Liverpool FC boss George Gillett ponders massive DIC pay-off
Mar 5 2008 Tony Barrett Exclusive

GEORGE Gillett is pondering a vastly improved offer for Liverpool Football Club from Dubai International Capital.

Sources close to DIC suggest the bid would allow Gillett to walk away from the club with an £80m profit.

But sources in the Gillett camp argue the figure is £40m.

The revised offer was put to Gillett late last night.

DIC indicated they would not raise their offer again even though their interest in buying Liverpool remains as strong as ever.

Gillett instructed his lawyers to attend the meeting at a top London hotel on his behalf, and DIC was represented by top businesswoman Amanda Staveley.

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry was also there having been invited by DIC and Gillett to represent the best interests of the club.

Gillett was unable to attend in person as he is recovering from illness at his home in Vail, Colorado, but he was in constant phone contact with all parties.

Sources close to Gillett dispute the £80m figure, insisting the offer would have given the American a profit closer to £40m.

But what is beyond any doubt is the fact DIC raised their initial offer to win his 50% stake.

With Tom Hicks still sticking to his guns and insisting he is not looking to sell his stake, the future of the club remains delicately poised.

Unless one party gives way the present situation is likely to continue.

The impasse has caused uproar among many Liverpool fans

Now take the money and run
Mar 5 2008 by John Thompson, Liverpool Echo

THE future of one of the world’s greatest football clubs hangs in the balance today.

Liverpool FC is at the centre of a wicked tug-of-war with American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, in the eyes of fans, wanting a huge fortune to release it from their grasp.

Yesterday the two Americans, who are at loggerheads with each other, were offered a generous profit of £25m each on their year-old investment by Dubai Investment Capital.

With the pair so divided, there is surely no way now they can ever repair the damage between themselves, and at Anfield, and continue at the helm.

Late last night, DIC sources say the pay-off offer to Gillett, was increased to a staggering £80m. Yet, once again, he has rejected it.

It seems Liverpool FC is nothing more than a crude bargaining chip on the roulette table of high commerce, while the fans who love the club can only look on helpless.

Business may be business but both men, Gillett in particular, today stand to make such an enormous personal fortune from Anfield that it almost beggars belief they should decline.

These men must no longer stand in the way of a solution to this crisis.

They’ve been offered a fortune by the Dubaians to step aside. And they have a moral obligation to accept.

Common decency demands an end to this unedifying episode today.

The dollars are on the table for Hicks and Gillett, but it is the dreams of thousands of loyal fans which they hold in their hands.

Do you think that the current protests will have an impact with Hicks or do you think things need to be stepped up. How are things on match days? Are people boycotting the club shop and food/bev counters? Obviously we don't want to stop supporting our team on the pitch but if they lose revenue from food/drink sales and merchandise then this should have an impact as these are big profit makers. I'm up next week and will make sure that no other money goes into the yanks pockets (other than my ticket fee) but if this was done on a major scale then maybe they would think again. If that doesn't work then it needs to be stepped up again- and again - until they go and leave it to DIC who actually support the club and have cash to guarantee loans against the new stadium without having to accept inflated loans!

IMO -

DIC will end up having control at Liverpool in some capacity before long.

Dmjn100

Back to the takeover topic, Gillet doesn't need to worry about Hicks' threats. If Gillet is a smart man, his new found ally will be DIC. Just look at DIC's portfolio... DIC Portfolio

And mind you, that's DIC only. DIC is just a part of a bigger body

C'mon DIC!! Get in there!!  :buttrock

if we're allowed be juvenile can i sat that if hicks keeps rubbing dic up the wrong way things could get messy :suspect:

Liverpool sale talks hit deadlock
By Phil McNulty
Chief football writer

Liverpool's future ownership is delicately poised
Liverpool's future is still unclear after co-owner George Gillett failed to agree a deal with Dubai International Capital over his 50% share in the club.

DIC has tabled a £400m bid to take control of Liverpool from Gillett and his fellow American partner Tom Hicks.

Representatives for DIC held talks with Gillett's lawyers at a London hotel on Tuesday, with Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry also in attendance.

BBC Sport understands the talks were "cordial" but the parties remain apart.

The talks are expected to continue on a daily basis, but DIC sources stress the offer is final - and while it has not yet been agreed, Gillett has not rejected the bid out of hand.

DIC giving them "24 hour deadline" is pointless

Hicks insists he is unwilling to sell his share of Liverpool to DIC, the Government-run Dubai investment fund, and is plotting to raise money to buy out Gillett and take total control at Anfield.

The Americans took control of Liverpool in a deal worth £218.9m in February 2007 but their own relationship has broken down and the pair - Hicks in particular - have been the target for savage criticism from supporters.

DIC must now decide whether to continue dialogue with Gillett, who it is believed is willing to sell but not at the price currently on offer and will not be rushed into a sale or agree to any deadline on a decision.

The situation is further complicated by an agreement between Hicks and Gillett that means one cannot sell his share without the agreement of the other.

The Dubai group must now decide whether to continue the dialogue with Gillett, who was at his home in Vail, Colorado, recovering from illness during Tuesday's talks, as Hicks continues to take an entrenched position.

Top businesswoman Amanda Staveley represented DIC in the talks with Gillett's lawyers, while Parry was invited to attend to provide background and ensure the club's interests were looked after.

DIC confirmed on Monday that it had been in talks with Hicks and Gillett about purchasing a stake in the Anfield club, having missed out to the Americans last year.

The group will hope an agreement with Gillett puts pressure on Hicks to sell but, with talks having reached a temporary deadlock, Liverpool's future ownership still remains delicately poised.
