Are you serious? Some of the richest people on the planet for fact. The guy owns a country ffs and is building islands in the ocean that make up a mini globe. They make Hicks look like he runs a chippy down the road. They are minted. They don't need loans that's for f*cking sure.

I was refering to past business dealings, success/failure etc. and more importantly whether they do what they say. They could have all the money in the world but it will not help us if they are money grubbing w@nkers.

And going by the state of Dubai these days, I'd say their success rate in other areas is quiet good.

Building sky scrapers and fancy hotels doesnt mean progress. Immigrant workers treated like 2nd class citizens housed in the worst places and paid less money is not progress. Dubai has done well in the sense it doesnt rely on oil to fund there economy like the other gulf states. Building islands in the ocean that make up a mini globe is nothing but a gimmick. How about making sure all the people are eating and are housed. Also I dont think owning a county and being a glorified dictator is something to be proud of. Its not like the people have a choice on who runs the country.

As far as I'm aware, poor working conditions are only really evident on large-scale construction projects, where thousands are drafted in from the sub-continent. The actual conditions of those working within primary businesses owned by Sheikh Mohammed are of a very high standard.

I'm not interested in the politics human rights act in Dubai , i came on this forum to discuss FOOTBALL. I'm sure many club owners in this and other countries have less than perfect C.V.s as far as ethics is concerned. so please lets talk politics on a political forum and football here.

Liverpool are poised to change hands again - by the middle of next month - as the club's US owners close in on a double-your-money offer from Dubai.

Despite denials from Tom Hicks and George Gillett, Mirror Sport understands that an outline agreement to transfer ownership of the Anfield giants to Dubai International Capital is in the pipeline.

Sources in New York have confirmed that a £460million deal with DIC - the Dubai government's financial arm and headed by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum - is now on the verge of conclusion. Anfield fans will rejoice at the news that the two Americans' ill-starred reign is ending after a series of protests in recent weeks over their treatment of boss Rafa Benitez.

Supporters have demanded a sale to DIC, who were jilted at the end of 2006 when the Liverpool board wrongly believed the deal with the Americans would safeguard the interests of the club. Hicks is expected to stay as part of the new club directorate in the immediate aftermath of the sale.

The effective sale price is nowhere near the ambitious £1billion valuation Mirror Sport exclusively revealed was put on the club by Hicks in November. He and Gillett paid just £219m to take control of Liverpool from David Moores a year ago.

One insider said: "These talks are still ongoing. Tom and George want to make sure they get the right price for giving up the club."

Despite leaving Liverpool with a £350m debt, they will be able to walk away having made a substantial profit.

DIC reach agreement on Liverpool

Dubai International Capital is back in the picture for Liverpool FC again.

Dubai International Capital, the private equity unit of the Dubai government, has reached an ‘outline agreement’ with Liverpool Football Club’s current owners, US businessmen Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

A price tag of £460m (US$905m) was reported by the UK’s Daily Mirror, citing sources in New York. The report said that the deal could be completed in mid-March.

DIC’s interest is a surprise after Hicks and Gillett rejected recent claims that confirmed talks with DIC at the beginning of 2008 were continuing. Last month, Hicks and Gillett announced a £350m refinancing of the football club, arranged by Royal Bank of Scotland and Wachovia.

Hicks and Gillett beat off competition from DIC in early 2007, paying £220m for the Premier League club, all of it in debt. A further £60m of debt was then loaded on to Liverpool FC.

Personaly i think we will never see the conning Bast.ards again. Its gutting me though that when they do go there gonna walk away with a profit.

It wouldn't surprise me if they do turn up Nanny. After all their like the majority of "true fans" only turn up and sing for the big games. I didn't see them at Anfield when we were playing Derby or Wigan, but there they are in the big red scarfs for the Arsenal and United games.

Disgraceful, not another word for it.

Hopefully their last act as owners will be to sign Mascherano before the Inter game. I think they may get an unpleasant surprise if they try to make a "big deal " out of it by signing him on the pitch before the game.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum - to give him his full name - has built the biggest bloodstock empire there's ever been.

And now he is the central figure in one of football's biggest takeovers as the investment arm of Dubai's government nears a buy-out of Liverpool FC.

Wealth: Estimated £7bn. Add in 'family money' and some reports rate him world's 5th richest man

Comparisons have already been made with Chelsea's billionaire Russian owner Roman Abramovich, but the Sheikh is a man apart - one who has helped revolutionise the world of horse racing.

A keen and talented horseman in his native Dubai, he was educated in Britain, at the Sandhurst Military Academy, and is said to have taken a train to see the horse credited with giving him a first taste of racing success.

She was called Hatta, trained by John Dunlop, and won the unremarkable Bevendene Maiden Stakes at Brighton in June 1977, worth a mere £968.

Within a few years the Sheikh, now 57, the ruler of Dubai and number two in the whole United Arab Emirates (UAE), was travelling by chauffeur-driven limo and helicopter to see his dozens of horses in action.

His brothers Sheikhs Maktoum, Hamdan and Ahmed were involved too, and today they own a total of about 3,000 horses worldwide, but mainly in Britain.

Probably the most successful are members of the Godolphin stable, founded by Sheikh Mohammed in 1992, so that he could have a hands-on role in the training.

The idea was, and basically still is, that while Europe shivered during its winter, the horses would benefit from being stabled in the Dubai sunshine before returning for the European summer.

This system had the added advantage for the Sheikh that he could oversee his equine investments while also staying close to the day-to-day running of his homeland.

Godolphin has been generally highly successful, and has played a big part in the commercial development of Dubai as one of the world's most sought-after sporting, holiday and business destinations.
Horses with names like Dubai Millennium (Sheikh Mohammed's favourite) and Dubai Destination have kept the area's name prominent in the minds of the well-heeled that are marketing targets.

And the employment of an exuberant and popular stable jockey in Frankie Dettori has helped raise the profile further.

The Maktoums' investment in racing over the last 30 years or so has spelled nothing short of a revolution.

That £968 purse at Brighton suddenly feels a lifetime away: Sheikh Mohammed and his brothers have pumped millions of their oil, tourism and shipping dollars into the sport.

Their deadly rivals at the Irish-based Coolmore operation apart, they dominate world racing.

Much of the investment has proved a triumph, with Godolphin winning more than 130 top races in 11 different countries.

Though, just as in football, money does not guarantee success.

Famously, Sheikh Mohammed paid a whopping $10.2m (£5m) in 1983 for Snaafi Dancer, a horse that was not only so slow that he never raced, but at stud he proved infertile as well.

Friends speak of a man who is fiercely competitive, highly ambitious - reports suggest he is the world's fifth richest man, but he does not enjoy finishing fifth - and a lover of all sports, so a move into football is an understandable one.

He once wrote: "In the race for excellence, there's no finish line". It could almost read: "The Uefa Cup is not an option".

Of course, Liverpool fans are Merseyside's Reds. But Team Godolphin, because of the colour of their racing silks, are known as the Boys in Blue.

What a lot of fun those that dream up the chants from the terraces - particularly blue Evertonians - are going to have with all this.

Snaffi Dancer. Cost around ten million and great things were expected of him. Ultimately though he proved to have the pace of a carthorse and couldn't score amongst a bevvie of beauties. Now if footballers were horses, which one of ours would be Snaffi Dancer I wonder......

I think it'll be more sensible in here.

For all those pro-Rafa Benitez supporters, here's a new thing you have in your favour. Benitez IS THE ONLY manager in Liverpool's history to win BOTH THE EUROPEAN CUP AND FA CUP. Bob won three europeans (77, 78, 81) but no FA Cup winners medal, one runners up in 77. And Joe Fagan won the European Cup, League and League Cup in 84 but no FA Cup. So there you have it pro-rafa mob. He's the only man in our history to win both trophies.
