Wouldn't cost a great deal and know how to play in England. Jones from Sunderland is another 1 in that brackett. I'd rather take a risky chance on a forward from a lesser Prem side for little money, than a huge buy from abroad who can't cut it. It makes sense.

It doesn't though, Jones cost £6m. They'd probably want something like £9 or £10m. Doyle wouldn't come cheap either.

I'd sooner see a player of real quality come in, rather than taking a punt on someone like that.

We need a top quality first team striker.

I don't think Doyle, Jones or Kitson have enough quality.

In the same position we're competing with the likes of Tevez, Eduardo, and Anelka.

They're few and far between, and we shouldn't be looking to compete with Everton. We need to be looking to the next level.

Fair enough, but 10 million for Doyle, who we know will score, or 10 million for another Kuyt?
6 million for Jones, or 6 million on another Morientes?

I'm saying I'd rather take an average prem forward than a gamble from abroad.

That's in the past though, if you can find a player abroad with the quality and attributes required to succeed in England then they will probably be cheaper than those in England and of better quality. If they're not cheaper and they're clearly top quality, spend that bit extra.

Klose or Doyle?

Diego or Jones?

He scored more with the Manc's than at any other club. He was joint top scorer in the league in 97/98.

He had a better goal ratio for newcastle. Played fewer games and looked more prolific.

No, he was prolific at Newcastle and won f*ck all. He was equally very prolific at United and won the treble.

Doyle or Kuyt?
Jones or Voronin?

That arguement works both ways because there's players who have more quality than what we have, here in England and even in our reserves. Let's not forget it was a lad who came through our reserves which is why we won in 05--Neil Mellor. Without his and Pongolle's goals against Olympiakos, Gerrard's screamer wouldn't of meant a thing. I'd rather have Mellor than Voronin or Kuyt.

Mellor isn't good enough either.

The question isn't whoever plays in the lower leagues and is better than Kuyt or Voronin, we should sign them.

NO, we need TOP QUALITY, and unfortunately you rarely find top quality in the lower leagues.

What's happened in the past has happened, you cannot change that so it's pointless comparing Doyle or Kuyt or whomever else.

Of course you'd rather have Doyle, because we now know Kuyt isn't up to it.

NOW, we need to nail it, no punts on lower league players or players who don't have enough quality. Top quality, nothing else but that.

We have a top quality forward in Torres. We have a 2nd goal-scorer in Crouch and in Babel we have a young up and coming goalscoring forward. Why do we need to waste something in the region of 20-30 million on another, when that money could easily be spent on a position we do need, i.e. left back or left wing. Sell Kuyt and Voronin, we still have Torres, Crouch, Babel and another youngster, either Linfield or Nemeth. It's the fact we have been playing Kuyt so much this season why we are suffering. If we'd played Crouch we would of had a better season, IMO, but that's another arguement for another day. I think should we sell our deadwood forwards, another 30 goal a season man isn't neccessary.

No, we don't necessarily need another Torres but we do need someone who can dovetail with him nicely.  A creative second striker to complement him, in the Daglish mould.  As much as I like Crouch, he's not at that level--he's a third option off the bench for a truly title challenging side.  Babel has yet to convince me and he's not a creative second striker anyway.

Kuyt was the creative striker wasn't he, as was Voronin? I think Crouch and Torres work well, and IF we have the likes of Gerrard and Lucas supporting the front two, any ball that goes up and sticks with Crouch, they cay play the creative passes for Torres.

I'm all for playing Crouchy with Torres for the remainder of the season, mate, but I still think we need a proper second striker to come in to partner Torres this summer.  Crouch has his uses but he doesn't quite fit the bill.  Besides, we need strength in depth in case Crouch or, worse, Torres gets injured.  Kuyt and Voronin need to be cut loose and, as I say, I am still far from convinced by Babel.

I still think Crouch and Torres will do us just fine. Gives us both options if my preferred style of pass and move isn't working. We can long to Crouch's height, or over the top for Torres' pace, I don't see why another 20-30 million should be spent on a gamble. A proven goalscorer in the prermiership, I could see the sense, but another huge sum of money on another possible Kuyt or Morientes, won't please me.

Saying that, if we can pull another Torres out the hat I won't be complaining, and as I've said, you don't know unless you try. Klose or Podolski, I've been a fan of both for a number of years now, and if either were to join, I'd be quietly confident they could do "a job".
