Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I never heard him say that profits from LFC would be used to fund his American clubs. If (and I mean "if") he said that then I'd want him out too.

As for the .75% interest rate cut, that mightn't necessarily reduce the amount of interest that they are charged. The credit crunch is basically banks being afraid to loan each other money in case one of the banks has huge exposure to bad debts. Some of the banks in the Eurozone have increased their interest rates even though the European Central Bank hasn't increased rates since the Summer.

In short (too late!) the .75% cut might not make a difference.

Somebody posted up a link to the video clip a few days ago Niall. The quote is 100% genuine. He says that some fans of one of his baseball clubs are concerned money will be taken out and put into Liverpool. The reverse is the case he says, Liverpool will "throw up" lots of extra cash which if he chooses he could spend on the other ventures (I think one of them is called the rangers), although feck knows what they play. Whatever sport it is, like most American sports they will be the World Champions at it by virtue of the fact that they are the only feckers who play it.

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

sums the bloke up tbh you have to listen to your fans or you aint really running a sports club.

There was a documentary done on Liverpool football club in 1977.  It was filmed during the closing stages of the season when Liverpool were chasing the treble.  There is an interview with John Smith who was our chairman at the time.  Smith comes across as being an honest, intelligent man with a love for Liverpool fottball club, the fans and the city.  The difference between the Smith interview and the Tom Hicks interview, (which I just watched thanks to Ciggy's link) is unbelievable and sums up how much football in general and Liverpool FC has changed.  It is actually sad.

I just hope whoever is in charge at RBS is a Liverpool fan and starts making it difficult for these two c.u.n.t.s.

I just listened to him. In fairness he was addressing the fears that Rangers fans had that he would be taking resources out of them and into LFC.

I think he was just making it clear that LFC would not be a cash drain, the line about "he could even get money out of LFC into Rangers IF HE WANTED TO" sounded like a throwaway line.

He went onto talk about LFC fans being on a different level to American fans so seems to respect the club .

No doubt that he is a business man and won't be ploughing more money in than will get out but so are the Glaziers.

Unless he actually DOES take money out of LFC then I wouldn't give them a hard time.

Yes but c'mon man its not good business to be saying such things. If you own many companies you shouldn't be laying doubts in any of them. That means that you don't say you'll use the hard fought profits from liverpool to fund your projects elsewhere. I'm sure the Rangers or whatever fans would not like to hear that if they do fantasically in their season their funds will be funelled out to liverpool. especially seeing as we pay to help OUR club not rangers.

It was a stupid thing to say, but I think it was a throw away line.

You should be ashamed coming off with stuff like that! :no

Thats a bit harsh number 9.  Niall wasn't saying he doesn't mind if our fans money goes to the USA.  He was simply stating how he interpreted the Hicks interview.

"Throw away" line or not it speaks volumes about his priorities.  He's got three sports teams to run and three sets of supporters to keep happy.*  The one that is most successful generating revenue--and, believe me, that will be Liverpool Football Club by a long chalk--will suffer in order to subsidize the other two teams.  If Hicks applies this approach even once, it will mean money flowing out of the club's coffers to his other ventures.  Now, unless we suddenly find ourselves so flush with cash that we can afford to let some of the cream be skimmed whilst stilling matching the likes of Man U and Chelsea in terms of expenditure that situation's not going to benefit Liverpool Football Club at all.

*And that's just Hicks we're talking about.  Gillett also has another sports franchise to run.

Understandebly the man was trying to quell some doubts over his position but his recent handing of matters have just lead me to believe the guy just ain't that good at business. This latest statement is just proving how poor the man is at handling situations and that he does not have any idea of repercussions.
