Why does everyone think we need a striker? World class teams have height, pace and a real natural goalscore. We have all 3 in a bundance as well as players who can come in for our 3 reconizable strikers and do just as good a job.
Height--Peter Crouch. There isn't many who are bigger then Peter and his 6 foot 7 fram causes defences all sorts of trouble for defenders. So it doesn't look as we need Kuyt who I hear is a target man as well. Peter Crouch has the ability to the score so I would prefer people to stop getting on his back
Speed--Craig Bellamy. The newest striker to the Rafalution has pace in a bundance. He also has a fiery temper and the mentallity of winning at all costs, this alone would good enough but the fact that he can score just makes him a top class Premiership striker.
Ability to finish--Robbie Fowler. There isn't another player in the world who scores as naturally as Robbie. His goals towards the end of last season was a great help towards our push for 2nd and if we had Robbie throughout the whole of last season, I think we would of got 2nd at the very least and pushed Chelsea alot closer. Crouch and Bellamy can also score and take a little pressure of Robbie. Goals from midfielders and a few from the back will also help in our bid to bring the Premiership to Anfield.
Should we lose one these three strikers we have youth cup hero Craig Linfield, who showed his ability to score in our youth cup winning side and he got a goal against Crewe in pre-season for the first team. So if it is necessary we can put him in. Lets not forget Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler (2 of our greatest strikers) came through our youth team so why not put him in. If he isn't ready we have Florent Sinama-Pongolle. When played Flo has looked as if he has a bright future at Liverpool, but is much more a provider than clinical finisher. Should we get to the stage we did a couple of years ago when we didn't have a reconized striker, we can put Garcia or Kewell up front (although I'd rather we didn't because I don't want to see either in a Liverpool shirt again.) We can play Stevie G up front like we did a few last year.
Overall I don't see why a striker should be our main transfer target. We have quality in all forms up front as well as good back up options. But that is the case for all areas of the pitch now not just up front. So if we are to sign anymore signings before the season it will have to be a real big star to dislodge any of our starting 11 or just more squad players or even buying for the future.
