INTER MILAN vs LIVERPOOL: CL-11/03/08 - 2nd Leg - Build up and Match Discussion

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Manhattan has a plan.

He's going to write to the FA asking them to replace the Premiership trophy with the European Cup.

So when Rafa sees the new Premiership trophy, he'll see ANOTHER EUROPEAN CUP!!!

That will inspire him to league success to match his European supremacy.

The draw is on the 7th of March mate so unless they change the date of the draw we will know in advance.

Spot on Sabre, I have to admit I felt a bit uncomfortable with Torres' diving , not really the English way , but wha't the f'uck, as you say , the Italians do it all the time , so i'm not gonna complain if one of of our lads gives them a taste of their own medicine.

When in rome !

I laughed at Torres' diving. It was pretty bad but the referee was so inept he bought it !

Well they never quite managed to squeeze in the news about Rafa's team talk and "playing players on merit" over here (I think it's the power boating World Championships and the Annual North American snowski trickshot jamboree thing so we're a bit overblown on those at the moment). Does anybody have a link to the story/interview?

If it's true that he's going to start picking the team on some kind of more traditional methods (ie an unchanged team for the next game sonsidering we've just beaten Inter Milan) then feck me anythings possible for this bunch of players.

Cheers saint.

Think that will add any fear into the lads. I mean it's a bit different knowing you've got Celtic to knowing you've got Barcelona. Not that I fear anybody, but the players might be a little worried about the next round and cause complacancy.

Little extra note, LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB WERE THE ONLY BRITISH SIDE TO WIN THEIR FIRST LEG, AND NOT ONE :censored: IN THE BRITISH :censored: MEDIA HAS GIVEN US ANY :censored: CREDIT. Well they'll have to when we win it for a SIXTH time in Moscow.

Theres no reason why he shouldnt now is there? The race is on for fourth place and its 3 weeks before the return leg against inter so logic says play a consistent team resting players towards the end of matches if we are in a comfortable lead.

I noticed that the reports of the LFC/Inter game all came with the exact same additional line.

"Mattarazzi's sending off.....ooohh that was a little harsh"

I swear.

The BBC, ITV, Sky News, Sky Sports News.

ALL said the same thing.

LFC dominated the game.

For the first half hour Inter had 11 men and did absolutely nothing.

The fact that LFC show such dominance and determination only frustrates deeper when we lose or draw matches that we should be winning.

No worries the champions league is ours.

2004/05 Carra made our record games in the premiership with his 241st game.
2007/08 Carra makes another record, reaching 500 games.

The omens are already starting, old big ears is coming back home to Anfield.

how nice would it have been if, When rafa was asked at the end "what was the best bit of the game" he answered 'seeing that cheating :censored: Mattarazzi being sent off' Rafa had the chance to get the key to every city in France and he missed it.  Once in the life time opprtunity gone.

Right, we've got to forget about this game and concentrate on Saturday. This is now in the past and we can't excuse a poor performance on Saturday by this great result.

Over two legs I think we can beat anyone.

In the final, we will rise to the occasion and win.

We lost the last final by a slim margin.

Kaka did nothing for the whole game. Inzaghi's first goal came off his face.

I can't really be fecked to analyse the performance too much, because we won, and our inconsistencies are such that it probably wouldn't be indicative of anything.

I'll just say;

1) Mascherano was outstanding, people have talked about desire to win. This guy is perhaps the most driven player we have, absolutely ravenous. He demonstrated a wider range of passing too.

2) Our crossing was very poor first half - Aurelio was particularly sh!te I thought. Gerrard was guilty of a few poor deliveries too. (FFS! you're professional footballers, you should be able to provide a decent cross nine times out of ten).

3) Our support play was excellent in the second half, even Carra was up there supporting Finnan, who in turn supported Pennant and occasionally trying to overlap Maxwell. Gerrard was always probing and searching for the ball. This was the most notable change in the second half, we pinned them back and absolutely dominated largely because of it. Their pressing was really poor though - against EPL teams we wouldn't usually be afforded the time and space they gave us.

4) I saw the replays of Kuyt's goal today (yesterday), Reina's celebration was class - LEGEND. He's another who has massive desire to win.

We can now go to the San Siro with a solid defense/counter-attacking masterplan ala Juve 2005. Our primary objective must be defensive solidity, we need to press intelligently and work very hard to achieve this, our secondary objective; try to nick a goal on the counter with the pace of Gerrard and Torres.

There is simply no room for complacency in this competition.
