With the transfer money - Who do we get?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

What also seems to make me angry is that evrytime we begin to make um progress in our squad somthing always happens.

For example last season i was very optimistic with the prospect of a pacy strike force of owen n cisse with the likes of stevie (who confirmed his future) puttin in the throw balls. But then owen left n it was like we took a step backwards.

Although we did win the champions league :p. I would love to c it happen again or even the league but i jus cnt c it happening. With stevie i honestly thought we could get into the top 3 if not top 2.

This season has been the same. The prospect of stevie n alonso partnering up with cisse and fully fit morientes we had the foundations of a very strong team. But now with lost the strongest link and scouser balls.

I feel we our always taken two steps back before taken one foward.

We coped without owen, we coped without fowler and mcmanamen, we even coped without Rush but will we b able to cope without Gerrard. I hope so.

Hopefully we will hav a better teamspirt without SG, hopefully we can go and do somthing impossible like the blueshits.

i guess only time will tell. one things for sure in rafa we trust.

I would be absolutely amazed if Rafa didn't know all along that Gerrard wasn't going to sign. Jeez even I could work it out from the sofa "It's looking good now" isn't and never has been "yes I'm going to sign". Given this, the replacements will already be lined up. I use the plural deliberately because we will have lost Gerrard and Biscan, leaving only Hamann and Alonso as out and out central midfielders.
I'd go for a top quality, proven replacement and think it will be Baraja. I'd also go for an englishman who I think will be a superb player in another couple of years, probably will replace Gerrard eventually for England. Jermaine Jenas is the fella. That said, I think Rafa will buy Hargreaves and Baraja.
FWIW I think we will be a better team for it.

Essien is excellent, but will be ridiculously expensive (wont see much change from £30million), Ballack would be good as he's keen to move on according to recent stories. I'd still go for Julio Baptista. Arsenal have had a £10million bid turned down, but I think that a £15-17million bid would bag him. He's been an unsung hero for a couple of years now; he has Brazilian flair, but with a build that could easily take the rigours of the Prem and he plays in a floating midfield role a la Gerrard. The rest of the money could continue to bolster the squad. Exciting times ahead.

People keep saying "dont buy old", "isnt ballack almost 30", "buy for the future" and while i agree strongly with building for the future i disagree that ballack or similar could be considered too "old" at 28. Our squad is a young squad and one thing a backbone needs is a level of experience. look how gary mcallister came in and settled the houllier ship back in 2001 at the age of 36. experience is one of the most important attributes in central midfield.

michael ballack fits the bill for me...

some stats for the doubters:

Season                           Club             Matches       Goals
2004/2005           FC Bayern München       27             13
2003/2004           FC Bayern München       28              7
2002/2003           FC Bayern München       26             10
2001/2002           Bayer 04 Leverkusen      29             17
2000/2001           Bayer 04 Leverkusen      27              7

i also think we cant keep buying spanish, it'll completely upset the balance of an english club (look at barca when they had 7/8 dutch players only a few seasons ago).

I hope we sign a highly rated, proven premiership player, not necessarily english but someone to replace the drive we've lost with SG's departure - SWP or a strong centre back. (perhaps Gallas if chelski win the race for SG)

Somebody (i think dawson) mentioned that rafa will have a plan B in operation since we've known about stevies possible departure for so long now....i like that thought.

gives me hope at the end of a long [black] day

maybe so like, but i definately think that to have a majority of players from any single foreign nation is gonna be damaging to how the club is run

this is one fast movin forum just came back from the loo and yous have filled up 4 pages...

anyway it seems like i'm the only one worried about what rafa will do with the money...

lets see the players he has brought it

Nunez - why,why,why :(

Luis Garcia - some may rate him but i think his too individual and a glorier plus he takes too many shots from far out (but i must admit that has helped throughout the season (especially Juve) ) but his still gotta lot to prove...

whats the name of that huge and slow piece of :censored: we got on a free who did worse than biscan (thats right biscan) in defence i forgor his name (how good was he if i've already forgoten him :p

But he did buy alonso who is an excellent player

so will rafa buy us another alonso or another nunez ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

oh and buy the way some are saying dont let gerrard go for less than 40mil
why dont we sell him for 45.5mil and break the world transfer record
which i believe is Zidane juve to real for 45mil (correct me if i'm wrong)...

p.s. Leonmc i've been drinkin, smokin, sniffin all the wrong things, back out of prison now so i'm clean (really i am)...

:)

Nah man, uve got it wrong (i hope) ... rafa will be good to us.

Nunez only came as part of the owen to Real deal (he salvaged what he could) - he is sh*t tho.
Pellegrino, who uve forgotten, was too old for the pace of some of the prems top strikers, and has been released by the club back to spain.
