I know we've got talent coming through nanny but again (not being pesimistic because nobody wants this club to succeed more than me) but talent in the youth and reserve doesn't mean success in the first team. One they have to be given a proper run in the side, not one game here and another game there. Secondly Neil Mellor scored 40 goals a season at reserve level and although I was fan of his, he didn't really deliver on a regular basis at the highest level, these lads may not be good enough for the prem but I am convinced they are.

4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

time, time, time, time, time and time again I hear how it's down to time that Wenger and Fergie are the top two managers in this division.

OK I'll accept that IF somebody can explain to me why Steve Coppell is managing a team below Sunderland, Birmingham, Spurs, Newcastle, Villa, City and Bolton. Keane, McCliesh, Ramos, Keegan (this time round) O'Neill, Eriksson and Megson have all be managing their repsective clubs for less time than Coppell has been managing Reading, but Reading are lower than them all. Your explanations here please. Or does time only excuse Benitez?

Next, Allerdyce had been managing Bolton for nearly 10 years in that time Benitez had managed us for three whole years. But Bolton didn't once finish above Liverpool under Benitez. So again why does time only exist for teams above us but not below.

Thirdly, Grant has been in charge of Chelsea for less time than Benitez has at Liverpool and Grant has spent less than Benitez, but Chelsea are above us under Grant. Hmmmmm now what's the reasons there?

Next just in case someone wants to mention money which is another great excuse for why we're so far behind. I'll use the prem again, Sunderland have spent millions of money this season, 9 million alone on a keeper and another 5 million on a first division player, yet still find themselves behind Blackburn who can't even afford the bus fair from Ewood Park to Speke Airport. So again is it only money when it comes to Liverpool? My favourite for this is Everton, they've spent nowhere near the equivilant of us yet find themselves above us.

Villa and City haven't spent as much as us over the past 4 years (Benitez' reign) and have managers who've been managing for shorter time than Benitez at their respected clubs but yet still find themsleves in a battle for fourth with us. So where does money and time exist here?

Now this isn't a rant about Benitez being a bad manager, it's a rant to prove that time and money are :censored: excuses for why we're not challenging. Time and money don't win you the league, players and managers do. Just like zones don't score goals players do so why zonal mark. If it's down to time, what do you suggest...we keep hold of Benitez for 40 years and hope Fergie has retired by then because then he'd of had more time than any other manager in the league? Or maybe we just give Benitez an open cheque book to sign a million more Josemi's Nunez' or Morientes'.

Time and money (please read this carefully) BOTH CONTRIBUTE TO THE CHANCE OF WINNING THE LEAGUE, BUT NEITHER ARE VALID EXCUSES FOR FAILURE.

Tell that to Billy Davis and your mate Jol.

Billy Davies was badly treated by the Derby board. Jol was forced to buy players he didn't want.

Its because of the standards each club sets itself. Boltons aim was to avoid relegation. Above all else sam allardyce was entrusted with keeping the club in the premiership. He achieved this, and with time built a team capable of european qualification. The rest of the managers you mentioned also had the same aim with there teams, aside from red nose and the voyeur. Its the standards of each club that sets the supporters apart.

No that was before I had anything to drink, I was saying that if Hicks didn't sell and instead took full control of the club we would end up like Leeds, come on I'm always consistent, at least give me that   :D

Yes they should of, they didn't. Like Benitez isn't this season. Those two were sacked (wrongly IMO).

Davies didn't buy the right quality of player. Jol was looking for a way out because he knew he wasn't wanted by the board.

Well the standards of this club is to win the league, we're not doing so and actually don't look like we will.

So do we persist with giving the excuse of time and money?

Houllier was given six years, Souness less than that and both were told you've had enough time. Benitez has had four up to now (same as Souness) and that isn't long enough. So how long is long enough?

I agree, now is neither the time or place to be discussing Rafa, lets all focus on getting the American clowns out of our club, then we can get back to the fun topics.   :wwww  :wwww

I fail to understand why you persist in going down the route of isolating one factor that tends to influence the success of football clubs, disregarding a host of others, in an attempt to prove something. You do exactly the same thing with money and it's just fu.cking stupid.

Joe terp did not say more time as a manager at a given club = more success.

If it did, Guy Roux would've won 20 consecutive European cups.

What I believe he's saying, and what is obvious is; Wenger's gained significant experience in the English game during his time with Arsenal, that has made his ability to build a young talented side on a relatively low budget much easier.

It appears that when someone uses both experience and time in the game (or lack of) as factors that influence the success of football clubs or reasons why certain managers are succeeding in areas others are not, you conclude that they are using it as an excuse for not achieving. They are not, they are using at as a reason, one of many, that may or may not determine the level of success at a football club at any given time. You wouldn't expect Steve Coppell to have taken Reading to the Champions league by virtue of his greater experience in the game than David Moyes for example. The reasons being numerous, foremost of all; he's operated on a shoestring budget with Reading and they're not as big a clb as Everton (not they they're a big club). He has however at Reading, managed to surpass the level of achievement reasonably expected of him, in reaching the level that they have I have no doubt that Coppell's experience in the game is a prime reason why he has managed to keep them in the Premier League.
