TAKEOVER COMPLETE - H & G Finally Jibbed!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

What worries me most at the moment is that we're walking the Champions League tightrope with this huge loan in place. It's structured at paying back £35m a season and I'd assume that Champions League football is vital for a large percentage of that loan to be paid back each year.

If we fail to qualify for a season, how else are we going to pay it back? It doesn't take a genius to realise that players will be sound to make up for lost cash.

I can very well see another Leeds United scenario.

Oh FFS, we are not Leeds, they were idiots who spent way more money than they could ever hope to recoup, their banks should never have allowed it. We are a much bigger club with far more stable revenue, we will not go down like Leeds. This refinancing is actually not so bad although I would stil prefer to see a takieover by DIC, although them having to sell assets to be able to afford us is a bit worrying.  ???

yeah this could be a Leeds Utd. You think the likes of Moores and Parry would have seen it coming if Doug Ellis had.

The repayments won't be as bad now that the Premier League TV money has increased. It may not be as bad as Leeds and instead mean that no Champions League = no big summer transfer. Although that's not good, it's better than the club folding.

As for forming a new club like the Utd fans did, it won't work. Fair play to them if thye get 3000 fans but they're an amateur club in an amateur league. There are plenty of amateur clubs in the area (well, any area people live in!) that need support so why not go to their games? Having said that, if you do form a club I'd happily play for them  :wwww

Transfers: On the one hand we'd all love G&H to give Rafa £50m every transfer window but to be realistic we do have a lot of players on high wages that aren't top quality. It's perfectly reasonable for them to want players sold before new purchases are made. The only condition I have with that is it should not mean we miss out on a bargain or a world class player. I think there's too much panic on here about the Masch deal. We have first option on him. When it comes to the summer (if we'venot signed him by then) his owners legally have to offer him to us first. The only way we'll lose him is if we don't want him (which Iagree would be stupid) but it means he won't be stolen from under our noses by the mancs or anyone else. For once Parry has a legal fallback to cover his dilly-dallying.

I said it on another thread and I'll repeat it here to see what everyone thinks. I beleive Rafa should have an assistant and I think we should consider John Aldridge. I'd miss his commentary but I think he could do a great job.

Hear hear :nod

I agree, the club is way bigger than any two person and now is the time the club, which we dearly love and adore, needs its fans' support and encouragement.

Even if (hopefully not) G&H run the club into ground and long after the two 'cowboys' has rode into the sunset, guess who is gonna stick around, home or away, standing through the rain and the shine, shouting on top of our voices, glorious in victory and gracious in defeat, but us,  Liverpool fc proud supporters.

We talk of solidarity, support, trust and commitment from the players, administrators and the owners of the club. Well maybe, WE can show our solidarity and support and commitment to the club and see where it takes us. The upward climb of the club fortune maybe so far ahead we can't see it, but maybe the betterment of our Liverpool fc starts with us.

Liverpool fc is great not because of the dollars and the pounds, but because of the people associates with it.

We've talk the talk folks, now its time for us to walk the walk.

It is a very dangerous situation make no mistake. We play Inter in the next round of the Champions league, and to be truthful we will go into the tie as very definate underdogs. Yes we've got a good record in the competition, and yes we've got a tactically very astute manager, but they are top of Serie A and a very serious football team indeed. We are embroiled in a tussle for fourth place in the Premiership which is increasingly looking like a season long battle. Should we fail to finsih fourth there will be grave consequences, and I'm not just talking about the manager losing his job.

Liverpool was well known throughout history as a city which was prepared to stand up for its citizens and what they believed in. My feeling is it may be time to revisit some of that solidarity, that militancy to achieve the ultimate aim of ridding the club of the two parasites. Collectively, Hicks and Gillet need to be convinced that when it comes down to it, it simply isn't worth sticking around.

Very Interesting not over yet guys, this rollercoaster ride was predicted.

Despite speculation that today's developments might signal the end of Dubai International's pursuit of Liverpool Football Club, the ECHO believes the opposite is true and that DIC has not given up hope of buying the club.

Interestingly, George Gillett's name is conspicuous only by its absence on the press release which was issued to the ECHO by London PR firm Financial Dynamics today.

But sources close to the proposed deal have suggested that George Gillett's necessary financial contribution to the deal is still to be received by the Royal Bank of Scotland and American investment back Wachovia who have come up with the proposed £350m loan.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

wishful thinking but maybe gillett is sick of it and is thinking of selling up to DIC.....hmmmmm
at least we would be rid of one of the despicable bas tards....Hicks would sell up then soon enough.
I wonder how aware the level of hatred they have stirred up, I mean there over in america, if they were in England they would but over there I dont know if it bothers them a whole lot....

Shanklys Ghost wrote:AN OPEN LETTER TO ALL LIVERPOOL SUPPORTERS

Yesterday was a day that will go down in infamy in the history of Liverpool Football Club. Yesterday was the day that the stewardship of our beloved club by two most undesirable proprietors was sealed. Yesterday was the day that Liverpool Football Club lost its soul.

I have stood and sat in the Kop for fifty years, through its greatest, its humblest (some on here may not realise we were in the old second division within the living memory of most Liverpool supporters) and most tragic times. I have witnessed all our major triumphs and all our humbling defeats. But now no more. This, my fellow Reds, is the end of the line for me.

Unlike many of those who resisted the takeover of Manchester United by the Glazer family I am not set against Americans per se owning our club. It is these particular Americans that I am opposed to for obvious reasons (it was educational to hear that former Chairman of Aston Villa, Doug Ellis, was prepared to accept a lower offer for his shares from Randy Lerner rather than allow Gillett gain control of the club). And make no mistake HICKS &GILLETT are in this now for the long haul – no matter how many REDS are left sleeping on bare mattresses!

What we are witnessing now is the birth of a commercial sports franchise the hub of whose operations will just happen to be within the City of Liverpool. It will be about as Scouse as any Merseyside branch of Tesco or Sainsbury. And worse still, as we have already become aware, our new and most unwelcome owners will do this in a way so underhanded that it would make MI6 blush.

But I haven’t ventured on to Liverpool fan websites for the first time in my life simply to deliver an ‘I Quit’ ultimatum. I have come here to say that ANY Liverpool fan that  continues to go to matches is propping up the current regime. Boycotting the odd match here or there will not make the individual fan any less of a collaborator. S/he has to be ready to abstain from match attendance for the duration.

Unfortunately, the outlook for this kind of protest, at first sight, is not encouraging. Barely 300 people failed to renew their season tickets at Old Trafford after the Glazers took over. And those who stayed but decided to boycott club merchandise (and hypocritically vandalise the property of Manchester United executives) couldn’t prevent the clubs turnover reaching a record £250m last year (NB the 76% here who stated they would reduce their financial commitment to LFC should H&G remain).

The formation of an opposition football club on the other hand appears slightly more promising. Playing well outside Manchester at Bury’s Gigg Lane ground, FC United of Manchester regularly commands gates in excess of 3,000. More importantly, the dissidents are not only sticking with their new creation – they are growing in number.

There is much we can learn from the experience of Man U fans who opposed the Glazer takeover. I believe that we could make a sustained boycott of Liverpool FC much more effective and that a new club venture could be more successful. I believe this because Liverpool is a more tightly knit community with a more distinct identity with a greater appetite for struggle.

Fellow Reds, we are now at a crossroads. Either we can just talk of contempt for Gillette and Hicks while continuing to aid them in their monstrous scheme by passing through the turnstiles or we can sever our ties with their alien creation and reclaim our heritage by forming a new club:  ‘Liverpool 2008 FC.’

I call upon the moderators, administrators and members of this forum, with links to the official and unofficial Liverpool Supporters Clubs and Associations to lobby your committees and officers to convene within a month an open meeting in a local public venue to discuss the topics that I have just raised: namely the launch of a long term boycott of ALL Liverpool FC fixtures and the establishment of a new association football club, ‘Liverpool 2008 FC.’

I hereby authorise all those who sympathise with the opinions expressed herein to reproduce them for a wider audience.

Much as I understand the disappointment and feeling of betrayal that is conveyed in this post, I must humbly disagree with the suggested course of action.

Liverpool Football Club is in my veins and I cannot find it in my heart to support another club no matter how good the intentions and how noble the cause.

Something needs to be done of course, but this is not the way forward for me personally.

You need start living in the real world mate. Put simply, it's a real threat if we don't start performing on the pitch.

People will say that the likes of Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday are big clubs and it was shocking to see them slide so much, but we're Liverpool - the most successful british club of all time. If we ended up imploding it would just be incredible, considering the size of our fanbase and the potential of the club.

It would really interest me to see how many of the "supporters" would actually stick with us if we did end up like Leeds. They had an average capacity of about 40,000 when O'Leary was there, and now it's something like 25,000.

Ah name calling again, how original and mature

We are a MUCH bigger club than Leeds ever was
We have a global fan base which Leeds never have had and our income is much more diverse than Leeds.
On top of that we don't have complete f*&kwits in charge as Leeds did, whatever you think of Hicks and Gillet they know how to make money and have no intention of :censored: their money away.
If we were to miss out on the champions league next year, which I don't think we will, then it would be very bad but would not mean that we go automatically into doom and gloom and bankruptcy like many on this forum seem to think.

I agree... "Liverpool 2008 FC" won't be "Liverpool FC"... we need to let the owners know that they can't have their own way and they have to answer for their actions to the fans....
