G. G. Balagué | 20/01/2008 - AS

The difficulties that George Gillet and Tom Hicks are being found to finance Liverpool have triggered the interest of the royal family of Dubai, through its financial arm, the company Dubai International Capital (DIC), and have submitted an offer of 430 million euros to the owners of Liverpool. Gillet and Hicks must answer in the next 24 hours. Money does not seem to be a big problem for DIC, because it would be a 'small' investment within the fortune that handle over 400,000 million euros in its possession.

Owners Americans have been affected by the fall in the dollar and its total disregard of European football. The rate of expenditure of the club is so high that, to continue this pace, consider that in two years Liverpool would be bankrupt. Nor does it help that both understand the future of Liverpool differently: while Gillet wanted to buy a club for years and understands the sensitivities of a better team and a very special fondness, Hicks would be willing to put all debt to the club, build a new stadium and medium term to sell to the highest bidder. It was Hicks admitted that the talks with Klinsmann with the aim of diverting attention.

Hicks and Gillet must pay to the Royal Bank of Scotland debt over 250 million they have with the bank before the end of February. But the suspicion is that they will not be able to refinance the debt to include the cost of a new stadium and the payment of transfer of footballers.

Ripped from RAWK

btw Why are we not on the list of sites that are going to get to vote in the BIG SURVEY on H&G ? Wheres Leon when you need him?

I hate this b@stard more and more each passing day.

"It's a great economic model. People are worried that I might take money away from the Rangers to go to Liverpool. It's just the reverse. Liverpool is going to pull off lots of extra money that if I choose I can use for the Rangers or Stars."

Tom Hicks on Liverpool FC
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

'Hicks and Gillett can still sign a re-finance package with the Royal Bank of Scotland and American bank Wachovia.

That might give them six months breathing space but could cost them millions and insiders say it would only strengthen DIC's resolve to kick them out.'

This is interesting. The journo's tone suggests he is being got at by DIC -  'It would only strengthen DIC's resolve to kick them out.' To write that isn't news reporting but propaganda - it's painting DIC as saviours, and selfless ones at that. So it seems DIC have recruited the Echo as part of their campaign.

I've spoken to people who have good contacts at DIC. They will not go away now. It's just a case of agreeing the sale price.

I agree with you completly woof but the short time in which this could be sorted impossible mate .
For season ticket holders not to bad asking them to miss the game but youve got supporters travelin miles to see the game and  maybe this is the only chance theve had to actualy get a ticket .

If there was more time this could be done by asking fans not to buy tickets for a certain game and season ticket holders not to turn up.

I agree with you though this would certainly send a message to them that weve had enough . Wouldnt worry about the team though cause i think thed know why we were doing it.

You're right Nanny, it would take a lot more time to organise .And regretably there are perhaps far too many people that would not be prepared to sacrifice their "day out" in order to help make a massive statement to the current owners. Far easier for them to pretend that there's nothing they can do , just wheel out the "I have to support the team" mantra as an excuse for their selfish apathy.

Are we sure this isn't all based on a rumour in the UK press............?   :p
Stu Averill, a wannabe Scouse/Scot. I remember the good times & have faith in them comin back

Beside the Hillsborough Flame, I heard a Koppite mournin, "Why so many taken on that day?" Justice has never been done. But their memory we'll carry on. There'll be Glory Round The Fields Of Anfield Road

I remember last week, on Sunday there was so much talk of a potential takeover then on Monday morning there came a flat denial from H&G. Tomorrow is a bank holiday in America so we won't find out (probably) until Tuesday at the earliest, whether or not this is all true...

Fingers crossed :)

"However Hicks this evening released a statement in which he described the latest report as "a complete fabrication and ... absolutely and categorically untrue".

Hicks added: "I have not received any offer to purchase the club from the DIC or anyone else, much less accepted any such offer. Nor do I have any intention of doing so.

"Whoever is behind this false report, the facts are that I and my family have always been, and remain, fully committed to co-owning the club; that no-one in my family has ever indicated any intention or desire to sell our stake in the club; and that we expect and intend to be co-owners of the club, and to actively and enthusiastically support the club's manager, players and fans for many years to come."

Hicks' statement was released to PA Sport through financial and corporate communications consultancy FD.

Reports had claimed yesterday that DIC were set to make an offer for the complete buy-out of the American duo.

The Dubai-based group were close to their own takeover of the Anfield club 12 months ago before the Reds' then chairman David Moores decided to go with the USA investors.

On Thursday a spokesman for Hicks insisted neither of the owners was considering selling their share and both remained fully committed to the club. "

Well... that didn't take long did it... Bugger...
