Where is all our transfer money? - Didn't we win the champions league?

Seriously? We haven't spent that much money this summer all! Just a bunch of free transfers and youngsters. The money we have spent has nearly been recuperated through selling such players as Baros, Diouf, Nunez. At the same time we've offloaded a ton of players off our wage structure. Igor Biscan, Bruno Cheyrou Gregory Vignal, Mauricio Pellegrino, Vladimir Smicer, etc.

I thought we would have atleast 25 million to spend freely since we won the Champions League and qualified for it again.

Where is it? We need atleast 3 more quality players to be atleast challenging for the Premiership! :veryangry

Sometimes we need to spend that extra bit for some good quality players. Players for me like Zenden arn't good enough. I thought we'd be going for high profile players but thats far from the case.

I worked this out in another thread the other day.

Basically, based purely on transfers this summer, and taking into account money earned as well as spent, we should have £9.5m of the Champions League revenue left. Whether or not all of the money we earned last year in the CL went straight into the transfer kitty is unclear, however.

Don't forget that Reina, Crouch and Sissoko cost approx £18m between them.

i can't believe so many people belive the world of football finance and transfers is so easy. the number of shouts along the lines of "we must have at least £25 million - lets go out and buy raul/gallas/joaquin/van bommel etc etc" are plain ridiculous.

firstly we made the clubs biggest ever debt last season thanks to the pay off to houllier after his disastrous spenidng spree, so we have to beging to cover that. secondly we still have plans to build a bigger stadium and that'll cost a few bob. thirdly, you don't just 'go and get' a player, they have to actually want to come and with a number of other people (agents, chairmen, managers) have to agree the terms. fourthly, why should we go and spend just for the sake of it? there's plenty of quality team players out there for fractions of the cost of the 'superstars', who better than benitez to bring them to their best at liverpool?

I disagree with the second, third and fourth reasons. We are no closer to building a stadium than we were 2 years ago. The cost is actually spiralling out of control the more we wait. Players obvioulsy would love to come to LFC but for some reason no one of real quality has this summer. Agents, chairmen and managers go hand in hand with every transfer so that has no bearing on this topic.  Finally, you talk about not signing a player just for the sake of it. Agreed! But we still need to sign players to make a successful team. I'm sorry but our transfer activity this summer has been absloutely :censored:! Where are the players that cost a fraction of what 'superstars' cost that Benetiz has brought in this summer? We paid too much for Crouch. Baros was and is better. Reina and Sissoko are the only good players we got. We probably should have kept Biscan, Smicer, and Diouf for a seaon since we have no depth at all in this squad. Cisse is our only hope up front. If Carragher or Sami get injured then we are :censored:!

I would also like to know?..to know how is it that a team who have won fukk all and are 2nd from the bottom of the prem can find £25 million (in total) for two players can out bid the " champions of Europe"! what the fukk is going on atLFC? come moores/parry give us an answer to where all the "monies" have gone? cos' we haven't exactly broken any transfer records this pre- season have we? Where are all these big name signings we were told we would be getting?,..erm..let me think now oh yes..there's crouch £7 mill  Mmm..then there was the (are you smicer in disguise clone) Zenden?. ( on a free)..Mmm.. and tell me again how much did we make from winning the CL?..Mmm something dont add up here?. :no  :(

I believe there is still money there for a defender and a right winger. he just hasnt found the player(s) yet.

Also, LFC are 20m in debt. any monies made, some of it surely goes towards paying some of that off.
Plus a new stadium costing millions is due.

Plus if anyone remembers we offered 11.75 million euros for milito cant remember if that was before or after we bought crouch so there is obviously the money there to be spent it just has to go in the right place. In Rafa we have one of the most prudent managers going whos eye for talent & a bargain is second to none. In Rafa we must trust

Fu.ck sake lads, you only have to look at Leeds and be thankful we're not shelling out 16mil on the likes of Owen.  Down the tubes like leeds is exactly where Newcastle are headed.  They're not in Europe and even with Owen they won't qualify for europe ths year either, not with the most tactically inept manager in the premiership at the helm.  Newcastle will be in financial trouble in a couple of years, and not just because of the Owen deal, they've spent a hell of a lot over the last few years with little success.

A couple of dodgy performances and Owen going to Newcastle and suddenly people start crying.  For fu.ck sake wise up.  We won the champions league last year, we've improved the squad and we'll be better in the league this time around.

As for the available transfer money, we have spent a lot ourselves over the last few years, and although we recouped some of it with the champions league win, I'm glad we haven't overspent this year.

Rafa built a winning team with Valencia with little cash.  He'll do the same with us but it'll take longer because the Liverpool team he inherited was greatly inferior to the valencia team he inherited.

I'm skeptical. Benetiz is no doubt a great manager, the best in the Premiership. But you have to look at our signings this summer. Crouch is unproven and may not even be as good as Baros. Reina and Sissoko appear to be the only decent signings we've made even though Sissoko still has a lot to learn. Our defence is :censored: excluding Carragher and the ageing Sami who's probably not as good as he was last year. No depth. Midfield is decent with Gerrard and Alonso. Hamann is also quality but doesn't play. Sissoko still learning. The rest is :censored:. Biscan and Smicer looked better than Zenden looks. Potter is not good enough and I think we still have Diao on the books. Apart from that, who else? No depth. If one of our decent midfielders gets injured we're screwed. Morientes isn't cutting it and I'm very skeptical if he ever will. Crouch, we all know about. Cisse? Could be fantastic but will he definitely be? Not on the right that's for sure. Again no depth. Mellor isn't good enough and Pongolle will probably never be better than our average sub.

We have no proven premiership goalscorer!

That's where I disagree with a lot of people on this forum, I'm not saying we have a proven premiership scorer that'll get 20 a season, but do we really need one??

Chelsea didn't have one last season.  In fact, out of the top 5 clubs in the prem last season, did anyone apart from Henry get over 20 goals?  I'm not sure they did, definitely not in the prem anyway.

I think as the season goes on, scoring goals won't be a problem for us.  We have midfielders who can share that burden with the strikers.  I also think our defence is still good enough, but lacks depth.  We badly need cover for Sami, we can't expect him to play 50+ games this season.
