilst also encouraging people not to use the food stands etc once inside the ground.

Hicks can spill out his propaganda but in reality he will ruin our club for his own gain- he is a proven liar so don't start believing his latest cr.ap blaming Gillette! If he were so good wouldn't Moores/Parry be dropping these facts to the press/fans!
